Winbind Daemon fails to start, group shares no longer functioning
Hello All, I am currently having an issue with my samba PDC. I have recently updated to 3.6.5 Samba, and have made what i believe to be the correct changes in my config to account for the changes to the idmap system. My setup is as follows, SAMBA PDC on RHEL 6.2, which authenticates passwords through Kerberos, and Deals with user profiles via LDAP. I had about 25 Windows clients which were able

Bug 7892 fixed in Samba 3.5.6
Hello, I use Debian Squeeze with Samba 3.5.6. I do experience problems that might be related to those described in bug 7892 that can be found found here: https://bugzilla.samba.org/show_bug.cgi?id=7892 I could not find any information about this bug being fixed in Samba 3.5.x. In the realease notes of Samba 3.4.10 I found this: '* BUG 7892: Fix stale lock in open_file_fchmod().' As

kb2536276 causing issues with non encrypted password configuration
Many of my clients installed kb2536276 on their windows client and can no longer connect to my samba server. Their sessions don't even get logged. I upgraded to 3.5.9 on my test server with no luck. Encrypted with local authentication to the smbpassword file seems to work fine, but I need the servers running non encrypted samba to work. I'm running 3.5.6 on AIX 5.3 using PAM auth and

Share name length limit?
I just upgraded an HP-UX 11.23 IA 64 server to Samba 3.5.6, and one of the shares would not work. It showed up in testparm as valid, but nobody could connect to it. I shortened the length of the share name from 12 to 8 characters, and it now works. My pc is running Vista, and authentication is via our domain controllers. Is this a limit within Samba, or is it something being imposed by Windows?

winbind, idmap_ad and ldaps
Hello from Germany, I have a problem with the following constellation: A Samba-Fileserver - Samba 3.5.6 - running in a Windows AD as a member server using idmap_ad for the mapping the User-IDs. This all works fine as long as the LDAP-port 389 is available on the domain controllers. Now, our AD admin wants to close this and move over to LDAPS. And here is my problem. How do I configure my Samba

The Recycled PIDs Fix
** Low Priority ** Hi Volker, This is regarding your fix on recycled PIDs. I am an NCP developer from Novell and we use libsmbsharemodes library from Samba for Cross Protocols Locks between NCP, Samba and others. I have few queries regarding your fix. In your fix, you have added a new field called 'unique_id' in the server_id structure and we need to pass this in our call to samba

samba 3 - smb2 cpu usage
Hi all, At the moment we are running Debian squeeze with stock samba 3.5.6. and are testing some new samba installations from ubuntu 12.04, centos 6.4 and debian wheezy. All running in a VM on a XenServer. The samba servers are member of a 2008R2 domain, using smb1 protocol all are running fine and we get a constant 90MB/s (big file transfer) on our 1GB network. We would like to enable smb2

Sharing a caching NFS mount with samba?
I am trying to set up a caching link between two points, that can be shared with windows and *nix. In both locations, I have linux-based servers with data, which have caching NFS mounts (that is, mount -t nfs -o fsc, with cachefilesd). These mounts are working correctly and I have tested the cache locally to much success. What I have not been able to get working is sharing those mounts with

SMB throughput inquiry, Jeremy, and James' bow tie
I went to the site to subscribe again and ended up watching some of Jeremy's Google interviews. I particularly enjoyed the interview with James and the bow tie lesson at the end. :) So anyway, I recently upgraded my home network to end-to-end GbE. My clients are Windows XP SP3 w/hot fixes, and my Samba server is 3.5.6 atop vanilla kernel.org Linux 3.2.6 and Debian 6.0.6. With FDX fast

Failed join operations
I'm running a PDC on Samba 3.60. Just freshly upgraded it from Samba 3.028a with the purpose of supporting Windows 7. However though all the existing users and computers are running fine, I'm stumped trying to join a new Windows 7 machine to it. I have applied the DomainCompatibility registry fix. When I try to join a Windows 7 workstation I will get this message : The join operation

NT_STATUS_NO_MEMORY when browsing file server on Belkin modem
Hello, Can someone help me to track down the source of this problem? I'm trying to access a file server running on a Belkin modem with an attached USB drive. Judging my the quality of the firmware on the device, I'd say there's a good chance of it being buggy. But it works well enough on a Windows machine, even one running inside Virtualbox under Linux. I therefore see no reason
