extracting information from txt file
Hello, Here is a link to some data: http://www.epa.gov/emap/html/data/surfwatr/data/mastreams/9396/wchem/chmval.txt I am trying to read this in, and want to use: chmval <- read.table("http://www.epa.gov/emap/html/data/surfwatr/data/mastreams/9396/wchem/chmval.txt", sep=",", skip= 84, header=T) the # 84, for 84 lines skipped needs to be derived from the 5th line of the

mfrow and centering plots when there's an odd number
Let me start with an example: par(mfrow=c(2,3)) for (i in 1:5){ x = rnorm(100) y = .5*x + rnorm(100, 0, sqrt(1-.5^2)) plot(x,y) } Note that there's five plots and six spaces for those plots via mfrow, leaving one row empty. Is there a way to have the bottom two plots centered? I think it looks weird to have them left-justified. Thanks in advance for the help! -- Dustin Fife PhD

[LLVMdev] compile error when using overloaded = operator of DenseMap
Hi, I am trying to implement Available Expressions data flow analysis. I created the following class (I am giving here code snippet.): namespace { typedef DenseMap<Expression, uint32_t> DMTy; //Expression is a class I defined. struct DataFlowValue { DMTy ExprMap; llvm::BitVector* DFV; // Functions operating on the data // bool operator==(const DataFlowValue V) const;

Long lines with Sweave
I have used Sweave a lot the latest year, but never really used any long function calls. If I have code which look like this ------------------------------------------------------------- gof <- benthic.flux(ID="Gulf of Finland", meas.conc=conc, bw.conc=bw.conc, time=times,

plotting multiple variables in 1 bar graph
I'd greatly appreciate your help in making a bar graph with multiple variables plotted on it. All the help sites I've seen so far only plot 1 variable on the y-axis Data set: I have 6 sites, each measured 5 times over the past year. During each sampling time, I counted the occurrences of different benthic components (coral, dead coral, sand, etc.) over 5 transects in each site site

any DCCA function in R?
Dear members, I am performing multivariate analysis on marine benthic populations using R. At first glance I found ca and VEGANO packages to be the suitable for the task, but neither has incorporated Detrended Canonical Correspondence Analysis (DCCA), which is just the method I want to apply on my data. I've looked for alternative packages containing the method, but my suspicion is that

Adding an MT9234ZBA-USB modem to CentOS6.3
How, exactly, does CentOS-6.3 with udev recognize an USB modem when it is plugged in. How is it indicated? What other configuration is required? I can find the modem in /sys/class/tty and I can get the attributes using udevadm but I do not see anything in ps that refers to the modem device. -- *** E-Mail is NOT a SECURE channel *** James B. Rsync time syncing problem
Hi All, I hope someone can help me. We use Rsync to transfer files to and from our Australian and US server and we are experiencing files being overwritten and a few files disappearing (their contents disappear). I have setup ntp on each machine pointing to the same ntp server and set the hwclock to utc. We have found that the files on the US server are x:xx:01 secs and the AU server is

Array as time series?
Dear R-helpers, I have 4-dimensional atmospheric data (x,y,z,t), which I want to analyse on spatio-temporal diversities. As far as I understand there only exists the possibility to construct time series as two-dimensional matrices (mts). For the moment, I hold it in different objects: 1. a four-dimensional array for the spatial related analyses 2. a two-dimensional mts timeserie, which was

Current version of R, 4.4.0 and patch to correct the bug fix related to the RStudio viewer pane on Windows systems
Do you receive RDS objects from unknown (untrusted) sources? ?? If not - the security issue is a non-issue as I understand it. Current version of R, 4.4.0 and patch to correct the bug fix related to the RStudio viewer pane on Windows systems
I help to coordinate the USEPA's R user group. We have over 500 members and our security officer has required us to update to R version 4.4.0 because of the security vulnerability to versions prior. However, we cannot download the patched version because it does not have a signed certificate and Microsoft Defender won't allow us to install it. Most of our users rely on the RStudio

Assign references
Folks, I've run into trouble while writing functions that I hope will create and modify a dataframe or two. To that end I've written a toy function that simply sets a couple of variables (well, tries but fails). Searching the archives, Thomas Lumley recently explained the <<- operator, showing that it was necessary for x and y to exist prior to the function call, but I haven't

Calculation of group summaries
I know R has a steep learning curve, but from where I stand the slope looks like a sheer cliff. I'm pawing through the available docs and have come across examples which come close to what I want but are proving difficult for me to modify for my use. Calculating simple group means is fairly straight forward: data(PlantGrowth) attach(PlantGrowth) stack(mean(unstack(PlantGrowth)))

I'm interested in the *best* way to set particular permissions on the machine I am rsync'ing content to. creating function bodies using body()
I'm having trouble figuring out how to create a function using "body<-" (). The help file for body() says that the argument should be a list of R expressions. However if I try that I get an error: > tmpfun <- function(a, b=2){} > body(tmpfun) <- list(expression(z <- a + b),expression(z^2)) Error in as.function.default(c(formals(f), value), envir) :
