I broke WINE plz help.
I changed this week to Ubuntu from winows 7. I spent the last few days trying to get World of Warcraft to run. After tossing lots of code at this and days on the net I was able to get it to work using PlayOnLlinux and WINE. Today...I thought I would work on getting my MS Office 2010 to install and work. I hosed every thing. Had MSXML issues and sorm rtpd4.dll file I had to down load and over

Problem Updating from 2.71 to 2.8 in Ubuntu
Hello, I have recently installed Ubuntu (8.10) Intrepid Ibex and I am trying to get R version 2.8. I have changed my /etc/apt/sources.list file to include a mirror. I have also added the Vincent Goulet key. However, whenever I run sudo apt-get update sudo apt-get install r-base it installs version 2.71. Given that I am new to Ubuntu, is there anything that I need to do to make ubuntu get

Install latest R version from apt on Lenny
well, I had the site and page and I had added the relevant backport but it didn't work and i keep installing R 2.7 . Don't know why; i probably missed something. #### May be you should add in your mail the file : /etc/apt/sources.list (I suppose there might be a typo, as IT addresses are long and booring, and AFAIK, correcting a typo one made is **very** difficult). FYI binary installs

Installing LLVM 3.8 on Ubuntu 14.04
You want to look at the apt-add-repository command, basically you provide that command like: * sudo add-apt-repository 'deb http://llvm.org/apt/trusty/ llvm-toolchain-trusty-3.8 main' * sudo apt-get update * sudo apt-get install clang-3.8 Cheers, -Neil. R hangs on the stats.so library
Dear all, I having this problem on my laptop. It was caused by my clumsy attempts to upgrade the system. As I wrote here, (http://www.mail-archive.com/r-sig-debian at r-project.org/msg01364.html) I was trying to solve the same problem with JAGS/rjags on my laptop. After typing R in a terminal I'm currently get the following: > R version 2.9.0 (2009-04-17) > Copyright (C) 2009 The R

Installing LLVM 3.8 on Ubuntu 14.04
What is the recommended way to install LLVM 3.8 on Ubuntu 14.04? The generic apt-get thinks 3.4 is the latest version. I found instructions at http://llvm.org/apt/ but they don't work; deb and deb-src are not recognised commands, and the suggested apt-get variants are unable to locate the package. -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed... State of the Breezy
What''s the current state of Rails installation on a fresh Ubuntu Breezy? I''ve just set up a laptop with a fresh installation, and tried to install ruby et al, and got nowhere fast. The default ruby is 1.8.3, and compiling the source for 1.8.4 leaves the rubygems setup.rb breaking unable to find zlib (and yes, I have checked for zlib1g-dev and readline). Is there a known

Installing and maintaining R on Ubuntu 9.04 -, best practice
I had an exchange of ideas on this with Dirk E. a couple of months ago. He can correct this if I state it wrongly, but 1) we agreed that using apt/Synaptic structure was best, but sometimes the packages are not available 2) also that using install.packages when there is a .deb can lead to some "confusion" (the package database on the local system does not know about an R package

Cran2deb4ubuntu: An Update for 2014
I have been a little quiet on the update front for the past few months, so I thought I would give a quick update as 2014 begins. Between increased responsibilities at work (pseudo-department chair) and some family health issues, work on [cran2deb4ubuntu](https://launchpad.net/~marutter/+archive/c2d4u) (c2d4u) slowed a bit in the last half of 2013. Here is the current state of

Moving to R 3.0.0 on Ubuntu
This is a post I just added to my Ubuntu R Blog (http://www.personal.psu.edu/mar36/blogs/the_ubuntu_r_blog/2013/03/moving-to-r-300-on-ubuntu.html). As you may (or may not) be aware of, R 3.0.0 is [scheduled to be released](http://www.r-project.org/) on April 3rd. Since this is a major release and there may be some growing pains (but I hope not) in the move 3.0.0, here is some information

Request for jags package to be added to CRAN Debian/Ubuntu archives
May I request that Dirk's package for jags be added to the CRAN archives for Debian and Ubuntu? Installing the rjags package for R requires specific versions of jags to be present on the system. The current version of rjags requires jags version 2.2.0 or later but the version on the Ubuntu archives at Canonical (i.e. not the CRAN archives) is 2.1.0-2 I can always install Dirk's package

mount.cifs and kerberos failure
Hi guys, This seems to be a well-known problem with mount.cifs on Ubuntu 12.04. Unfortunately, although I have applied the suggestions I found with google, I can't seem to be able to get mount.cifs to work with kerberos. I am trying to use kerberos to mount my Windows shares because this is the only allowed secure way in my company to connect to shares. Before anyone asks, I can successfully

Backporting R 3.0.0 to Quantal, Precise, and Lucid
Today (May 4, 2013) I will begin the process of backporting R 3.0.0 to Quantal, Precise, and Lucid. This will include all the recommended packages and the packages for R found in the universe repository for Ubuntu. Things to keep in mind: - If you do not want to receive these upgrades and you use the CRAN repositories or my Launchpad PPA, please remove them from your apt/synaptic sources lists.

Problems with VM networking on Ubuntu Quantal
I have shifted some VM's to a new server running Quantal and have had a world of trouble. The first one was caused by issues with an apparently compiled in path in their apparmor version which forced VM pools to be in /srv or similar rather than where I wanted them. For now this was not a big issue, and thankfully the server where it would be a big time problem (there are individual drives per

CentOS 5 netinstall problem
Hi, all. I'm attempting to install CentOS 5 via netinstall from <mirror.centos.org/centos/5/os/i386> & it gets as far as formatting the disk but when it gets to: 'Starting install process. This may take take several minutes...' it hangs forever (well, a couple of hours). Dropping down in a console I see it's telling me: 'Preparing to install' then nothing.
