2 Linux boxes, failover, & 1 EXT3 RAID unit
Hello, Setup: ------ I have two RedHat 7.2 (2.4.9-31) boxes that are attached to one external RAID unit. Both boxes are able to see the RAID unit as /dev/sdb1, but only one box mounts (cat /proc/mounts yields: /dev/sdb1 /nas ext3 rw 0 0) the unit at any give time. The other box listens, via heartbeat (linux-ha), waiting to mount the RAID unit, should it''s sibling crash (actually,

Delete file on destination only if source was delete at least X days before.
Hello everybody, I've been looking for a way to use rsync with the --del option but checking the data of the file as well. What I'm after is a way to backup NAS1 to NAS2, literally copying everything, but asking rsync not to delete data on NAS2 not present on NAS1 if the source was removed less than e.g. 60 days ago. Perhaps a cross checking between the file/dir date and the system

[SUMMARY] 2 Linux boxes, failover, & 1 EXT3 RAID
Hello, Many warm thank yous to Bill Rugolsky Jr. and Stephen Tweedie for their help on this one. Both pointed out that since the file system is journaled, if the primary box (nas1) were to crash, the secondary box should mount the ext3 file system without any problems. Depending on the nature of the journal (metadata journaling and/or data journaling), we may have little or no data loss. Bill

Fwd: Can Samba just store ACL information (without interpreting it) without AD?
Hi, I read several articles on the internet, but I fail to understand how ACL storage technically works. Of course in almost any case, ACL should not only be stored but also evaluated, and for this this Samba server needs to be a member of the AD domain. I think I understand this, but I have a different use case. I hope someone can help and possibly has a link or such. I have a samba instance

Hello, I have to migrate 3 server based on debian from physical to Xen (fully virtualized). For doing this I use clonezilla. With vmware no problem, but when I restore image in Xen I have the problem that the HVM BIOS of CentOS 5.3 cannot boot from SCSI device (sda in my situation). If I set the virtual disk like hda no problem but the original disk was sda and I need to boot from sda. How can

Patch for dovecot 1.2.16 (and .17) for vpopmail module
Hi Timo, I love dovecot but I love also vpopmail and its functions for manage user limits (via vmoduser). Unfortunately in dovecot 1.2.x auth default set to use "vpopmail" is unable to apply this limits. Only if used with checkpassword limits works fine but in the dovecot.log only user (without @domain) is logged. So, based on the code of dovecot 2.0, I have created this very

"service_count = 0" for "service dict" (High-performance mode)
Hi, I'm running dovecot 2.1.17 with "Login processes" in "High-performance mode" as explained here: service imap-login { service_count = 1 http://wiki2.dovecot.org/LoginProcess but i thinks I should also set "service dict" in high-performance mode since sometimes the number of dict processes reach the limit of 100 (from default_process_limit=100) and I

Upgrade from 2.1.13 to 2.1.14 and load doubled
Hi, during the weekend I upgrade my mail servers from dovecot 2.1.13 to dovecot 2.1.14 (and rebuild dovecot-2.1-pigeonhole-0.3.3). After upgrade all works fine, but today the load avarage un MXs is doubled. Mailboxes are in Maildir/ on NFS and I'm using dovecot as LDA and dict quota only for quota usage. May be a problem with the new version? This is my configuration: $ ./configure

"Disable non webmail IMAP access" in vpopmail and Dovecot
Hello, i'm using in my installation qmail+vpopmail and now I have migrated from courier-imap to dovecot. Dovecot is very much faster with large mailbox than courier-imap. But I have a problem. vpopmail has a feature that allows you to "Disable non webmail IMAP access", many webmail using imap as if they were, and they are, a client IMAP. vpopmail give me the ability to
