LDA vs LMTP index files
In the docs it states that LDA " ...takes mail from anMTAand delivers it
to a user's mailbox, while keeping Dovecot index files up to date." I
am wondering if LMTP also interacts with the Dovecot index files and
keeps them up to date?

LMTP: userdb lookup - user-filter with variables
I tried to use dovcots lmtp instead of dovecot-lda.
postfix has in master.cf ... dovecot-lda -f ... -d ${user} to separate
the user part from user at hostname.domain.
So lookup of "user" succeeds in userdb (LDAP) done by dovecot-lda.
I have always local addresses like to=<user at hostname.domain>
postfix/lmtp[6579]: [ID 197553 mail.info] B3CDA66A16:

Users with extra mailbox: namespace/mailbox in userdb lookup?
Hello,
We have a need for some users to have an additional folder created and
subscribed for them.
Is is possible to return an override for the default "namespace inbox"
containing the needed mailbox definitions in the userdb lookup for such
users? If so, how would the userdb lookup result be formatted?
Presumably as just one long string, but how would the setting be named

userdb lookup not possible with only userdb prefetch
Hello,
I am setting up a new server and migrating my Dovecot 1.2.9 config to
the new 2.2.9 version. There wasn't much to keep from the old version so
I had to recreate the config from scratch. Now I think I'm done but I
can't login to IMAP. The log says this:
> dovecot: auth: Error: prefetch(box@****.de,2001:****:7765,<bzAOP5QJXwAgAQpgEAXJAZyOMB1qBXdl>): userdb lookup not

Problem logging in during testing
Instructions at http://wiki2.dovecot.org/BasicConfiguration say the
next thing to test after getting IMAP and Telnet working is to create
a dummy user file with the following command:
echo "$USER:{PLAIN}password:$UID:$GID::$HOME" > users
And place it in /etc/dovecot and protect it appropriately. It was also
edited to change the plain-text password from `password' to what it

Looks like the last changes I did today just before rc1 release made it
just about unusable. This one is actually running on my servers. :)

problem in setting up proxy
Hello,
We're having difficulty with our updated cluster of dovecot servers
accessing the email storage on the NFS mounts.? It seems index files get
corrupted when 2 backend mailservers access the same account, and from
documentation setting up a director proxy in front of the backup
servers.? I'm trying to just set up a straight proxy first, which the
documents say is the first step, and

Different username for passdb and userdb
Hello
I am attempting to use an external IMAP server for authentication, on
Dovecot 2.3.16 (7e2e900c1a), running on Ubuntu 22.04.
The external server requires usernames of the format: user at domain
However, my local users, where the mail is actually drawn from, are of the
format: user (passwd file driven).
I was able to log in with just "user", and have it both authenticate

service-specific userdb affecting lmtp, quota-service
The service specific passwd-file userdb is causing quota-status and lmtp to
fail.
Using:
userdb {
args = ... /etc/dovecot/auth.d/%d/userdb.%s
}
I'm getting the following in /var/log/mail.err when I try to send/receive
mail:

OT: Central sieve management
A bit off topic, but I was wondering if anyone here has a solution for centrally managing sieve for multiple users from a custom web application? We would like to implement pigeonhole sieve on our dovecot cluster, however we need to be able to access user?s sieve configurations from a central location for troubleshooting and support purposes.
