Request - adding recycled "lwd" parameter to polygon
Hello dear members of R-help and R-core mailing list,
I am not sure if this request is a "ticket" that should be filled somewhere
outside the mailing list. If so, I apologize for not doing and would like
to know where I should have filled it.
And to the subject matter:
I would like to use a command like this:
plot(c(1,8), 1:2, type="n")
polygon(1:7, c(2,1,2,NA,2,1,2),

help with 3-D plot of kernel density estimates
Hi,
I guess I have a naive question. I use kde2d function in a standard way to
estimate kernel densities of x and y (x and y are vectors) and plot them
using image().
f1=kde2d(x,y)
image(f1)
But what if I want to see kernel estimates of three variables, x, y and z (a
vector) plotted together ? Something in which x<->y is plotted and colored
according to the corresponding value of z ?

seq.Date requires by
Hi,
What is the reason for seq.Date to require the 'by' argument and not to
default it to 1 in the example below?

density plot - beginner's question
Hi,
I am trying to plot densities given on a two dimensional grid. My
data is in the an external file, and is arranged in three columns:
x, y, density
how may i get a plot of this? i would like to get (1) a three
dimensional plot and (2) a color coded two dimensional plot.
I have tried using
image(x, y, density)
but i am asked to put the data in ascending order. i am not sure
how i may

2d Joint Density Plot
Hi all,
I'm fairly new to R, so I'm still trying to feel out what is available to
me. I would like to be able to plot joint density in a two dimensional plot
where density is indicated by color or darkness gradients, like a 2d color
coded topographic map. Ideally, the output would be something I could then
plot other points or lines on.
Currently, I'm calculating joint density with

plot smooth density estimates for bivariate data
Hi, there.
Suppose I have a bivarariate data matrix y1 and y2. I want to plot a 3-D
picture of the estimated density f(y1, y2) against y1 and y2? How can I do
that? Do I use persp() or density()?
Thanks for your help.

R-beta: help with R simulation

I am a complete novice R programmer. (Though I know C quite well)
I am trying to write some R code to do the following simulation.
There is a 2-frame "movie" of noise and signal dots. the noise
dots have random positions in each frame. The signal dots are
placed randomly in frame 1,

Plotting of regsubsets adjr2 values not correct
Hi,
I want to make model selection with regsubsets. My code is:
a<-regsubsets(Gesamt ~ CommunistSocialist + CountrySize + GNI + Lifeexp +
Schoolyears + ExpMilitary + Mortality +
PopPoverty + PopTotal + ExpEdu + ExpHealth, data=olympiadaten, nbest=2)
summary(a)
plot(a,scale="adjr2")
(output attached)
The problem is now, that I want to fit the best model again "manually"

Plot bivariate density with densities margins
Dear R users,
I would like to plot the bivariate density surface with its marginal
densities on the sides of the 3D box, just like in the picture I attach. I
tried to found information about how to do it but did not find anything.
Does anyone know how to do it?
Thanks in advance,
Eduardo.

Plotting a functional time series
Hello,
I'm willing to plot a sequence of densities on a 3d graph, something like
-----------------------------------------------------------------
x <- sapply(1:10, function(i)rnorm(1000))
f <- sapply(1:10, function(i)density(x[,i], from=-5,to=5)$y)
grid <- density(x[,1], from=-5,to=5)$x
win.graph()
persp(grid1, 1:10, f,theta=-50, phi=30, d=2)

add lowess predicted line to scatter plot
Hi,
I have a scatter plot of the variables GNI and Lifeexp (Gross National
Income and Life Expectancy, both metric). So I plotted them and I want to
add a regression line and a lowess line. I use lowess and not loess because
I have missing values. My code:
plot(GNI,Lifeexp)
abline(lm(Lifeexp~GNI), col="red")
y.loess<-loess(Lifeexp~GNI,na.
action = na.exclude)

Estimate region of highest probabilty density
Estimate region of highest probabilty density
Dear R-community
I have data consisting of x and y. To each pair (x,y) a z value (weight) is assigned. With kde2d I can estimate the densities on a regular grid and based on this make a contour plot (not considering the z-values). According to an earlier post in the list I adjusted the kde2d to kde2d.weighted (see code below) to estimate the

Centring titles for pairs of plots.
I would like to centre titles for pairs of plots in a 3-x-2
array. Each row of the array corresponds to a calendar year
and I would like to have the year value centred between the
two plots in the row, and just above their upper edges.
I have attached an example in "demo.pdf" showing roughly
what I want. I managed to produce the example using

Help with installing add-on packages
Dear R users.
Recently I wanted to update my R distribution to the current one (R-2.7.1). I am running a Fedora core 8 distirbution. The installation went fine, but when I tried to add some additional packages the majority made an exit with an error. Only a few least demanding (e.g. RColorBrewer) managed to get through the installation process.
What happened between the versions 2.6.x and 2.7.x

Smoothing a persp graph
Hi,
I'm unable to find a way to smooth data for a persp() graph.
Example, suppose that I have data x,y,z like this:
x <- 1:10
y <- 1:10
k <- 20
z <- outer(x, y, "*") + matrix( k*runif(100, -1, 1), 10, 10)
persp(x, y, z, theta = 35, phi = 25)
The graph is not very nice. Is there a way to smooth the z data so that at the end the graph would look more like something

Problem installing packages in newer versions of R
Dear all,
I was wandering what could be wrong with my system (regularly updated Fedora core 8) so that installing packages does not succeed with almost every package. I follow the procedure specified in the help file R-admin section 6.3. This is not a feature new to the current version but happened (to me) in the previous version as well. Additionally R-help html pages try to follow wrong links

2 D non-parametric density estimation
I have spatial data in 2 dimensions - say (x,y). The correlation
between x and y is fairly substantial. My goal is to use a
non-parametric approach to estimate the multivariate density describing
the spatial locations. Ultimately, I would like to use this estimated
density to determine the area associated with a 95% probability contour
for the data.
Given the strong correlation between x and

2-dim density plot
Hi All,
I have a 2-dim density defined on 0<x<1, 0<y<1, x<y. I know the exact
formula of the density. How can I visualize it? What plot functions can I
use?
Thanks,
Annie
