ssd quandry
On a CentOS 6 64bit system, I added a couple prototype SAS SSDs on a HP
P411 raid controller (I believe this is a rebranded LSI megaraid with HP
firmware) and am trying to format them for best random IO performance
with something like postgresql.
so, I used the raid command tool to build a raid0 with 2 SAS SSDs

SCSI/SAS error message by mpt2sas.ko
Dear all,
actually I installed CentOS 5.4 x86_64 on 11 new Dell R710 servers. It is
required to use 5.4 to be covered by the NetApp Interoperability Matrix
for use of Snapdrive.
All systems spit out the error message
mpt2sas0: failure at
drivers/scsi/mpt2sas/mpt2sas_scsih.c:4637/_scsih_add_device()!
at boot time. In dmesg the complete SCSI initialization logging appears as
follows:

Schedule+ calendar success story
Hello,
Maybe interesting for other people googling the web:
I have Schedule+ 7.0 working under Wine 20050310 (comes with Debian
Sarge). This program is bundeled with all versions of Microsoft Office,
(mine comes from Office95) but most of the time hidden on the CD. It can
be used as a shared calendar. I copied the directory "Schedule"
directly, no setup program.
Important is, that you

OT: does the LSI 9211-8i fit into the HP N40L?
Hi again,
thanks for all the replies to the all in one with ESXi, it was
most illuminating. I will use this setup at my dayjob.
Now for a slight variation on a theme: N40L with ESXi with raw drive
passthrough, with OpenIndiana/napp-it NFS or iSCSI export of underlying
devices. This particular setup is for a home VMWare lab, using
spare hardware parts I have around.

kernel 4.9.86-30 missing mpt2sas module
Hi
I am attempting to setup Xen 4.10 with kernel 4.9.86-30 (
virt7-xen-410-testing, virt7-common-testing ) on CentOS7
After installing everything, the machine was unable to boot and hung in
dracut stating it could not find its root device.
The testsystem I use is a somewhat aged Dell M915 Blade (Quad opteron
61xx), using an MPT SAS controller for it's SAS boot drives. Stock

Now the test for the Vertex 2 Pro. This was fun.
For more explanation please see the thread "Crucial RealSSD C300 and cache

This time I made sure the device is attached via 3GBit SATA. This is also
only a short test. I''ll retest after some weeks of usage.

patch to support custom HTTP headers in download.file() and url()
The patch below adds support for custom HTTP headers in
download.file() and url().
My main motivation for this is performing basic http authentication.
Some web sites do not support embedding the credentials into the URI
itself, they only work if the username and password are sent in the
HTTP headers. In fact specifying the username and password in the URI

tcpdump?
Did the latest Centos4.x kernel break the ability to tcpdump with any
amount of traffic? Machines that used to be able to keep up now show a
few packets and stop - if you hit ^C they take a minute or so to do
anything, then show something like:
54 packets captured
18188 packets received by filter
18070 packets dropped by kernel
Before recent updates I almost never saw packets 'dropped

IP and FS mount on the other, awesome.
