rsync filter rules ignored by rsnapshot
Hello guys,
sorry for cross-posting, but imho it could be an error in my rsnapshot setup
as well as in my rsync setup. If there is a solution on one of these mailing-lists i will
post it to the other one as well. ok?
here is my question: when running rsnapshot, my exclude filter is being ignored, but i don't see why.
grep -v "#" /etc/rsnapshot-debx40.conf | grep .

Hello,
yesterday i posted this issue on snapshot-discuss at listsourceforge.net (subject:
wondering why backup wont start), but after reading the FAQ and searching the
bugzilla DB i thought it could help to post here as well.
i have a problem. But let me first describe my setup. i followed this howto:

Now there is a backup server rpi-home

Branching on 'grep' returns...
Greetings, all.
I'm fiddling with some text manipulation in R, and I've found
something which feels counterintuitive to my PERL-trained senses; I'm
hoping that I can glean new R intuition about the situation.
Here's an example, as concise as I could make it.
trg<-c("this","that")
# these two work as I'd expected.
if ( grep("this",trg) ) {

boot.stepAIC fails with computed formula
I'm trying to use boot.stepAIC for feature selection; I need to be able to specify the name of the dependent variable programmatically, but this appear to fail:
In R-Studio with MS R Open 3.4:

x2 <- runif(n, -3, 3)
x3 <- runif(n, -3, 3)
x4 <- runif(n, -3, 3)

x6 <- runif(n, -3, 3)

boot.stepAIC fails with computed formula
Until I get a fix that works, a work-around would be to rename the 'y1' column, used a fixed formula, and rename it back afterwards.
Thanks for your help.

boot.stepAIC fails with computed formula
It seems that if you build the formula as a character string, and
postpone the "as.formula" into the lm call, it works.
instead of
frm1 <- as.formula(paste(trg,"~1"))
use
frm1a <- paste(trg,"~1")
and then
strt <- lm(as.formula(frm1a),dat)

Heinz

rsync 3.0.9 segmentation fault
Hi,
I am experiencing segfaults when transferring files via rsync though sudo.
Setup:
- Backupserver initiates the rsync command with --delete -vvv
--no-inc-recursive --numeric-ids --delete-excluded --relative
--rsync-path=/home/backupuser/rsync-wrapper.sh
- rsync-wrapper.sh (on the client) contains /usr/bin/sudo /usr/bin/rsync

using the name of an argument in a function
Hi all,
In a function, I need to get the name of a variable that has been used to
call the function.
For example, I want:
--- 8< ------
toto <- 3
fun <- function(y){
nameOfY <-deparse(substitute(y))
cat("name is ",nameOfY)
}
fun(toto)
# [1] name is toto
--- 8< ----
But deparse(substitute(y)) does not work all the time, especially when we
use generic function.

SImplify your call to lm using the "." argument instead of
manipulating formulas.
> strt <- lm(y1 ~ ., data = dat)
and you do not need to explicitly specify the "1+" on the rhs for lm, so
> frm2<-as.formula(paste(trg," ~ ", paste(xvars,collapse = "+")))
works fine, too.
Anyway, doing this gives (but see end of output)"

package.skeleton.S4
Hi the devel list.
I am adapting the package.skeleton to S4 classes and methods
I would have been very proud to post a new working function on this list.
Unfortunately, I do not manage to solve all the problems. Mainly
- sys.source does not compile a file with setClass
- dumpMethod does not exists yet
In the following code, thise two problems are notified by a line

boot.stepAIC fails with computed formula
OK, here's the problem. Continuing with your example:
strt1 <- lm(y1 ~1, dat)
strt2 <- lm(frm1,dat)
> strt1
Call:
lm(formula = y1 ~ 1, data = dat)
Coefficients:
(Intercept)
41.73
> strt2
Call:
lm(formula = frm1, data = dat)
Coefficients:
(Intercept)
41.73
Note that the formula objects of the lm object are different: strt2
does not evaluate the formula. So

How to sync an exact list of files, Including deletes!?
Hello,
I'm author of Lsyncd - the live syncing deamon -
http://code.google.com/p/lsyncd/ - a daemon that uses Linux` inotify
to watch for filesystem changes - aggregates them for a few seconds
and then periodically calls rsync to transfer the changes to
target(s). Version 1 was simply aware of directories only, and it
called rsync once with --delete -d for every directory in which

transforming character categories
Dear R users,
apologies for this quite simple question. I've tried serverall
approaches, however, could not generate the desired result.
I have a large data frame, which has several cathegories encoded as
character strings, for example.
Name, income, gender, ...
... "from 1000$ to 2000$" ...
... "from 2000$ to 3000$" ...
... "more than 3000$" ...

2 questions regarding base-n and identifing digits
Dear listers,
I have two questions:
(1)
Is there a way in R to change the base-n of the calculations. I wnat to run
some calculations either in binary (base-2) or base-4. Is there a way to
specify that in R - to chnage from the decimal?
(2)
I also want to extract the digits from a larger number and store them as a
vector.
I could do it through converting top string, parsing the string and

I'm just looking for an easy way to find the positions of a complete

and the result should be

vncviewer via gateway option question
the man page for vncviewer presents the -via gateway option to use ssh
through a gateway.
I understand if I want a secure vnc connection to server.foo.com I can
use the command:
vncviewer localhost -via server.foo.com
But I have moved my SSHD services from port 22 to port n. So according
to the man pages, I need an environment variable of VNC_VIA_CMD and
override the default command with:
