rsync 2.6.8 copies directories but not files
I'm using a somewhat complicated --include/exclude chain to copy all
files matching a pattern, plus all files in certain subdirs.

About multiple hosts with same hostname
Hello all
I have a somewhat annoying problem with OpenSSH. Now, granted, it's
certainly not a bug. I'm just wondering what the best course of action is.
At work, we have multiple customers with machines named "fw0", "fs0",
etc. This is all good, since it conforms to a standard naming scheme, so
it's easier to administrate.
However, when we go to our

rsync uploading using ASCII translation ... ?
I am running rsync 2.6.3 on Cygwin 1.5.11-1 over ssh to a remote server
(server is also running rsync 2.6.3). When I upload a file via rsync to a
remote server, its filesize on the remote is much larger than the local
copy, leading me to believe some sort of ASCII translation is being done.
Some interesting things:
1. If I upload the file using scp instead of rsync, it works perfectly.
2. If

Cron Job?
Hi All,
How does one create a cron job that runs commands like:
/usr/local/awstats/wwwroot/cgi-bin/awstats.pl -config=xxx.com -update
/usr/local/awstats/wwwroot/cgi-bin/awstats.pl -config=yyy.com -update
Say every 15 mins?

create very large file system
Suse Linux Enterprise Server 9 SP3
I've tried to create a large 5TB file system using both reiserfs and ext3 and both have failed.
I end up with only a 1.5TB file system. Does anyone know why this doesn't work, what to do to fix it?
Others have suggested that only XFS or JFS will work. Is this so?
Thanks,

is.matrix
a=c(1,1,2);
is.matrix(a) gives FALSE
is.matrix(t(a)) gives TRUE
is.matrix(t(t(a))) gives TRUE
Is this correct? Shouldn't all give FALSE?
I think is.matrix should give FALSE when dimension is 1*n or n*1.

inherit acls not working
To my knowledge the 'inherit acls' option should make new files inherit
the default acls from the containing folder... Please correct me if I'm
wrong!
But when I turn this setting on, it just don't seem to work... In other
words, newly created files do not get the default acls from the
containing folder...
Please advice anyone... (running Samba 3.0.21b-1 on Debian Sarge)

Machine reboot - monit fails to start mongrels
Greetings -
I dug around a bit and I couldn''t find a definitive answer to this
question, apologies if it''s been covered before. A box running a
apache 2.2 -> mongrel cluster for a rails app got power cycled at my
ISP. Unfortunately monit couldn''t start the mongrel processes
because the pid files were still there. Here is my monit config (for

[Fwd: mounting as a regular user]
Thank you for the reply Joe.
Which smb.conf files would you want to see? I am trying to mount shares
from 2 FreeBSD, 1 RH9 (linux) and 2 Windows servers to a directory
structure on my system. To give an idea my mount script is as follows
(with some info removed):
# Smeagol (FreeBSD Domain Controler/Profile Server)
#
mount -t smbfs -o username=$user,password=$pass,ro //smeagol/home-dir$

I am using ant version 1.5 I know that there is an scp command in ant 1.6 but our plans do not have us moving to 1.6 for a while ( not the only application on the box using ant / xml ). I am running in an IBM Unix environment. I am attempting to get scp to work within an xml file called by ant.
Thank You for any support you may provide.

rsync server and --delete option
Hello,
Here is my problem:
A rsync daemon is started on serverA with the root user.
Now if I try to sync serverA to serverB :
rsync -nPru --delete serverA::test/temp/ /temp/
the behavior is just perfect and everything goes well.
Now if I try to switch the server :
rsync -nPru --delete /temp/* serverA::wwwroot/temp/

user.SAMBA_PAI and ACL inheritance
I have just enabled user_xattr on the partition where my samba share is
on. Now when I use getfattr I see the extended attribute user.SAMBA_PAI
on my files. But ACL inheritance isn't taking place...
When I (from within Windows) click on Properties > Security > Advanced
an then enable "Allow inheritable permissions..." on a certain file,
then the attribute user.SAMBA_PAI

CYGWIN Rsync exclude/include problem
I'm having troubles with getting rsync 2.5.5 (CYGWIN version) to include/exclude files they way I expect it to. I have mulled over the list postings and man pages regarding this and I am either missing something or ... well I don' know.
I have a drive with 12 folders in the root however, I only want to rsync 5 of them (the ones marked with an *) and in those 4 I want to exclude certain

NT_STATUS_LOGON_FAILURE
I recently upgraded from RedHat 6.2 to 7.3. I had samba running
fine so I could mount space on our windows network. Somehow this
got broken in the upgrade. My linux box is called k466a and my
username there is mcliff. On the windows network I am cliffm.
If I do

Problem with Samba cutting dir listings short
Hi,
I have a peculiar problem with my Samba installation. I have a directory with
lots of files that I want to make available via Samba. I can connect just fine,
but I quickly noticed a lot of files seemed to be missing.
After some testing I found out that the directory listing was simple cut off,
right in the middle of a filename even. I created a test-directory with 1000
random files in
