Linux/Winbind AD domain member loses membership after about 4 days
Hi all,
I have a Linux server running Samba (samba-*-3.5.10-115) and Winbind on
CentOS 6.2. I've joined it to the domain using "net rpc join..." and it
worked fine. "wbinfo -u" lists users as i'd expect. However, after a few
days, the Linux server loses it's ability to see users on the domain. I
restart all related services "smb, nmb, winbind" but still

Moving a domain to new Linux install - Win7 ok but WinXP not ok
Hi all,
I am migrating a Samba 3 domain from an ageing server to a new server. I've
exported all users from the old server and imported them on the new server
using the following command (LDAP to TdbSam):
pdbedit -i ldapsam:ldap://127.0.0.1 -e tdbsam:/tmp/tdbsam.agix
scp /tmp/tdbsam.agix new.server.local:/etc/samba/passdb.tdb
I've set the same SID on the new server. Windows7

samba-tool not working as i'd expect
Hello all,
I'm having problems using the "samba-tool" tool. From the documentation
i've read, the following command 'should' work. Apparently i'm missing
something.
####
[root at vmhost bin]# pwd
/usr/local/samba/bin
[root at vmhost bin]# ./samba-tool domain provision --realm=mytest.local
--domain=MYTEST --adminpass='welcome' --server-role='dc'

Asterisk Inbound calls, multiple SIP accounts, calledID
Solved it, kinda. It's not cute. I'm sure this is the way NOT to do it but
it does work. For prosperity, the SIP service is through Internode.
Here is my "extensions.conf" file:
exten => s,1,Set(thedid="${SIP_HEADER(TO)}"); ignore this one
exten => s,2,Set(pseudodid=${SIP_HEADER(To)})
exten => s,3,Set(pseudodid=${CUT(pseudodid,@,1)})

Is it possible to change the root/Administrator user to another username?
Greetings Samba users,
In the process of setting up Samba, one of the item you need to need is add a root user to the samba password database.
I was wondering if it is possible to change the name of the Samba root/Administrator user to another user, like smbroot ?
I checked the 'username map' option in the man pages, but it doesn't appear to do what I want. From the man page it

DC with external LDAP
Hi!
Is there a way to use an external LDAP server with Samba4 (eg. openldap) to authenticate users or
alternatively to sync Samba's internal LDAP with other services like Radius?
My goal is to enter all user credentials to either an external or Samba4 internal LDAP and make Samba, Radius, etc. use it for authentication / as a master when synchronizing user data.
I already tried:

Asterisk Inbound calls, multiple SIP accounts, calledID
Hi Dmitriy and others and thanks for your help so far.
The option "match_auth_username=yes" seems to have had no effect. From my
reading, this option will try to match the username of the incoming SIP
account to a section heading. If that is how it must work then i can see a
big problem. I'm trying to present the receptionist with a nice display of
which line the call came in on.

Losing access to drive within XP
This sounds more like an Windows problem, but it is an interaction with
Samba and I'm hoping someone has an idea of where to start looking.
3 times in the past week I've had a user (different user each time) come to
me saying their P: drive is inaccessible, access denied. The P: drive is set
in the user's Active Directory Profile as their home directory
\\sambaserver\home$\%username%

pam_winbind - losing domain membership
Hello,
I have the following setup:
SuSE 9.1 with samba and winbind installed. On the other side is a nt4
domain. I can join the domain with "net rpc join DOMAIN -U
administrator".
wbinfo -u shows me alle the users etc.
I integrated the pam_winbind.so in my pam configuration and users can
login with their nt login and password. Everything works fine.
After a while it seems that

Samba 3.6.6, ADS, Winbind, no local Unix account
We run AD on Windows servers and have Linux systems
authenticate against AD with pam, for shares, cyrus mail, or shell logins.
For shares on a Linux system we often have no local account.
We've had success with Samba 3.5.10 and prior versions using
security = ads with winbind, pam, nsswitch.conf, krb5.conf
while there is no local Unix account.
Starting after this version, possibly 3.6.0 and

Asterisk Inbound calls, multiple SIP accounts, calledID
Hello all,
I have an Asterisk server (Asterisk 10.12.4) with multiple sip accounts
with the same service provides. We have 8 phone numbers in total.
Incoming calls from the public are all correctly directed to appropriate
office handsets. However, the display on the reception phone (the only one
i care about) is always showing the same "SIP/Account1_0843214321" rather
than the account

Asterisk Inbound calls, multiple SIP accounts, calledID
Hi, Andrew.
You are trying to solve two tasks: definition through what line the call
came and a beautiful display of this information.
1. definition through what line the call came. If the username and
password for inbound and outbound registration the same, then try the
following:
a) delete "register" lines.
b) add option "callbackextension=Company1" to Company1 friend

Samba clients losing domain membership
Hello,
we are currently in the process of migrating Windows machines to Ubuntu
10.04. For now, these machines act as samba clients in a Windows domain
(which is controlled also by a samba PDC), and are itself sharing files
via SMB/CIFS. The clients are - from time to time and with no apparent
reason - losing their domain membership. When this happens, access to
shares on the PDC still seems to

3.6 member to 2008 AD, winbind integration, users sometimes lose group membership
We've had linux fileservers in our org for a long time and this roughly
coincided with version 3.6.
Our linux member servers are winbound, filesystems are ext2+ with acl
support and permissions assigned to AD groups via setfacl.
At any given time, out of all the users that use the fileshares daily
there are about 1-2 that get "access denied" by the client os (win xp, 7
and 8).

Asterisk Inbound calls, multiple SIP accounts, calledID
This is one of the chronic problems. Try this option in sip.conf:
match_auth_username=yes
Carefully read the description, it is better to test in "after hours".

winbindd_pam_auth_crap: invalid password length
Hi,
I am using squid+ntlm-helper+samba+winbindd.
Squid mailing list told me to try this one.
When using the setting "Send NTLMv2 Response only" on my windows VISTA
machines I get this error message in my logs.
winbindd_pam_auth_crap: invalid password length.
As soon as I change the setting to "Send NTLMv2 if negotiated" it works.

Samba 3.5 loses local master browser election to Win7 32bits
Hi All:
I'm facing a weird behavior with Samba 3.5.10. It's a CentOS 6.3
repository RPM. Samba is acting as a PDC and integrated with OpenLDAP
2.4.23, also a CentOS RPM, through smbldap-tools 0.9.3 (from EPEL).
In my network I have Windows 7 64 bits and Windows 7 32 bits. The
problem is that Samba is losing local master browser 'status' to Win7
32 bits machines. From time to
