how to add file-based disk space to a guest
hi there, I'm following these documentations to add a file-based disk volume to a KVM guest under Centos 6.0 : http://docs.redhat.com/docs/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Linux/6/html/Virtualization/chap-Virtualization-Storage_Volumes.html as instructed, I created a "pool" then a "volume", file-based, e.g : mkdir /mnt/raid/kvm_pool1 virsh # pool-define-as pool1 dir - - - -

KVM, virsh attach-disk problems
Greetings, list! I hope you forgive cross-posting - I only now found this list. I am in the process of configuring a KVM stack of about 8 vms. Mostly I am concerned about performance, as there will be a lot of I/O. My last problem is this: I try to add a fresh, unformatted disk partition to a KVM guest. I follow the directions given here:

It is. On the host I write:

RHEL 5.2 Xen Kernel doesn''t detect all amount of physical memory
Hello All, Does anyone know what is the current status of RHEL 5.2 x86_64 with respect to the maximum amount of RAM detected by the Xen 64 bit kernel (the one that shipped with Red Hat distribution ) In the following link https://www.redhat.com/docs/manuals/enterprise/RHEL-5-manual/en-US/RHEL510/Virtualization_Guide/ch-virt-hw-support.html it states that 32GB of RAM is the maximum amount of

using shared storage with libvirt/KVM?
Hello, I've spent a few days googling and reading documentation, but I'm looking for clarification and advise on setting up KVM/libvirt with shared storage. I have 2 (for now) Ubuntu Karmic systems with KVM/virsh/virt-manager set up and running. I have a storage server that can do NFS/iSCSI/samba/ etc. I am trying to figure out the best way to set things up so that I can run

RHEL 5.2 i386 image - Xen kernel doesn''t recognize the total amount of system memory
Hello, We have installed RHEL 5.2 Server ( i386 image ) on a machine with 64GB of RAM. When booting the default PAE kernel ( 2.6.18-92.el5PAE ) that is shipped with RHEL 5.2 installation the OS detects 64GB of RAM. But when booting the Xen kernel ( 2.6.18-92.el5xen ) the OS detects only 14GB of the total amount of available RAM. Did anyone encounter this problem before ? Is it a normal

vnc servers do not run
Hi all, I have Xen 3.0.3 installed on Debian Etch 4.0. The problem I have with it is that vncservers are not run for guest domains (also Etch), nomatter I specify vfb = [ ''type=vnc'' ], or not. Does Xen 3.0.3 support vnc frame buffers, or do I have to upgrade Xen? I know that Xen 3.1 creates vncservers with no problems. Thanks _______________________________________________

rpvm/snow packages on a cluster with dual-processor machi nes
Caveat: I've only played with this a couple of years ago... I believe you can just add each host _twice_ (or as many times as the number of CPUs at that host) to get both CPUs to work. Mounting LUNs from a SAN array - LUN mappings to devices in /dev/ - are they static?
Hi All :) I am currently involved in a project in which there is a SAN array (Sun Storagetek 2540) which exports LUNs for some servers with Centos 5.2 x86. I will be performing a migration to Centos 5.9 x86_64 in some time and am gathering needed info now :) I am trying to find the place in the OS where there is the information about LUN mappings to /dev/ devices. For example on array level I

simple question - amd64 dom0, and PVM i486 domU ?
I''ve been looking for a solution that doesn''t involve dual booting, or chrooting things to get my x86 domU to work. I have a Debian xen server on an amd64 platform. It would seem that I should be able to also install or force the install of a non-xen i486 kernel. When I recieved this server it had a manufacturer''s install of Etch with an i486 kernel. Once I have both

rpvm/snow packages on a cluster with dual-processor machines
Hi, does anybody know how to use the dual processors in the machines of a cluster? I am using R with rpvm and snow packages. I usually start pvm daemon and add host machines first, and then run R to start my computing work. But I find that only one processor in each machine is used in this way and the other one always stays idle. Is there any simple way to tell pvm to use the two processors at

problem with bridged network for a kvm guest
I'm having trouble with the bridged network setup. I'm new to kvm, but I got a window xp sp2 guest set up without trouble a few days ago. I followed the instructions in the RH virtualization guide, and all was fine until I had to reboot the host machine a few days later. Then, I lost networking altogether on the host machine. I lost track of all the things I tried, but finally got

rpvm arch check
I've trying to fix the check error in rpvm package. Right now on my Mac, I use darwinport to install PVM and I can get rpvm to pass the check using 'R -arch x86_64 CMD check'. However the default 'R CMD check' uses i386 which fails since PVM is built for x86_64 only. So is there a way to ensure proper architecture is used that matches that of the external library like PVM?

xen3 domU on xen4 dom0
Greetings! Trying to to run a xen3 domU on a xen4 dem0 I run into problems. The xen server ''XEN1''(dom0) is openSUSE-11.3 (kernel 2.6.34) and xen-4.0.1. With qemu I created an image ''M08.raw'' from the SUSE-9.3 (kernel 2.6.11) and XEN-3.0 installation CD''s. The XEN modules were included in the installation. In M08.raw/boot I configured grub/menu.lst:

virt-install HVM with url and kickstart?
I have a kickstart file created that works great for installing CentOS on PVM''s and now I want to use it for HVM''s as well. The problem is that when I attempt to run the install, it seems to ignore the kickstart and starts prompting me for all the things I already have specified in the kickstart. Any idea what I could be doing wrong? Here is the command im using to get things
