Hard I/O lockup with EL6
I'm trying to figure out why 2 machines have a "hard I/O lock" on the HDD when
running EL6.
I have 4 identical machines, all were stable with EL5. 2 work great with EL6,
2 do not. I've checked momtherboard BIOS versions and settings, SAS controller
BIOS versions and settings, they are the same between the working and non-
working systems.
When booting a non-working system,

Doubled up RAM to 32 GB - now how to speed up a LAPP server?
Dear CentOS users,
I run a small Facebook game at a CentOS 6.3 machine
with PostgreSQL 8.4.3 + few PHP scripts + 1 Perl daemon
and even though the server worked ok,
I've suggested my users to double up the RAM
to 32 GB and they have collected money for that.
Now my problem is that I don't know, which knob
to turn and how to really use the additional memory.
Below is my top output at the

3TB External USB Drive isn't recognized
We have a 3TB external USB drive that I am trying to attach to some CentOS5
servers. I have tried an older Dell PE1950 and a newer R310 but neither one
seems to be able to read the drive. It works no problem on windows
servers/workstations and I was able to format with NTFS.
I know there are different methods for formatting large disks but this one
doesn't even seem to show up as a /dev/

Big devices and missing space
Hello,
I have a Promise EX 12-port RAID controller in my box, connected to 8
750GB disks. I have set up 2 RAID-5 devices and joined these using LVM.
This is working fine.
However, there is something that seems wrong..
(4-1) * 750 = 2250, but df reports the LVM volume as a mere 4.0T;
/dev/mapper/storage_volume-stor 4.0T 3.6T 507G 88% /storage
Shouldn't this be 4.5TB?

Xen 4.0.0 - dom0_mem differs from dom0''s memory
Hello,
I just upgraded from Xen-3.3.1 to Xen-4.0.0.
System is Gentoo, Hardware is DualCore AMD Athlon, 8GB RAM.
The kernel was upgraded from OpenSUSE 2.6.27.29-0.1.1 to Gentoo-2.6.32-xen-
r1.
The first boot failed with an OOM error during kernel/initrd load, so I
adjusted the dom0_mem option and had to increase it''s avalue from 256M to at
least 400M until the dom0 could boot.

ATA: abnormal status 0x7F on port 0xB887
Hello,
We have recently purchased two Supermicro servers, AS-1021M-T2RB
(http://www.supermicro.com/Aplus/system/1U/1021/AS-1021M-T2RV.cfm), and
have built them both with CentOS 5 operating system. They are identical,
apart from the manufacturer of the disk drives.
Kernel is: Linux version 2.6.18-8.1.6.el5

IO error after s2ram resume; device stays open
dmesg output after a resume from a suspend.
the device in question was /dev/sdb mounted on /home. after a device
failure to resume properly, the link is then reset by the kernel but
comes back as /dev/sde. /dev/sdb disappeared entirely, and is now
referred to as sde.
attempted to remount rw of sde, seemed to succeed, mount/mtab said
that it was rw now but i couldn''t write to the volume

Automounter (?) failing in CentOS 5.3
I may have asked about this before, but I can't find any records of so
doing in my saved mail (which includes almost everything I ever read
or write):
All of a sudden, I am not getting flash drives automatically mounted
in CentOS 5.3 with GNOME - they are recognized by the hardware, but
there seems to be a (new?) problem with the maps. Here's the tail end
of dmesg:

Blocking external usb storage
HI,
This is my first mail to this mailing list.I want to block external usb
storage completly on my server running on centos 5 having confidiential
data.
For that i used udev and blocked the external usb storage by creating the
udev rule mentioning any usb storage will get mounted to /dev/null so that
users cant mount as well.
But in the mean time i am getting below logs in my

Libguestfs Hangs on CentOS 7.4
Hi,
We seem to be hitting an issue where libguestfs keeps hanging. virt-resize,
guestmount etc.. never complete. If we set
LIBGUESTFS_BACKEND_SETTINGS=force_tcg it completes.
The issue starts when updating to CentOS 7.4 (CentOS 7.3 work fine). It
doesn't seem to affect all 7.4 hypervisors and the only similarity that we
have found is that they all use NVMe drives.
