New rwiki page for "large scale data"
Dear list, There is a new rwiki (http://rwiki.sciviews.org) section for 'large scale data' at http://rwiki.sciviews.org/doku.php?id=large_scale_data. This is a massive topic of interest to many. I could use some help filling in the content so that this can develop into a powerful resource for the r-community. I hope you like it, and I hope you are willing to help make it better.

Title case in DESCRIPTION for package where a word is a function namei
How about allowing underscore? (I believe WRE is silent on this, and I have not tried submitting a package with underscore in the title.) As I pointed out in my OP, _optim()_ works. And we have the advantage that we can distinguish package from function. The purpose of consistent editing is surely to provide the affordances that save us from needing extra documentation, as per Donald Norman's

Importar datos Statgraphics.
Hola, A lo mejor la solución pasa por ver si Statgraphics puede exportar su fichero a otro formato de cualquiera de los que R sí que puede leer. No sé si además del fichero, tienes acceso a Statgraphics.... Using multicores in R
Hi, I have an R script which is time consuming because it has two nested loops in it of at least 5000 iterations each, I have tried to use the multicore package but id doesn't seem to improve the elapsed time of the script(a shorter script for example) and I can't use the mcapply because of technical reasons. I was wondering how can I make my script use more cores and memory because I am

R Wiki - official launch!
Hello all, We are pleased to announce the official launch of the R Wiki at http://wiki.r-project.org. Although there are already many sources of R documentation, this R Wiki is a complementary tool, in the sense that "users become R documentation authors", a little bit like "users become developers" for R code.

Title case in DESCRIPTION for package where a word is a function name
Hendrik pointed out it was the parentheses that gave the complaint. Single quotes and no parentheses seem to satisfy R CMD check. Perhaps that needs to be in the WRE. However, I have for some time used the parentheses to distinguish functions from packages. optim() is a function, optimx a package. Is this something CRAN should be thinking about? I would argue greater benefit to users than title

cannot install.packages("data.table")
Hello, I am new at R. I am trying to see if R can work for me. I need to do database like lookup (select * from table where name=='toto') and work with matrix (transpose, add columns, remove rows, etc). It seems that the data.table package can help. http://rwiki.sciviews.org/doku.php?id=packages:cran:data.table I installed R and ... > install.packages("data.table") Warning
