Unable to transfer ForestDns/DomainDNS
So I setup a testing environment so I can test/break things. I think my issue is that something is screwed up with the Partitions on the windows 2003 server. The forest and domain partitions look odd, are they? Mine looks kind of like this... http://1ask2.com/Wndows2012/Upgrade/migration09.jpg On Tue, Jun 28, 2016 at 8:21 AM, Jason Waters <jason at geeknocity.com> wrote: > I still

lol...sorry! - The windows domain controller does run a DNS server - I joined the samba DC's to the windows DC. I used the normal command, but did get an error about the forest and domain dns. The error is: descriptor_sd_propagation_recursive: DC=DomainDnsZones,DC=fisherthompson,DC=local not found under DC=fisherthompson,DC=local descriptor_sd_propagation_recursive:

Additional Zones with Samba4 DNS
Hi, we plan to migrate to Samba4 from Samba3 and also from Bind9 to Samba4 DNS. One question is open, everything else works really great. We need multiple domains for virtual hosts in our development enviroment. Example: samba.local as samba domain, additional anotherdomain.local for hosting. How can we add those zones in Samba via command line tools. The reverse zone for our IP

Unable to transfer ForestDns/DomainDNS
I still feel like there is something I can do to get the 2003 server to have what I need to do a fsmo transfer instead of a seize. Doesn't that check box say to store it inside AD? http://i.imgur.com/UolzBwP.png http://i.imgur.com/tHTmB5c.png On Tue, Jun 28, 2016 at 8:09 AM, Jason Waters <jason at geeknocity.com> wrote: > I still feel like there is something I can do to get the

The built in DNS, sorry if that sounded like it was special! So do I just seize it then? And do I do that before or after dcpromo? Thanks for the help. Unable to transfer ForestDns/DomainDNS
So I continue to struggle getting this moved away from windows 2003 to samba. I've been working in VM's to test before doing it on production. I think something is just wrong/broken with my windows 2003 AD. These are a couple of the things I have tried. - Going from Windows 2003 to Windows 2008 to Samba - Seizing the roles and then joining another samba domain controller. But I'm

Can't join Samba as a DC to an existing Domain
can you provide more info. like: OS running? samba version? Samba package or from source? samba AD DC version and OS? If there is and smb.conf when you join, remove it or rename it and try joining again. error with joining new DC to domain
may I extend the issue with some strange behaviour? Look here: installing the sernet 4.7 as mentioned above I can´t join the domain in a regular way. ONLY it works when I asked BOTH of the working DCs with 4.9.3 before I try without explicit naming of a server... ^^ Follow me here: [root at dc-02 etc]# samba-tool domain join obel.lan DC -U"OBEL\administrator" --realm=obel.lan

“Failed to find a writeable DC for domain” joining to win2k3 AD DC
I have a CentOS 6.4 box with SerNet's Samba 4.0.8 installed and no smb.conf file yet, as it should be. I want it to become an AD DC in my existing Windows domain, replicating from the existing Windows Server 2003 box. I have SELinux enabled and want it to stay that way. I'm getting this error trying to run samba-tool: $ sudo samba-tool domain join currentwindowsadserver.mydomain.lan
