winbind service panics "randomly"
Hi all,
on a recently installed samba file server, the winbind service crashes
apparently randomly. Every few hours it's necessary to restart the winbind
service and then it works for a few more hours. Any ideas are welcome.
1) the environment: 2 debian stretch DC's with round-robind bind+dhcp with
dns-update. 1 fileserver also (AD backend) on debian stretch. All on self

USRMGR.EXE doesn't work anymore.
I've upgraded my system at Samba 3.0.20 (SLES 8) bacause of some errors
on winbind and Windows 2003.
Now, usrmgr.exe doesn't work anymore.
It reports: ?procedure number is out of range - Do you want to
administrate another domain??
USRMGR has been working for 3 years; I've made all upgrades on Windows
2000, but the results it's the same.
Any Idea?

Problem with network browsing
I'm trying to diagnose why my windows 10 clients can't do network browsing.
The network neighborhood doesn't show any of my machines running samba.
I've verified that all of my samba hosts are running nmbd!
I've reached the end of my ability to debug this, so I could really use
some help from the list to figure out why this isn't working.
I've isolated the situation

3.0.25 *breaks* stand alone server, 3.0.24 works fine
Gerry,
It looks like 3.0.25 breaks "stand alone/no winbind/no domain" servers.
This is remeniscent of the 3.0.23b SID/GID problem. The only thing that
jumps out at me is that you can't access your home share and other shares
just quit working. Looking at the log files, I see this:

Saving files with MS Word to samba3 server is very slow!
Hi!
I'm currently hunting a strange problem and looking for help!
I have a samba3 fileserver (currently samba-3.0.20b, but problem can
be reproduced with samba-3.0.7, but _not_ with samba2 like 2.2.8a),
and I see performance problems when writing files with MS word 2002 SP3
from a NT4.0 (SP6a) workstation. Saving even the smallest file takes more
than 10 seconds! Copying files with Windows

winbind service panics "randomly"
Hi Rowland,
thank you for another quick reply.
1) I did all the changes on the smb.conf you suggested and restart
samba-ad-dc on both DCs.
2) Changed file server log to 10 and rebooted it just because.
3) Winbind crashed.
3.1) I have a gut felling that if I leave it alone, it lasts longer. If I
do a wbinfo -u it's ok, but if I go and check it often, it eventually
crashes. Again, gut felling,

Problem with network browsing
SMBv1 (the anonymous thing behind network neighborhood) because of the massive
security problems it caused was decprecated. Microsoft came up with network
neighborhood and they've shut it down due to their bad implementation.
Samba, likewise, doesn't support SMBv1 by default.

If you have 1 member server, you could enabe nmbd in that server.
Or install : llmnrd on linux and/or avahi-deamon if you dont have a member.
And make sure you can use "proxy dns" as in,
The primary DNS domain on linux should match (see in windows) CMD: ipconfig /all
The :
- primay dns suffix
- DNS Suffix search order
Then you are able to use \\hostname or \\hostname.FQ.DN.TLD

A reasonable alternative is to run Christgau's excellent Web Service Discovery host daemon (wsdd) on the samba server and make sure
the Function Discovery Provider Host and Function Discovery Resource Publication services are running on the Windows 10 machines.
Get wsdd from here: https://github.com/christgau/wsdd.git
You can then stop and disable the nmbd on the samba machines as it's

Hello Volker,
I was able to get those level 10 logs - spitted by machine.
Unfortunately I don't know how attachments behave - Groupwise seems not to be happy with those - so I try the redundant way:
Here are the logfiles for this event (only one machine, one try):

In this file there are about 3 occurrences of the

System freeze if mount cifs share with option "hard", and samba server is not available
I know "hard" means command will hang if network is broken. But it seems that's not actuate. It's CPU that will hang.
Affected scope:
I tested it against CentOS 5/6/7, it can be reproduced on all the systems. the debug logs below are captured from CentOS 7 (cifs.ko v2.05)
How to reproduce this problem?
1. mount a cifs share with option "hard"
2. stop samba

[PATCH v2 3/5] VSOCK: support receive mergeable rx buffer in guest
Guest receive mergeable rx buffer, it can merge
scatter rx buffer into a big buffer and then copy
to user space.
In addition, it also use iovec to replace buf in struct
virtio_vsock_pkt, keep tx and rx consistency. The only
difference is now tx still uses a segment of continuous
physical memory to implement.
