Hello everyone, I need to know which kind of psychoacoustic model is used in vorbis to encode signal. Thanks for answers __________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? New Yahoo! Vorbis psychoacoustic model
Hello, I'd like to know there is any place (web, document...) where I can see which the vorbis' psychoacoustic model is, at least for the reference encoder (how it works, algorithms, filter banks, scalefactors, etc., or if it doesn't use any of this things at all...), or if the only way of looking at it is within the psy.c. I've been looking for it in the Vorbis' site and in

PEAQ(CELT)
Hello, ? I don?t know whether this is the right place to discuss such a question here. I?m sorry. ? I want to evaluate the CELT codec using a known MATLAB implementation of the PEAQ software. If anyone has used this test program he could see that one of the input parameters (3rd one) shifts the frames for both the reference and the under test audio signals. Another parameter (4th one) marks the

Psychoacoustic model
We've implemented a vorbis decoder based on Tremor and as part of the documentation we're also writing about psycho acoustic models and encoding. We're quite up to date with the decoding process and psycho acoustics in general but unfortunately not on the psycho acoustic encoding used in Vorbis. We have a few questions that would we would be very thankful to have answer to: Which

Migrating from NT4 to Samba - correct strategy
Hi folks, I have 2 domains: LX01 (WinNT) e LX04 (Samba) and I want consolidate them into one domain LX01. All the stations is looking for LX01. All users are equal on both servers. Can I just turn the WinNT off and rename the Samba server to LX01 ? Is there any problem ? Thanks in advance. Josir

How floor1 modifications may affect final (de)coded samples?
Hello, I've been "playing" a little with the floor1 encoding, and my game has posed me a question. I've been modifying (just curiosity) manually, and randomly (not too great modifications), the quantized [floor1_Y] values, just before coding them with the codebooks. As, if I'm not wrong, the [floor1_Y] obtained are then removed to get the residue vectors for each channel, I

encoder block diagram
I've made a block diagram of the encoder because I tried to find out, how it works http://stoffke.freeshell.65535.net/ogg/block.html Although there are specifiation docs, that give very detailed information about single aspects of the encoding (or decoding) , I'm missing documenations that give a more general overview, about how the encoder works. (Vorbis Illuminated seems a bit

just an idea about quality evaluation
Hello I had an idea about judging the quality of ogg vorbis (or any other lossy codec) I took a wave-file and encoded it to ogg. Then decoded ogg to wav and inverted it's phase. When mixing the original wav with the phase-inverted decoded ogg-file, any identic parts of compressed and uncompressed audio should be eliminated. Of course there's always a "rest" of sound because

About NAS versus Samba
Hi there, Has anyone tried to configure a NAS server to authenticate users using a Samba PDC, or even a Samba4 DC (AD-compatible) or an IPA server? I'm evaluating replacing some Linux file server for a NAS product, but all them make me nervous when the vendor talks about "Active Directory support" and nothing else. In theory, many NASes are Linux boxes running samba, so there

Lossy Audio Compression Research
Hello everyone, I'm a student at the Universtiy of Delaware, and will be soon starting some research on the effects of lossy audio compression on speech sounds. I will be preforming test with both mp3 and vorbis. First of all, if I use the '--ogg' switch to lame, does lame use GPSYCHO to encode the wave, or some other psychoacoustic model (perhaps one designed for

end-user mode for a moment (side-by-side tests)
Smack my curiosity, but I encoded some songs in Vorbis mode 2 and tried to be able to distinguish the difference between that and the uncompressed WAVs. (*smacks self*) but here's what I noted: It's actually kind of hard to tell the difference :) (and I consider myself to have a decent set of ears, though not anywhere near the best) I got my accuracy to about 90%, but I couldn't

sample, windows & vbr
Hi, I'm a newbie to audio compression. And I have several question about ogg. 1. How many bits a vorbis sample take ? does the sample size 16 bits ? like the mp3 ? CMIIW 2. How do a decoder recognize how many sample it takes in a second ? does it related with the code books ? 4. Does vorbis use VBR ? 3. What is function of the Windows ? and what is the output of the windows ? Thanks

Encoding multiple tiny audio files
Hi all, I want to make a static database containing hundreds of thousands of very short audio files, each having not more than 100 milliseconds. These are made by splitting larger audio files into tiny pieces. I encode all the little files separately, but do not store 3 vorbis header packets, which are the same for all the files. I do not use ogg stream, only store plain vorbis packets.

Psycho Acoustic models i Speech Coding
Hi, Does anyone have an idea about the possibility to apply psychoacoustic models as the ones in mp3 or AAC to a CELP coder? Vorbis Block Diagram
Hi, I have looked through the documentation available from the downloads and the web and haven't yet come across a block diagram which shows exactly how the process of going from a .wav file to a .ogg file works. I suspect it is the same as the mp3 process (with a different psychoacoustic model). I found this document:

Psycho Acoustic models i Speech Coding
(This is almost out of topic but anyway...) It is surprising how little research effort have been put into psy-acou models for CELP. The basic problem lies in that it is not easy to alter the LP model without distroying the minimum-phase property (ie. the stability of the predictor). That leaves us with psy-acou modelling of the noise-part only. However, my own research is in constrained

Applying dynamic compression to live audio
Hi: I want to stream audio from my soundcard, but I'd like to apply some dynamic compression to it first (ala winamp's audiostocker plus shoutmuxer thingy). I heard rumours of compression in liveice, but Iv'e been told that this only works when it plays from prerecorded MP3, not the live input. I'd like to do this with darkice, but can't see how it could be done. I guess
