Samba and POSIX ACLs
Hi everybody, I know this has been discussed ad naseum, but I can't find an answer to my question precisely. My version of samba is 4.2.10. Here's my question. I have POSIX ACLs set on a directory like this: # file: . # owner: root # group: admin # flags: -s- user::rwx user:apache:rwx group::rwx group:admin:rwx mask::rwx other::r-x default:user::rwx default:user:apache:rwx

Shared Mailboxes, Per User SEEN flag and Mailing lists
Hi! Im making a small research about IMAP servers and it's features. As the subject suggests, I want make a shared mailbox, with per user \seen flag to work like a mailin-list works. The reason to use 1 shared folder is simple: Imagine 12k users sending 1KB messages each week, it will be 12+ MB of useless information. Many people told me that IMAP could do this, but now seem that it is a

not listening
Samba 2.0.6 (as distributed w/ FreeBSD 3.4 Walnut Creek CDs in ports collection) I'm trying to setup a samba server on my network. My network is not quite as simple as examples in documentation, because it has an NT server running as a PDC. I'm following the troubleshooting steps in book "teach yourself samba in 24 hrs" chapter 11 trouble shooting. I get to "step 7:

Winbind idmap question
Hi all, Back on playing winbind I first configure PAM and NSS then tried id <my_user_name> without setting for that user uidNumber. This user get UID from idmap. I set up uidNumber into LDAP tree for that user but this user still get uid from idmap rather than from uidNumber attribute. I set up another user with uidNumber into LDAP tree and after doing that I tried "id

Purging /var/mail/username ?
Dovecot is delivering mail to my ~/.mail directory wonderfully. But /var/mail/michael is growing steadily. Is it the job of Dovecot to purge this file regularly? Is there a setting somewhere for this? Thanks, Michael

Basic questions concerning mail...
Hey all, A few minutes ago, I installed Dovecot, hoping things would get clear by just looking at the relevant config files, but since they don't, I hope someone here could give me a clue... What I want to achieve is really only basic functionality. It's just for personal use, so it shouldn't get too complicated. Up til now, I have been using fetchmail to get my mail off of several

Mixing MBOX and Maildir?
Is it possible to have some folders be mbox and some be maildir format? Why you might ask? Sometime for diagnostics I have the Exim MTA archive certain messages in MBOX format and then I want to copy them into an imao folder to look at them with Thunderbird. When I used MBOX all I had to do was copy the file into a folder and it worked. So what I'd like to do is have a folder with a

mail without mta
Dear list! I'd like to know if some- one has experience with system running no mta (aka sendmail). I have single comp, not server, not lan. Yes! Sendmail is nice, but it is too big for simple tasks I have for it. My intention is to use apps small as possible. This letter gone from mutt directly to ssmtp, that processed it to my isp. (Setting option for sendmail as

Plan/Status of MBX support?
Hi, All, I've been happy user of dovocot as far. It is easy to configure, reliable and secure. Hat off to all developers who make this possible! I know dovecot is on the mailbox format front, it supports both mbox and maildir format well, and is developing and experimenting a new flexible format, dbox. But is there any plan to add mbx (i.e., indexed mbox format) support, to complete

maildir and /var/spool/mail/$USER
I was told to use dovecot because it was easier than cyrus. I just upgraded from fc1 to fc3. I am not sure what fc1 used but I think it was cyrus and it worked perfect out of the box no configurations to do. The new cyrus-imapd is not so simple so I got dovecot. I see examples saying to use mbox=~/mail:INBOX=/var/spool/mail/%u but when I try that I cannot map mail folders that reside

Not working with Windows clients where "Digitally sign communications (always)" is enabled
Samba version: 4.7.6 OS: Ubuntu 18.04.1 server Client: Windows 7 SP1 (Traditional Chinese) Problem: Normally, a client can connect to [homes] share on server. (I type \\serverIP\my_user_name and press enter, the username/password dialog pops up, I input those of my Ubuntu user, and the contents of my home dir on the server reveal.) But when Win7 is configured with this setting enabled, Computer

Relay Access Denied
Hi, I have several rails applications on a shared hosting. To avoid the server''s restriction of sending mails, I use an external SMTP. It works most of times but for some sender emails it gives an error. Net::SMTPFatalError (554 5.7.1 <sam.s.kong-Re5JQEeQqe8AvxtiuMwx3w@public.gmane.org>: Relay access denied The error happens if sender''s domain is gmail.com, yahoo.com or

Replay mail to test MTA + filtering
Hi All, My kit : Centos4.4 + Postfix + SA + ClamAV (not that its relevant) General question - Does anyone know of a product which can take a folder / mbox of mail (spam, ham, virus infected stuff, scam mail and hoaxes) and "replay" it back against a test server to determine the servers ability to filter? I have looked at some low level (IP) packet replayers, but i cant really find

Server-side mail archiving - possible dovecot lda feature?
Hi Timo, I have a question on the feasibility of adding the capability directly in dovecot LDA (or maybe this wouldn't be the correct place?) to provide a server-side mail archiving feature. What I'd like is a simple way to define a maildir, ie: vmail/archive/$user/Inbox and vmail/archive/$user/Inbox.Sent And then have the dovecot LDA deliver a copy of all mail (incoming and

Slow caching
I have just installed dovecot on a RedHat Enterprise 4 clone with exim MTA, procmail LDA and mbox format. I'm getting complaints of slow caching from a Mac user: I think there's still something very sick with [host]'s IMAP server: it just took a full five minutes to cache an attachment (350kb) in an email from [person]. In that time, I couldn't do

Getting the SMTP envelope through IMAP?
Hi, just a simple question about dovecot: The mbox file format contains the SMTP envelope sender and transmission date in a FROM ... line preceding the RFC822 mail header and body. As far as I see at the moment, the IMAP protocol does not support transmission of that SMTP envelope data in either way, but confusingly uses the term ?envelope? for a structure describing the RFC822 mail header.

Winbind idmap question
Hi Jonathan, Thank you for that, that solved the issue. Unfortunately I get another issue: on one DC id <user> gives "no such user". Adding domain (id ad.domain\\<user>) does not help. Adding the whole domain (id ad.domain.tld\\<user>) does not help more. I did checked PAM, NSS and Samba configurations, this server is using same configurations as the two working DC.
