Intel NUC? Any experience
Folks The price point of Intel's NUC unit makes it attractive to use as a server that doesn't have significant computational load. In my environment, a USB connected hard-drive could provide all the storage needed. I wonder if anyone has had experience with it, and can answer: 1) Does Centos6 and/or Centos7 install from a USB connected optical drive? or a USB flash drive? I'd

Experiences with RHN Satellite?
This is slightly off topic, and may just be tossing red meat to y''all, but here goes: My boss has RedHat coming in on Tuesday to give a spiel on RHN Satellite. I''m dubious, as it seems mostly like a web UI wrapped around a Yum repository system and a half-baked configuration management system. I''m of the opinion that our time and money would be better spent getting

Centos7 Net install on HP A1710N fails
Folks Just for laughs, I took an older 64-bit machine, HP Pavillion A1710N, and tried a net-install of Centos7. The installer complained that there was no network devices available. I then tried a Centos6 Netinstall disk, and it found the controller and worked fine. What should I do? I'd love to get C7 installed on it. David

YumRepo Warning: not using ftp, http[s], or file for repos, skipping - 5 is not a valid release or hasnt been released yet
Hi all Does anyone know what causes this error? I have setup a local CentOS repository, with mrepo, and can succesfully use it for updates & installation of just about anything. Yet, this error comes up. Here's my /etc/yum.conf: # PUT YOUR REPOS HERE OR IN separate files named file.repo # in /etc/yum.repos.d [base-local] name=CentOS-$releasever - Base #mirrorlist=

Kickstart ksdevice question
This should be easy to answer (I hope).? We routinely kickstart boxes to use for managing our customers RADIUS/DHCP configurations (along with other things).? We've had a C7 kickstart in place since I built one in May and are finally starting to roll it out for new installations.? But, I'm curious as to what ksdevice= actually does. With the C6 we routinely used ksdevice=eth0 since we

If it makes a difference, I am running

How to rebuild the Centos 6.4 iso images with the same contents as officially released iso images ?
I have read many Centos webpages and mail archives but found only raw descriptions of the build process. My first aim is to rebuild CentOS-6.4-x86_64-LiveCD.iso using the Centos repositories and preferably without recompiling the SRPMs, just to verify the build process. My final aim is to create a Centos LiveOS contain the packages in CentOS-6.4-x86_64-minimal.iso plus some network configuration

Is it okay?
Hi, I have downloaded the following version: CentOS-5.5-i386-LiveCD-Release2.iso from the mirror: http://ftp.iitm.ac.in/centos/5.5/isos/i386/ What I want to ask is that 'Release2' is the complete OS and after installation we can use 'yum update'. So at first, is it enough (as I am not going to download the complete set of 7 CDs)? -- Regards, Parshwa Murdia Making the simple

Use EPEL without redirection ?
Hi, Is there any way to deactivate the redirection to a mirror when using the third-party EPEL repository ? Our network uses a transparent HTTP/HTTPS proxy with a local AC. We can create exceptions for sites like centos.org or download.fedoraproject.org, but whenever we want to install a package from EPEL, the mirror redirection causes an error due to redirection. Any suggestions ? Niki --

Gnome weather applet stranded
The Gnome weather report applet has ceased working on CentOS5/6. http://weather.noaa.gov/ says "This service is no longer available". Are there any good alternatives? I liked the applet as it allowed the use of a custom radar map. As I just discovered, the weather functionality of the CentOS6 Gnome clock applet was using the same service.

question about network repositories
Hi I'm thinking about setting up a local / LAN respository for my CentOS, and probably other (Fedora Core) disto's, but have never done it before, so here's some questions: If I setup a repository, can it hold different distro's / architectures & versions? Say for example, CentOS 4 (i386 & x64), CentOS 5.0 & 5.1 (i386 & x64) - will each one have it's own

screensaver in C7
I'm at the stage of poking at a C7 install in Vbox, and am struggling to figure out how to control the screensaver. there doesn't seem to be a gnome screensaver package (like there was in gnome2), and I can't find any installed packages that control it. gconf-editor doesn't have anything that looks promising... how does one control the screensaver in Gnome 3? thanks! -- ----
