Problems switching from RHEL 6 to Centos 6
Thank you. I could resolve the issues, by editing stuff in /etc/yum/pluginconf.d There, I created a file rhnplugin.conf with the content [rhel-6-server-extras-rpms] enabled=0 [rhel-6-server-optional-rpms] enabled=0 and I edited the file search-disabled-repos.conf and inserted into the line ignored-repos= ... the pattern rhel* I do not know whether this second step was necessary, I happened

Questions about kernel updates
The latest CentOS 5 kernel, 2.6.18-8.1.15.el5 broke my box and I had to drop back to 2.6.18-8.1.14.el5 before I could play DVDs with either Xine or mplayer. ( xine-0.99.5-1.el5.rf & mplayer-1.0-0.36.rc1try2.el5.rf ). This is no big deal to me -- as long as I can make certain that the older kernel doesn't go away. If I understand the installonly plugin correctly, an entry of tokeep=4 in

yum-utils and yum-utils-plugins
All, We are currently testing the yum-utils and yum-utils-plugins in the dev.centos.org repository. The two main plugins that this allows that I think would be great for normal users are protectbase and fastestmirror. See the announcement on the centos-devel list for details: http://lists.centos.org/pipermail/centos-devel/2005-November/000947.html Thanks, Johnny Hughes -------------- next

Skype Public Key - How to install PGP Public Key in CentOS5, from alternate site that I have in web browser?
Hello: A simple question: On this Wiki page: http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Skype it says that the normal method for the Public Key isn't working. I copied the URL for the alternate key location http://gd.tuwien.ac.at/infosys/phone/skype/rpm-public-key.asc into the browser and I get a PGP Public Key. Question: What rpm command do I use, to Import the Public Key that's in the browser

Installing Google's Picasa for Linux on CentOS 5
I downloaded the .rpm file from Google and am trying to install Picasa for Linux on CentOS 5. I get the below error. Is this because I'm using SELinux or because of something else? I found a small Picasa folder in /opt (24 items, 143.7 KB) but it seems to end there. Picasa is one of the programs my wife uses on Windows. TIA! What's wrong with yum-priorities?
"The upstream maintainer of yum, Seth Vidal, had the following to say about 'yum priorities' in September 2009: Gosh, I hope people do not set up yum priorities. There are so many things about priorities that make me cringe all over. It could just be that it reminds me of apt 'pinning' and that makes me want to hurl." This note was placed on the wiki

Thank you: Wiki data for adding 3rd party repository, ProtectBase and Priorities
This is a public thank you, to whoever wrote the Wiki's for adding 3rd party repositories, ProtectBase and Priorities. Clear, excellent, step by step instructions. I did this late last night and I missed the thing that Priorities is the recommended plugin, so I will change to that, from ProtectBase. :-) Lanny
