Attempted to rename a folder, failed with: CANNOT Renaming not supported across conflicting directory permissions I don't understand why this should happen. o I was renaming within a directory - the attempt was to rename "Domain Names &- SSL Certificates" to "Domain Names". login scripts not being run at session startup
List, I have a weird problem on a 3.0.20 PDC. My users can log on correctly (user credentials is in LDAP) to the domain but the login.bat file is not always run. For some people, it is always run. For other people, it is never run. For a final group, sometimes it runs, sometimes it doesn't. There aren't any real differences in the LDAP entry for the account. The relevant line in

joined to ads, mapped permissions
I have joined samba to a 2003 active directory server. If a samba shared dir is owned by root, how does active directory manage it? more specifically, how are the permissions mapped? administrator to root? i have seen reference to a parameter in smb.conf to "username map", but i don't see reference to it in either of the John Terpstra Samba books so that can't be the bridge

Folder Permissions
Hi, I have Samba up and running as well as winbind. I have ran some tests to confirm that yes indeed winbind is able to query the Windows NT 4.0 PDC for user/group/password information. However I am having difficulty understanding how to set shares up in samba so that I can apply permissions to them using my Windows user information rather than creating each user on samba with the same password

inherit permisssions in share/dir/subdir
Dear samba users, inherit permissions & g+s works great as a single share for different groups of users. However I've found a limitation/bug/shortcoming..... I can't write as a specific group into a sub-sub-directory of a share. I'll step through my working share.... I've got a share with inherit permissions = yes and g+s on directories. I've then got a folder called

HOWTO Create a PDF Writer in samba
Hi all, Thought I'd post this to the list as I found a better way of doing it. Nice to have for posterity. Please include it in the source of samba if you wish - I hereby license it under GPL 1. install ghostscript (most distributions include it anyway) 2. put the following in the file /usr/sbin/pdfprint and make it executable by whatever your guest user for samba is : #!/bin/bash

files over 2 GB in size?
Is there a way in samba to create files greater then 2GB in size? I'm tarring some stuff to a samba share (from one linux server to another, share mounted using smbmount) and I get an error "File size limit exceeded" and the size of the file is 2147483647 bytes. Is there anyway to create files larger then 2GB on a samba mounted share? If so, how?

Samba 4.1 DC Account Operators permissions problem
There appears to be a bug in the samba 4.1 DC builtin group Account Operators permisssions. By definition, members of the Account Operators group can add, edit, and delete normal user accounts in the domain, except those for domain user accounts who are members of domain Account Operators, Administrators, Backup Operators, Print Operators Server Operators, and Domain Admins. This account is very

Changing file permissions from the command line
Hi, I run Samba 2.2.3a (Solaris 7) in domain authentication mode in a Windows 2000 domain. I would like to be able to script file permissions changes from the Windows side using a command line utility, e.g. cacls, however I have only been successful in changing the UNIX world permisssions, not owner and group. A summary follows. Has anyone come across a solution for this? Thanks, Fintan ---

Problems connecting to APC/Smart-UPS 3000 RM
Hi all, I have an APC/Smart-UPS 3000 RM that I am trying to connect to nut via the usb port. I have nut running just fine on several other machines using APC ups's via the serial ports but this usb thing is making me crazy. If I do a "/sbin/newhidups -u root -D -a PS1" it recgonizes the ups and dumps a bunch of information like below: (porky pts12) # /sbin/newhidups -u root -D -D
