Hello there Problem Description: A user opens a file and makes a change using Uni Grpahics software on the files on Samba shares. The user will save the file and it creates a .tmp file. The original file is gone. If the user saves again, the file is then saved with the correct extension and the .tmp file is gone. Any thoughts? I have two domain controllers running ubuntu (12.04 and 13.10) both with samba (4.1.6 and 4.1.7) installed and running (and with sssd on both machines to retrieve uid/gid from AD). I wish to set a share on ubuntu2 in the way so it could be accessible only from ubuntu1 (and by any user from ubuntu1, for instance by local root). My opinion: Local users should always take precedence. People should specifically refer to local users as <SambaHostName>\localuser, if that is the form the SMB client insists on sending. Tacking on default domains and/or stripping domains to/from user names and "trying them out" is playing fast and loose with user identity and is a breeding ground for potential security holes.
