Samba4 internal DNS not responding to DNS requests
I am not able to get the Samba4 internal DNS server to respond to DNS
requests on the network.
I am running Samba4 4.1.0pre1-GIT-c1fb37d on my CentOS 6.3 system. I
followed the instructions here:
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba_AD_DC_HOWTO
I configured Samba4 to use the internal DNS server. My Samba4 server is
192.168.0.13. Its full hostname is ubuntu-ad.allenlan.net. The realm is

Samba4 and DNS
Hey Everyone,
I've been reading through the Samba4 docs, but I am a bit confused,
so please forgive me if I have missed anything obvious.
I am trying to setup Samba4 as a Domain Controller for our
department. We do not control our DNS; that is done through campus IT.
All of our workstations (soon to be members of the domain) already
have entries in campus DNS. If I were to

Samba3 to Samba4 migration: Databases and backend.
Hi!
We're currently in the process of evaluating an upgrade from our current setup (Samba3 with Kerberos/OpenLDAP and Bind), to Samba4.
When we started reading about the migration process, we were led to believe that OpenLDAP wasn't fully supported in Samba4, and thus decided to use Samba4's builtin solution.
Then upon reading the How-To on the Wiki, the "Migrating from LDAP

various DNS scenarios / setups with samba4 + BIND9
Hello everybody,
I am not sure which DNS setup will fit best for my suites. I can imagine,
that there are a lot of users out there using also BIND9 servers in their
environment and can share their experience. In my case I am running
following setup:
I have two existing hosts running with DNS and DHCP services. I have setup a
DHCP-Cluster with isc-dhcp-server on both machines, that means I have a

Samba4 successful deployment
Recently I migrated to samba4 in my company.
So far so good.
debian 6
samba4.1.0pre1
bind9.9.1-P1 (working pretty well. it even updates the reverse zone and no
problems at all with the forwarder)
ntp-4.2.6p5
All services authenticating with samba4: mail (postfix + dovecot +
squirrelmail), jabber (openfire), proxy (squid), even MS Sql server 2000,
Net Support Manager and GFI Endpoint Security.

Forwarder all reverse zones that AD DNS not authoritative
hi folks,
To forward everything that does not belong to AD (subdomain
ad.domain.intra) to the domain "domain.intra" I configured an entry as show
below in named.conf.local
zone "domain.intra" IN {
type forward;
forward only;
forwarders { 172.16.1.10; }; # ns1.domain.intra
};
Within this network (172.16.1.0/24) I have dc1 (dc1.ad.domain.intra), dc2

I already have this entry, but for reverse lookup it does not work.
Eg:
dig suporte.domain.intra +short
172.16.1.15
dig -x 172.16.1.15 +short shows nothing

samba4 AD DC & manually creating DNS records?
I'm trying to use a DNS server independent from Samba (non BIND, on a
different machine/system).
Beyond the two simple records of:
SRV _ldap._tcp.samdom.example.com
and
SRV _kerberos._udp.samdom.example.com
If I maintain all the A records for individual hosts (& the
server.samdom.example.com machine), should that work?
Are there any other special / SRV records that Samba4's

Samba4 - DNS update from clients
Hi,
I have actually a samba4 domain with linux and windows workstations.
When I join them to the domain, a DNS record is successfully created but
when a machine get a new/different IP address, DNS record is not updated.
We have an external (debian) iscp-dhcp server. Is it possible to update
samba4's bind zone from this DHCP ?

Forward lookup DNS Issues samba 4.1.12-9 el6
Hi guys,
I know this sounds vague and I'll try to explain in more depth now,
but firstly, does Samba4 internal DNS, cache any records that were
looked up from a forwarder, and then secondly what is the default
timeout for waiting for a DNS lookup off of a DNS forwarder?
I've installed two new Samba4 PDC's(using the built in DNS server and
not named) for two separate sites, and both

DNS problem
A records added manually get the answer: unknown host.
No matter how they are added. I tried using MMC and samba-tool. I can see
them in MMC and with samba-tool, but when I do tests again my samba server
using ping or nslookup the answer is unknown host.
It happens since I moved my samba container (I'm using proxmox) from a
server to another. both hp proliant.
I guess it has something to do

using samba4 as an authentication source
Hi,
i have to deploy a integrated services platform consisting of a samba3,
web-groupware and email (exim+cyrus) service, which has very limited
options for user management. This new server is to replace a windows
2008 server. I am free to create all users anew.
I'll try to configure it to use an external source as a single source of
authentication and join the samba3 to a samba4-Domain

samba3 to samba4 // logon hours // server role secrets.tdb, secrets.ldb
Hello.
I tried the migration from samba3 domain master (pdc) to a samba4.
samba4 -V:
Version 4.1.0pre1-GIT-2c3a808
I used the wiki entry about samba3 migration as a guide, copied over
the data etc. but I have some questions left.
fyi - samba3 tdbsam backend. I removed/edited serveral user accounts
with Umlauts in Fullname/Displayname. (tdbdump/text editor/tdbrestore)

Samba4 for AD using existing LDAP, Kerberos, and Bind Setup.
We run Apple's OD to support our Linux, Mac, and Windows clients and servers. We are under pressure to use AD because more and more software coming out for Windows requires it. We don't want to use AD, so Samba4 looks good. However, we don't want to pull apart our directory to implement samba4. Is there a way to get Samba 4 running so that it is able to use the existing LDAP and

If you are setting up bind on the DC like that, you have a problem, you are not using DLZ.

Samba4 AD Groups Problem
Hi!
I created a Samba4 Demo Server to test AD functionality. Basically
it's a Debian Wheezy machine with a manually compiled Samba4
(smbstatus -V: Version 4.1.0pre1-GIT-051a1a9) according to
https://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba4/HOWTO but adjusted the paths
to a more debian way.
I can Manage the Server with the Windows Domain Utilities, add users,
add groups, add Machines and so

The problem was definitely SELinux and/or firewall (iptables).
Thank you for the help.
