[External] Mitigating Stalls Caused by Call Deparse on Error
This is probably best viewed in the context of other issue with displaying calls, such as issues arising from calls constructed in non-standard evaluation contexts. Might be good to move to a wishlist item in bugzilla. Best, luke On Sat, 13 Jul 2019, brodie gaslam via R-devel wrote: > When large calls cause errors R may stall for extended periods.? [External] Mitigating Stalls Caused by Call Deparse on Error
Better to add this to the wishlist item. This all needs to be looked at together, and nothing is likely to happen until after vacation/conference season. It will disappear from everyone's radar if it is just in R_devel. Best, luke On Sun, 14 Jul 2019, brodie gaslam wrote: > Luke, thanks for considering the issue.? Mitigating Stalls Caused by Call Deparse on Error
When large calls cause errors R may stall for extended periods.? This is particularly likely to happen with `do.call`, as in this example with a 24 second stall: ??? x <- runif(1e7) ??? system.time(do.call(paste0, list(abs, x)))? # intentional error ??? ## Error in (function (..., collapse = NULL)? : ??? ##?? cannot coerce type 'builtin' to vector of type 'character' ??? ##

[External] Mitigating Stalls Caused by Call Deparse on Error
We also have a few other suggestions and wishes about backtrace storage and display on the one hand, and display of constructed calls on the other hand. Perhaps it would be better to open a different wishlist item for traceback() to keep the discussions focused? FWIW I think deparsing backtraces lazily is a great idea. Displaying 1 line per call by default in interactive sessions, while being

RGtk2 on linux: "stack smashing detected"
Yea I am aware of this. This is because the Ubuntu binary has stack smashing detection enabled. It's possible to build R without this checking: export CFLAGS="-fno-stack-protector" I have not been able to figure out why stack smashing is detected. I'm cc'ing this to r-devel in case anyone else has an idea. Michael On Wed, Aug 6, 2008 at 12:31 AM, Felix Andrews

[External] Mitigating Stalls Caused by Call Deparse on Error
Luke, thanks for considering the issue.? I would like to try to separate the problem into two parts, as I _think_ your comments address primarily part 2 below: 1. How can we avoid significant and possibly crippling ?? stalls on error with these non-standard calls. 2. What is the best way to view these non-standard calls. I agree that issue 2. requires further thought and discussion under a

problem with findFun call from embedded R
I was debugging a problem reported to me regarding PL/R, and found that I can duplicate it using only R sources. It might be characterized as possibly a misuse of the findFun() function, but I leave that for the R devel experts to decide. The below results are all with R-2.5.1 (I can't seem to download r-patched at the moment, but didn't see anything in the 2.5.1-patched release

deparse with parentheses for SUBSET
Hi, maybe there?s a reason for it, but the discrepancy between the handling of `[` and `$` in deparsing seems odd to me: > substitute(a[1], list(a = quote(x * y))) x * y[1] > substitute(a$b, list(a = quote(x * y))) (x * y)$b The former is still executed in the right order (`*` first, then `[`), which is not what you?d expect looking at the deparse result. Some code that shows the execution

getGraphicsEvent() and setTimeLimit() bug and compatibility patch.
Hey all. Setting a time limit with setTimeLimit(), and then using getGraphicsEvent(), will cause graphics event handling for the current device to break on timeout, until the device is destroyed and recreated. The problem lies in do_getGraphicsEvent() checking the value of dd->gettingEvent and concluding it's being called recursively (ironically this same test fails to detect actual

robustbase adjbox segfault - memory not mapped
Hi, I encountered a segfault, memory not mapped error when using adjbox in robustbase. In trying to recreate the issue I found that the error occurs only for large sample size. Here is the code. > require(robustbase) Loading required package: robustbase > x <- rnorm(10) > y <- rep(1, 10) > adjbox(x ~ y) ## gives a plot > x <- rnorm(10000) > y <- rep(1,

Package: xen-utils-common Version: 4.3.0-3 Severity: normal Dear Maintainer, * What led up to the situation? I upgraded my server from squeeze to wheezy and then to jessie. [PATCH] tools: revert to using /var and /etc/
26470:acaf29203cf9 "tools+stubdom: install under /usr/local by default" moved more stuff under /usr/local than was desirable. In particular SYSCONFIG_DIR (configuration for initscripts) moved to /usr/local/etc/{sysconfig,defaults} while the initscripts themselves (correctly) remained in /etc/init.d. Moving /etc/xen/scripts breaks the udev bakcned rules file. Lastly stuff under /var was

R-beta: formula() and model formulae
Several bugs (no solutions, yet). These might be well known. 1) If one does, e.g., mymod <- lm(y ~ x); formula(mymod) then one does not get back the formula (one gets, Error: invalid formula) 2) if x is of mode numeric, then the model formula mymod <- lm(y ~ x + x^2) is not processed as S would do it. The model is fit ignoring the x^2 term, however mymod$call includes the x^2 term.
