SELECT CASE in RODBC
Hi all, I have a problem with a variable created by a SELECT CASE statement. See the code below. I would like the variable "event" to be a character variabel as I want to UNION my two SELECTs - and the "event"-variable is a character variable in the first SELECT result. I have tried different ways: * used ' ' in stead of " " around the string I want as the

RODBC looping sql script
Dear R users, I am querying an Oracle database using sqlQuery() from the RODBC package. What I would like to do is embed my R Sql query in a for loop. For example suppose the data.frame "vessel" contains two columns: vessel[,1]= vessel id and vessel[,2]=permit year I am using "vessel" as an input in a SQL based function that require inputs of permit year and vessel id

RODBC, freetds, and MS SQL Server
I have a question for RODBC users out there. I have used the package with good results for some time. However, I have just switched from an OpenLink proprietary driver for MS SQL to the FreeTDS driver (I think it is MS SQL Server 2000 I'm connecting to if it matters). I was/am running them from unixODBC on a Linux Client. I think I have it set up fine since I can use "isql"

Passing dynamic sql statement to RODBC functions
Hi, Does anyone know how to pass dynamic sql statement to RODBC function "odbcQuery()" or "sqlQuery()"? eg.: under R session, I did: >library(RODBC) >channel<-odbcConnect(...) >data1<-2.5 >data2<-5.0 I want to construct the INSERT sql statement using variables "data1" and "data2" and pass this statement to odbcQuery() . Can I do this?

AW: Passing dynamic sql statement to RODBC functions
You could construct your SQL statement as a character string using paste() and pass this as an argument to sqlQuery. Maybe something like this will work for you: >data1<-2.5 >sql.statement <- paste("SELECT * FROM somewhere WHERE something=", data1, ";", sep="") >library(RODBC) >channel <- odbcConnect(...) >sqlQuery(channel, query =

Comparing snapshots?
Hi, for a backup program I have to find all differing files (including metadata) in two snapshots taken from the same subvolume. Having looked at the find-new command I thought about this process: 1. Get the two transids when the two snapshots were created. 2. Query modifications to the original subvolume between the two transids. Is the general process corrent or have I overseen

Snapper packages for Ubuntu
Hi, I''ve created snapper packages for Ubuntu, available on https://launchpad.net/~snapper/+archive/stable. For those new to snapper, it''s a tool for managing btrfs snapshots (http://en.opensuse.org/Portal:Snapper). It depends on libblocxx available from https://launchpad.net/~bjoern-esser-n/+archive/blocxx , and currently uses git source up to commit 50dec40. I''ve done

Rodbc quesion: how to reliably determine the data type?
Hello, How can I tell RODBC to scan all the records of an xls file to determine the data type? If the first n records happen to be empty Rodbc assumes a character, and any numbers are made <NA>. And if, for instance, the first n records contain numbers, and later they also contain characters, those characters become NA. Cheers!! Albert-Jan

RODBC version 1.3-0 crashes with systemtables using SQL server 2000
Dear all, I need to test for the existence of an index on a table. This cannot be done with sqlPrimaryKeys as it is not a primary key. Therefore I select directly from the systemtable of SQL-Server 2000 named sysindexes. This works well with RODBC Version 1.2-5 but not with version 1.3-0. Here is the code of the test example: sink(file = "proto.txt", append = FALSE, type =

Problem in writing a R data frame to Excel format using RODBC package
Hi Experts, I was trying to write a data frame which has a header row, from R to Excel disk file using RODBC ( RODBC_1.3-1) package. I met with an issue:- If in sqlSave(), I set a parameter "colnames=FALSE" then I get first row as header in excel file. If 'colnames=TRUE' then it gives me first 2 rows as header in excel file. xyplot, the first tick mark starts from 2 rather than 1, and also there is a NA as the final tick mark.
I am trying to plot some data, but have got some difficulties with labels on the tick marks on the x-axes. There are 20 data points. All I want to do is to plot the Loss versus Lines. When I use xyplot, the first tick mark starts from 2 rather than 1, and also there is a NA as the final tick mark. Here is the R code you code give it a try: Would any body be able to fix this, please?

Map using projection
Hi list, I have a real problem with plotting US state map. When I try to plot the northern state, there will be some blank space in the top of graph (see case 1 example), and when I plot southern states, there will be a blank space in the bottom of plot (see case 2). I spent almost 2 days to figure out a solution, but could not. Would you help me if you know what the problem is? Regards, Alireza
