Aggregate data frame across columns
Folks, I have a data frame with columns 200401, 200402, ..., 201207, 201208. These represent years/months. What would be the best way to sum these columns by year? What about by quarter? Thanks for your time, KW -- [[alternative HTML version deleted]]

Problem: dovecot-lda doesn't auto-create folders
Hello everyone, I recently updated to dovecot 2.0.19 (in fact, I updated the whole system to Ubuntu 12.04 LTS, I am using the dovecot from the Ubuntu packages) and just today found out that the dovecot-lda for some reason doesn't auto-create missing folders anymore as it did with my old installation (1.0.10). I have a "system users" layout and send my mails through a

Xen 4.0 memory overcommitment
Hello, I am running a functional Xen 4.0 platform. The objective is the project I am currently running is to replace 4 VMWare ESX by 4 Xen 4.0 hypervisors. I have been able to reproduce all the core VMWare features in Xen (but better of course =D) except memory overcommitment. I know this feature has been included since Xen 3.3 but I have found almost no information about it. When I try to

kernel parameters for improving gluster writes on millions of small writes (long)
This is a continuation of my previous posts about improving write perf when trapping millions of small writes to a gluster filesystem. I was able to improve write perf by ~30x by running STDOUT thru gzip to consolidate and reduce the output stream. Today, another similar problem, having to do with yet another bioinformatics program (which these days typically handle the 'short reads' that

[Bridge] Bridge & it's MAC address question
Hi, Could somebody explain, why bridge uses minimal MAC of the attached devices? It makes this address instable, variable during bridge life-cycle, which is not good for DHCP. For example, I want to attach multiple virtual devices to one physical. Then, I need to make sure that after each virtual device addition, bridge addr is not changed and still addr of the physical device. Why not to

samba-3 problem joining ws to domain
G'day Rauno, Just wondering if you ever found a solution to your problem (http://lists.samba.org/archive/samba/2003-September/073997.html) regarding Windows 2K workstations joining a Samba3 domain. I seem to be experiencing the same problems - with the access denied message. Any ideas would be most appreciated. Regards Corey Johnston.

unix groups and samba, printing
My samba environment is very simple, stable and useful. I'm still running samba 2.0.x as a workgroup and having been handling heirarchal group access for years via symlinks from $HOME and Unix group perms. This machine has always been just a file server. I've been adding scsi drives as space requirements have grown. Now I have good need (due to the addition of a Win2K terminal server)

How to set user or file name on printing ...
I run samba on Solaris with encrypted passwords ... however I get people occasionally visiting my location who need to get to certain basic services like printing without having a user/account/password set up for them. A while ago I asked this list if there was some way to configure my server so that the printers didn't require any username/password to do printing .... nobody responded, and

XiphQT Installer for Microsoft Windows Created
In the greatest tradition of Next > Next > Next > Next > Next > Next, the Xiph.Org Foundation releases an Installer for the Xiph Quicktime Components under Windows. Before I upload it to //xiph.org I would appreciate if someone would test it for me. The implementation is simple, and I did test it, but better safe than sorry. //saoshyant.paramnesiac.net/temp/XiphQT.exe That's

Horses for courses - why not Wine 3.11, Wine 95, Wine 98, Wine NT etc.?
Having unsuccessfully browsed around the Wine FAQ for an answer, forgive my asking this directly ! Wouldn't it make a certain amount of sense to have separate Wine projects with partially shared codebases, to realise compatibility with the different flavours of Windows ? [I have not inspected the codebase, so excuse me if this is already the case.] In this way, you are not aiming at a
