cifs-utils-5.6 samba Version 4.0.0rc3 openSUSE 12.2 LAN of XP, w7 and Linux clients under Samba4 DC and s3fs fileserver Hi I am testing the possibility of migrating from nfs to cifs to serve our Linux clients. Currently we mount the samba shares, e.g. the home directory, using nfs. The test setup is that instead of: mount -t nfs hh1:/home2 /home2 -osec=rw,krb5 I changed to: mount -t cifs

Samba 3.4, Windows 7, Roaming profiles and Folder redirection
Hello, I'm quite new to Samba administration and I've inherited a working samba setup with roaming profiles however the login and logout times for users has been growing and I'm starting to think it's time do something about it. I'm thinking redirect some folders to a samba share on the network will speed up the login and logout times. Our setup has 25 Windows 7 workstations

gpo update problem
I have setup 'profiles' and 'home share' per the instructions on Samba wiki. That seemed to go fine. When I moved on to 'folder re-direction' I tried to open GPO management on my W7 client and received a "User policy could not be updated successfully . . ." on the windows CP console. Started googling the error and ran into "samba-tool ntacl

questions and avice for samba 3.6.6. PDC or samba 4.x PDC with folder redirection for win7 clients.
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hello everybody, I maintain this Samba 3.6.6 PDC with ldap backend for 45 Windows 7 clients, with 92G of data in there profiles because things like itunes and other programs keep storing data in the roaming profiles causing very long start-up and shut-down times. I would like to switch to folder redirection (GPO) but I have not found any information

adding Windows client reverse dns entries
Once again, reading here and there and I am confused. I thought the W clients (both W7 and W10) reverse dns PTR records where added by the ADDC automatically. This mornings testing (nslookup of client IP addresses) is not finding clients via their IP addresses. (Forward lookups via hostname work fine.) Do we (users of samba4) need to add each W client to our dns servers? (Grated this would

how to set folder redirection on Windows 7 with a Samba PDC
Hi, I have read that Windows 7 is using a new admx format and that it is not compatible with the old-school poledit. If I would like to stick with a Samba PDC, is there any elegant way to get Windows 7 client to obey the folder redirection(and possibly other rules) set using poledit & NTConfig.pol? I have been searching the mailing list, but there doesn't seems to be much detailed

Changes to Folder Redirection
I am having some issues that I believe might be related to folder redirection that has prompted me to review my folder redirection GPO settings. On the "Configuring Windows Profile Folder Redirections" page of the Samba WIKI I find an 'information box' that says, /"//Windows does not support dynamically-generated user home folders provided by the Samba [homes] section.

Changes to Folder Redirection
So, what is the difference between "Using Group Policy Folder Redirection" and "Using a Group Policy Preference"? Is it an either/or and _NOT both_ scenario? Clearly the ". . . Policy Preference" is editing the registry settings of each workstation with a GPO. Something the " . . . Policy Folder Redirection" does not do. Is not "Using a Group

OT? skype, AD, folder redirection
Dear all, this may be OT, but I have not found any answer to this issue elsewhere. This is a (Samba) AD setup, debian stretch, with Louis' 4.10.5 packages. I have Folder Redirection set up for AppData through group policy. Skype (the desktop app) does not appear to be saving credentials in between logins and when I move from one computer to another. Does anybody have a clue here why it would
