File update detection
Hello, I run Samba 4.0.0-168.fc18.rc5.x86_64 on my Linux box. I use an editor on my Windows box to edit files on one of the Samba shares and that editor has a file update detection mechanism, polling every x seconds for changes to file modification timestamp. And around every 12 to 14 seconds it pops up the files have been changed while they aren't. Any idea what may cause this? Kind

Can't get samba to start.
Hey, I'm having problems with samba. It has never worked properly on my server since I've had it installed.. Its for a home server, running xbox-Linux Fedora Core 6. I've just uninstalled every trace of the old samba, and started a fresh. With the latest samba sources I found on the website. The nmbd starts fine, but smbd never starts, and in the kernel log, I get the following

SELinux issue
Hey all... not exactly an SELinux veteran, but am trying to work through some issues. Specifically, setting up a simple Samba configuration on a CentOS 5 machine. Determined I needed to do setsebool -P samba_enable_home_dirs 1 In order to get access to home directory shares working correctly. Fine; this is documented in samba_selinux(8). However, I still see the following in my

Installation and Setup of Samba4 AD DC on CentOS6
I have setup a Samba4 server and would like to report my experiences in the hope that it may be helpful to others. I basically followed the official Samba4 HowTo, which is very good. Based on what I have seen, this is the only document I would recommend people to follow. I will try not to repeat things that are covered in the HowTo, but rather focus on what I did differently or additionally,

Samba can't access dir - SELinux problem?
Hello, I was using CentOS 5.5 as a "playground" VM at my WinXP notebook and now I'm migrating to a new CentOS 5.6 install and everything has worked well - except samba. I have this very permissive config to export my ~/src dir: # cat /etc/samba/smb.conf [global] guest ok = yes guest account = afarber security = share hosts allow = 172.16.6. 127.0.0.1 [src]

Samba, SELinux and system created directories
Does anybody know what 'setsebool -P samba_export_all_rw on' is actually supposed to do? I'm trying to share /tmp via samba and am seeing the same results with samba_export_all_rw set to on or off. Maybe I'm misunderstanding what this is intended to do but from windows I cannot see files in /tmp with 'tmp_t' security context (as shown by ls -lZ /tmp). I do see those

An error message I don't recognize
I have recently been told I will have to maintain some CentOS servers at work. Since I have only been using Slackware for the last 16 years, I decided to install CentOS on one of my servers at home to get an idea of the differences. I installed CentOS 5.4 from CD with no problems, did a yum update, set up a couple of samba shares and started to copy over some files from one of my other

smbd write failure, kernel
Hello! I have samba 3.0.23c-2 installed on Fedora Core 7. Smbd and nmbd daemons start automotically with computer via commands in rc.local: smbd -D nmbd -D But there is one problem. When smbd starts via rc.local, it can't write files to the disk. And when I start it myself, everything is fine. smbd.log: [2007/05/21 09:49:06, 0] lib/util_sock.c:write_data(562) write_data: write failure

NT domain login no longer works after distro upgrade (samba 4.2.12 -> 4.3.11, 4.4.5)
Workstation  is member of NT domain, DC is samba 3.6.12. Was running Fedora 22 (samba 4.2.12), domain logins were working fine. Upgraded to Fedora 23 (samba 4.3.11) and domain logins no longer work: "Domain Controller unreachable, using cached credentials instead." Can connect to shares on the DC (e.g., with smbclient) without problem. Upgraded to samba 4.4.5 (from Fedora 24), issue

SELinux and SETroubleshootd woes in CR
I'm setting up a dedicated database server, and since this will be a central service to my various web servers I wanted it to be as secure as possible...so I am leaving SELinux enabled. However I'm having trouble getting Apache to use mod_auth_pam. I also now can't get setroubleshootd working to send me notifications of the denials and provide tips to solve the problem. The Apache
