Samba as AD member & without winbind...
Hi all, without winbind co
actually we have running samba 4.5.16 under Devuan 2.0 (Ascii) as AD
member without winbind configured. UID and GID informations coming from
NSS (nslcd -> LDAP). LDAP and AD are in sync.
After upgrade to Devuan 3.0 (Beowulf) with samba 4.9.5 this
constellation does not work anymore. Samba insists on configuring winbind.
Can I configure winbind to use

Why does this logon-script not work under Win9x ?
Hi,
i'm having a serious problem with the following logon-script.
It works under W2k, but not under W98, although W98 tells
it is running startup-script ..
First my smb.conf (only interesting parts) :
---snipp---

server string = Samba-PDC %v on %h
workgroup = WORKGROUP
encrypt passwords = yes
netbios name = 486dx66

Altering the return address , for a function with multiple return paths
Yes, indeed!
The SBCL lisp compiler (not llvm based) used to emit functions which would
return either via ret to the usual instruction after the call, or else load
the return-address from the stack, then jump 2 bytes later (which would
skip over either a nop or a short jmp at original target location). Which
one it used depended upon whether the function was doing a multi-valued
return (in which

Run Mac OS as HVM guest on Macbook Pro
I just purchased an MBP, and having relied on Xen for virtualization on my
servers for a long time now, I''d like to try setting up Mac OS as a domU on
the laptop so that I can run other VMs under Xen to have real *nix
environments at all times for non-Mac OS development. I''ve been looking
around online, but haven''t seen anything particularly recent about running

Call Quality
Hi
I am having a problem with voice quality getting
bad after about 10-15 minutes on a call. The call
starts out fine but gets very chopy after 10-15 minutes.
It seems like a buffer problem, I am using Asterisk with
a Voicetronix Openlin4 card.
Could someone shed some light on this?

Ok, we enabled the 2 users and they synced (after a restart of one
dovecot, btw).
What irritates me:
on the new server I find less files in /home/vmail than on the old server.
So something is skipped or so.
I try to compare now ..

CentOS 6 P2V alternatives?
Hello all,
This week I've tested out a few ways to do a P2V on a rather ancient CentOS
6 server, in order to move it to a Hyper-V host.
So far my tests have failed rather spectacularly.
Initially I was set on doing a simple dd-routine, but was told that the
server cannot be taken off-line as it's being used daily, so had to look for
other solutions.
The disk setup is currently as

compiling samba-4.5.3 on gentoo *failed* right now
seems to be related to heimdal issues .. it's too late here right now to
go on with that, maybe tomorrow.
browsed the gentooo bugzilla, found

Prevent the firewall from being compromised through libvirtd
Hello @ all
The libvirt-daemon compromises the packet-filtering-rules at daemon-startup, before any VM is started. To prevent this, I first
have create a hook-script which deletes existing rules, but apparently these rules are set after the hook. Removing the defined
networks was no solution either. Worst of all is, a service restart of the daemon may even completely neutralize the firewall.
