updating to 6.4 broke olvwm/openwin
This morning a handful of workstations got upgraded from 6.3 to 6.4 and things seemed to be functional, until we tried to log in to one of our instrument accounts that for various reasons uses olvwm/openwin as the desktop (and no, I don't have the option of changing that at this time). The desktop appears to load correctly, and mouse-focus and clicking appears to work, but the

odd inconsistency with nfs
I'm having an interesting/odd problem with nfs (I think). We recently (Monday/Tuesday) upgraded our file server from an ancient redhat 7.3 system to a shiny new centos 6.4 system. We don't see any issues between the other centos boxes, but things get a bit weird when we start mounting on the old solaris clients. The initial symptom was that the 'tab complete' wasn't

zfs failsafe pool mismatch
I have a customer that described this issue to me in general terms. I''d like to know how to replicated it, and what the best practice is to a avoid the issue, or fix it in an accepted manner. If they kernel patch, and reboot they may get messages informing them that the pool version is down rev''d. If they act on the message and upgrade the pool version, then have to boot from

FAILSAFE preventing errors from displaying?
Used to, when I had an error in development mode, I saw a pretty stack trace in the browser and didn''t have to go the server console, and in production mode I would see the pretty 500.html error page be displayed. Since I''ve started using Rails 2.2, I no longer get either of these. I get the ugly black and white "500 Internal Server Error" message. The happens the

form_tag with remote=>true Error during failsafe response:
I am trying to find out why form_tag with remote => true is not sending an ajax response and only sending HTML. I have started a basic Rails App with two pages and am following the Railscast 205 UJS example. Every time I include:- <%= form_tag homepages_path, :method => ''get'', remote => true do %> I get from the server(WEBrick):- (Ruby 1.9.2 and Rails 3) A 500

[PATCH AUTOSEL 5.1 028/186] drm/nouveau/disp/dp: respect sink limits when selecting failsafe link configuration
From: Ben Skeggs <bskeggs at redhat.com> [ Upstream commit 13d03e9daf70dab032c03dc172e75bb98ad899c4 ] Where possible, we want the failsafe link configuration (one which won't hang the OR during modeset because of not enough bandwidth for the mode) to also be supported by the sink. This prevents "link rate unsupported by sink" messages when link training fails.

Failsafe AGI using AEL
For the mailing list archive and for anyone else interested. A few years ago we needed to automatically run a second AGI if the first AGI failed i.e. a "failsafe" setup. Mainly because I'm not a very good programmer. 8-| The code below is very similar to what we use in production. This code is also at http://pastebin.com/LBaLhdfJ for a while. "sm" stands for Switch

failsafe against "stupid" / careless users
I'm admin on a samba PDC with 150 users, and as normal users they are quit "stupid". This means that they ofte deletes something that shouldnt have been deleted. And I find it anoying to restore their files from tapebackup. So would it be possible to get samba to "move" files instead of deleting them? This way I could allocate a disk to store deleted files for a periode of

FAILSAFE error when attempting custom POST - How do I fault find for this?
Hi, I''m creating the file upload code in a C# web form to upload to my Rails app. When I start the upload I get the following error on my Rails server? Any ideas how I can fault find here? It could be the case the HTTP post I''m creating has a problem (it'' multipart, with a file upload + some form parameters) however it''s hard to tell from Rails what it is

FAILSAFE error with uploads
I''ve just upgraded a production web site with some new code to handle file uploads, using both the standard post technique and swfupload. This code was working perfectly in my development environment, and I''m not sure what I should ever start to look for. Here''s the stack dump: /!\ FAILSAFE /!\ Wed Feb 06 19:13:41 -0700 2008 Status: 500 Internal Server Error

Apple movie trailers on Centos6/Firefox
Hi all! Once again, Apple has messed with their trailers/website such that I can no longer play their trailers on Centos 6 (note that it still works fine on my two Fedora machines, F17 and F19, without any special settings. on Centos, I've long ago found that by setting the user agent to certain values I could make it work, but now that no longer helps. when I try to view a trailer all I get

500 Internal Server Error - wrong number of arguments
I am getting the following error: /!\ FAILSAFE /!\ Tue May 06 08:32:25 -0500 2008 Status: 500 Internal Server Error wrong number of arguments (2 for 0) I looked at the controller code and I am not using ruby send command or anything that looks like code that redefine rails method. The error message does not really help in pointing where the problem occurs. Any ideas on how to debug this?

Rescuing from REXML::ParseException
Hello, When I call an action with some invalid XML or JSON data a parse exception gets raised from within Rails/Ruby (REXML or ActiveSupport::JSON). The problem that I''ve got is how to handle these exceptions. In my application_controller.rb I have the following for debugging purposes: def rescue_action_in_public(exception) respond_to do |request| request.all { render :text =>

Forcing ZFS options
There are times when ZFS options can not be applied at the moment, i.e. changing desired mountpoints of active filesystems (or setting a mountpoint over a filesystem location that is currently not empty). Such attempts now bail out with messages like: cannot unmount ''/var/adm'': Device busy cannot mount ''/export'': directory is not empty and such. Is it

Connection caching?
Hey all, on the distcc mailing list, a thread about load balancing got a bit out of hand, and we started thinking about moving fsh-like connection caching into ssh itself to get rid of the overhead of starting up the python interpreter to run rsh. (Interestingly, mit's "rex", described at http://www.lcs.mit.edu/publications/pubs/pdf/MIT-LCS-TR-884.pdf, considers connection caching

remote starting dir failsafe ?
Hello, I am going to be running an: rsync -av --delete $source user@host:$destination from one system to another. The problem is, $destination is a variable given by a script, and over time, many such rsync commands with many such variables will be run. I lay awake at night wondering what would happen if someone plugged in a broken $destination, and my nightly rsync proceeded to delete
