DOS clients problem with 3.6.22 vs 3.6.18
I have tried to upgrade our samba server from 3.6.18 to 3.6.22 but found
that our DOS clients could no longer connect (using DOS 6.22 and
Microsoft LAN Manager 2.1).
With 3.6.18 we use smb.conf setting 'min protocol = LANMAN2' and it
works great, with 3.6.22 although clients can connect ok, they cannot
obtain a directory listing. Instead the first file (sometimes misnamed)

X509v3 Subject Alternative Name in puppet generated certs...
I''m trying to split out my certificate authority and have one CA and
multiple masters, currently using round robin DNS, possibly using
HAproxy later.
Got most of the way there but tangled up in names and certificates.
When the Puppet CA generated it''s certificate the PTR record for it''s
IP pointed back to it''s domain name ("henson") and it had a CNAME

Bug#1042842: network interface names wrong in domU (>10 interfaces)
Package: xen-utils-4.17
Version: 4.17.1+2-gb773c48e36-1
Severity: important
Dear Maintainers,
On one of our domUs we discovered that the network interface names were
wrongly assigned since recreating the domU after an upgrade to bookworm.
If over 10 network interfaces are configured the mapping (dom0) vifX.10
<-> eth10 (domU) does not apply anymore.
Instead the interfaces on dom0 are

Merge data frame with mispelling characters
Hello dear R-helpers,
I'm working with R-2.15.2 on Windows 7 OS. I'm stucked with a merge of two
data frames by characters.
In each data frame I got two different list of names, that is my main-key to
be merged.
To figure out what I'm saying, I build up a modified "?merge" example, with
errors by purpose:
# Data for authors:
authors <- data.frame(

Bug, Feature, or Limitation?
Howdy--
I'm playing with different IAX softphones. I've got DIAX and IAXPHONE on
a windows (XP) machine on my network, and I'm running asterisk on a
newly loaded Fedora Core 3 machine.
I set up a separate IAX account for each phone. I was EXPECTING them
to each register seperately with asterisk....
But I am swiftly finding out, that ONLY one registers. The first one

samba-tool OU's organisational units
I am confused as with samba-tool it does practically everything and all the default methods of M$ AD are covered.
For some reason OU's seem to be missing I know OU's are very Group policy orientated but also they are simply Organisational Units.
The ability to list, create and delete OU's seems to be omitted.
Also when you add a user the destination OU parameter is missing.
Is this

e2fsck on ext3 is 10x slower than ext2
Hi.
I'm using Debian. Is this a Redhat-only list, or is it only hosted by RedHat?
I recently changed my filing systems over to ext3, but deliberately left the
forced boot check parameters alone so my system checks after 20 mounts.
I notice that the fsck takes a good ten times longer than under ext2, to
perform the cleanly unmounted check. (On the occasion where I did unmount
dirtily, the

Limit dirs/filenames to old 8.3 DOS convention
Hello all,
after endless searching for days you might be able to help.
In short: Is there a way to get Samba accept only 8.3 filenames and directory names on a share?
The problem: From a windows client a user should be able to save files on a destination (samba share) which aren't longer than the old 8.3 dos convention.
This is a requirement for a system behind it, which can only deal

Long filenames and 8.3 conversion
Hello List,
Can anyone please help explain how Samba handles long
filename conversion to DOS 8.3 tilde format?
I have a client with a Windows app that works great when using
8.3 type filenames. When an attempt to use long filenames is
made, the files are created great and the data is there. But
when the app builds the index and attempt to retrieve the data
file is made, the wrong file is

Can't get 8.3 filenames to lower the case
Hi,
I seem to have some trouble on default lowering the case on 8.3
filenames. I use the following settings but sometimes I still get a
8.3-compliant file with uppercased chars in my unix filesystem.
default case = lower
case sensitive = no
preserve case = yes
short preserve case = no
mangle case = no
mangling method = hash2
Any thoughts?
BTW. using HP/UX 11.00

2.0.0-prealpha*: Only 8.3 filenames with NT 3.51?
Hi all,
We've been using the 2.0.0 prealpha's with some success, but
now I have run into a problem which I can't seem to solve.
The client, an NT 3.51 workstation logged in to an NT 3.51 PDC,
can't create long file names on a 2.0.0 prealpha Samba server.
For example, when renaming a file from 'readme.doc' to 'readme.pqrst',
'readme.pqr' is created. In

Problem with Samba 2.2.8a-107 on SuSE 9.0 and 8.3 filenames
Hi...
I noticed a bug with samba 2.2.8a on my SuSE 9.0 box. I use the
UltraEdit text editor to edit my php files in a samba share. By default
this text editor places .bak files next to the changed file.
What I now noticed was this problem:
I edit a file 1234567.php and it generates a file 1234567.php.bak. I can
open and edit the 1234567.php normally.
I edit a file 123456789.php with the same

problem with all capitals 8.3 filenames
Dear list,
After having upgraded from Samba-2.2.8a to Samba-3.0.4 I have problems
getting "short preserve case = Yes" to work properly for filenames having
only capital letters when seen from NT-4.0 explorer. A mixture of lettercase
filenames and all lowercase work fine. What I see is the following:

Is there a way to avoid loading dependendent packages?
Hello R help list
I have been using the smoothScatter function within the "geneplotter"
package to make some graphs using a Sweave Rnw script called via Rscript
in a DOS/Windows batch file. The Rscript will ultimately be called by a
web service with time-out constraints, hence things need to run as
swiftly as possible.
The geneplotter package is currently loaded each time R is invoked

long filenames (8.3) issue
Hi there,
We map a Sun Microsystems (Solaris 9) drive to a Windows 2003 server.
This works fine except for the long UNIX (tm) filenames that are mapped
as truncated 8.3 filenames on the MS server. Needless to say for backup
purposes this defeats the object. I have scanned the archives but must
be looking in the wrong places because I am unable to find a solution to
this problem. Can anyone
