aha! (was apple mail vs. v0.99)
it seems that when you say "check for new mail" in apple mail, it sends
a NOOP to the imap server to get the response. in uw, the conversation
is something like:
25 NOOP
25 OK NOOP completed
26 NOOP
* 2796 EXISTS
* 7 RECENT
26 OK NOOP completed
however, with dovecot, if it has already notified the client that new
mail has arrived, it will look something like:
* 24 EXISTS
* 2 RECENT

Bridged networking weirdness
Hi
I''ve got a (gentoo) box set up for xen, 2.6.21-xen kernel as per portage about
2 weeks ago. Already got all my guests set up and almost good to go, except
for very erratic networking issues. Networking on the domU''s does not always
work. I have set up two physical adapters, and bridged both (by use of the
modified network-bridge script from the archives) adapters for use

Print jobs hang in Samba, don't go to UNIX spooler
I have encountered a strange printing problem with Samba 2.2.4 running under
HP-UX 11i.
In the process of investigating a printing problem, I have found that Samba
has stopped passing jobs along to the UNIX lp spooler as of yesterday
afternoon.
When NT/W2K clients print to printers on my server, the jobs are accepted,
Samba
spool files are created in the spool directory defined for the printer

FIXED - Print jobs hang in Samba, don't go to UNIX spool er
OK, it's working now. I waited until the production lines
were undergoing a shift change and brought down all of Samba,
then restarted it. Printing now works just fine. I still
don't know what caused the problem, I never saw any error
messages in the [sn]mbd or client logs, even with the log
level turned turned up to 2.
Thanks very much for the time and trouble you took to think

nmbd causing very high CPU utilization
Does anyone have any idea what can cause nmbd to begin gobbling CPU?
We are running Samba 2.2.4 on HP-UX 10.20, having upgraded from Samba
2.0.10 about a month ago. Our clients are a mixture of NT 4.0 and Win2K.
Today, we have begun to see widespread client drive disconnections, and
nmbd is averaging 60%+ CPU usage with peaks up to 100%. We have heard
reports of network problems at our site

FW: Strange locking errors with LabView under Samba 2.2.7 and HP-UX 11.11
I've had the chance to give 2.2.7a a try, with no change in behavior.
LabView still takes several minutes to load, and disk utilization shoots way
up.
Just to see what would happen, I tried Samba 2.2.5 and got the same results.
I then dropped back to 2.2.4, and everything works fine. LabView loads in
about 12 seconds, disk utilization stays low during the load, no locking
errors appear in

Strange locking errors with LabView under Samba 2.2.7 and HP-UX 1 1.11
Hello All,
I recently upgraded one of my HP-UX servers from Samba 2.2.4 to 2.2.7.
Since that time, I have noticed that disk activity on the file system where
the Samba var directory is kept seems to be higher than I would expect. We
have now begun to experience a problem with PC clients running National
Instruments' LabView software, installed on a Samba share. When any PC
client tries to

HEADSUP: apm(4) driver synced with current
In order to support the eventual MFC of a limited and experimental acpi(4)
driver from -CURRENT, I have merged a few changes from -CURRENT to -STABLE
including:
- Power management interface (subr_power.c)
- pmtimer(4) driver. Unlike -CURRENT this driver does not require
'device pmtimer' in the kernel config so that existing kernel configs
do not have to be changed.

AC-97 problem between RELENG_4_8 and RELENG_4
Sorry if this is a known problem...
I've been tracking RELENG_4 on my Toshiba laptop for a while now; a
couple of months ago (not sure when) my sound stopped working. More
specifically, when it gets to the pcm probe, the boot hangs. I
dual-boot with WinXP and figured that somehow XP had hosed the
hardware, so I wrote it off.
Today, I made world with RELENG_4_8, and voila, my sound's

kmem_malloc crash with 4.8
Hi. I've recently borrowed a SuperMicro 6013P-8 from a vendor
for the purposes of testing it to see if FreeBSD and these machines will
make a good replacements for our current flock of 11 Netra T1s running
solaris. Things are going very well with the tests, with the glaring
exception of the following crash:
While doing some significant disk operations: du, deleting a different

Re: +AFs-Asterisk-Users+AF0- RE: +AFs-Asterisk-Users+AF0- Multi-line, multi-registration phones
Here is an example of a couple of macros that help me where I have a SOHO with a
home phone line and a work phone line. If I pick up line 2 my work line I would
prefer the call I make to go out my office phone line same with if I pick up
line 1 my home phone line I would prefer it go out my home line but want it to
roll if needed. So with this little macro it is possible for that to happen.

FW: Print jobs hang in Samba, don't go to UNIX spooler
I hate to follow up on my own post, but here's an additional
bit of info: I've tried changing the "print command" setting
in smb.conf to log the command and parameters when a job is
printed. However, no output is ever logged; it's acting as if
the print job is being spooled but the print command isn't
being executed. The print command I added is:
print command = echo

boxplot ranked x labels
Dear R users,
x-values (EI) = Adw, EG1, LA1, Ad1, LA2, LA3...(14 levels, insect
stages)
y-valus = antpop
within the boxplot function x-values are ordered alphabetically
Idea: x-values ranked by list order (insect stage: Egg stage 1 is
followed by Larvae 1 and not by Egg stage 2 as it would be in an
alphabetically order)
Problems with the order(tapply()) function: variable lengths

[PATCH] Make ida(4) MPSAFE and a host of other fixes
ida(4) is a driver for older Compaq RAID adapters (PCI and EISA). It is one
of the few remaining non-MPSAFE storage drivers. I have a patch to add
locking to it, but while doing that I fixed several other issues including
incorrect bus_dma support (it didn't handle deferred callbacks and EINPROGRESS
at all). It also did not pre-allocate dma maps but attempted to create them
on the fly

skipping non-regular file
Hello,
When using rsync 2.4.6 on a linux machine to copy a complete web directory
(rescursively) on an other linux machine on my local network.
For one file I got : skipping non-regular file www/svg_mysql/mysql.sock
This file got the "s" flag set (and I suppose that is the problem).
Anybody can tell me which option should I use to also in the syntax of the
rsync command to copy this

Detangling the ppbus/ppc interrupt stuff..
So I have a patch to try and straighten out the ppbus/ppc interrupt stuff a
bit. Rather than passing IRQ numbers around as ivars, etc., ppc is smart
enough to let child devices ask for SYS_RES_IRQ rid 0 and let them use its
assigned IRQ resource. It then uses an interrupt event to mange the list of
child interrupt handlers which it invokes from its own interrupt handler. I
don't

Thanks for the reply.
Yes, it installed fine and does a belly up after the splash screen. From a
new ~/.wine folder, I ran
