XKB: Failed to compile keymap
I had to stop using the fglrx video driver from ELRepo, which isn't supported with CentOS 6.4. Now I can't start X; I get the following: > (II) [KMS] Kernel modesetting enabled. > The XKEYBOARD keymap compiler (xkbcomp) reports: > Error: Cannot open "/tmp/server-0.xkm" to write keyboard > description > Exiting > The XKEYBOARD

how best to rollback from a yum update?
Suppose I want to upgrade a bunch of packages on a system, but in case the upgrade produces unexpected, undesired results, I want to be able to rollback the system to its original state. What is the best way to do that? Often, I won't have, or be able to find, packages for the current installed versions. I.e. If I haven't upgraded postgres for 2 years, it may be that I can no longer

Centos 6.2 x64 after GRUB menu, black screen with blinking cursor
Dear CentOS users, I installed CentOS 6.2 x64 in a Sun Fire X4450 machine, it has 4 disks and I configured them to be a single volume (no RAID). The installer sees the volume perfectly, its 570Gb. I created two ext3 partitions, /dev/sda1 and /dev/sda2. In the logs I see they are formated correctly. All the files are installed. Then when I reboot, I get to the GRUB menu. Choose the first and only

skype not starting anymore, prelink issue?
Hello there! I was running skype 4.1.0.20 on my 64-bit laptop for weeks (installed in /opt, from an official skype binary archive, plus few 32-bit stuff to get it working), when suddenly it stopped working, no way to start it: $ skype Fatal: QWidget: Must construct a QApplication before a QPaintDevice Aborted A quick search on the Internet brought some possible solution, basically

RPM file download
I see a package "x246-0.120-5.20120303.el6 (i686)" available in my Add/Remove Software tool. I can't find said package in any of the repos I've searched through. Can anyone point me to a link where I can download that package to my local repo? -- _ ?v? /(_)\ ^ ^ Mark LaPierre Registerd Linux user No #267004 https://linuxcounter.net/ ****

copy/paste centos 6
I had to update all these packages on CentOS 6 for a project. Everything works great on CentOS 6 - except - Copy/Paste between applications. Anyone - know which application below might control that function? Example I cannot have firefox running and copy and paste text into thunderbird. Both applications - actually all applications work - I just cant copy/paste. I'm thinking I did not

CentOS 7, Xeon CPUs, not booting
This is happening on anything other than plain vanilla Dell servers. One R730, with dual Tesla cards, one R420, with a fibre card for a RAID device, it never switches root. All these systems have Xeons, not AMD CPUs. We've had this with every one of the 327 kernels. In addition, it seems to happen also with the 229.20.1; the 229.14.1 has no such problem. >From the rdsosreport: starting

CentOS 7, 327 kernel still crashing
I've just added the following to the CentOS bugtracker for CentOS-7 0009860. I admit to not being sure if it's the same issue, or a separate one, but this and other Dell servers - I *think* they're all R420's, but I could be wrong, just all do the same thing on boot. ***************** I've just updated a CentOS 7 server to the latest kernel, vmlinuz-3.10.0-327.4.5.el7.x86_64,

Odd kernel panic, repeatable
I had an old server die; we had another, same model, sitting around lightly used, so I did what I've done before: swap the RAID card into that, swap the drives, even putting them in the same bays as the dead one, and boot. Nope. 100% of the time, when it hits switching roots, it kernel panics. Adding rdshell to the kernel line does nothing, I get no grub rdshell. Booting from a flash

CentOS LiveCD on USB
I have been following these instructions: https://www.centos.org/forums/viewtopic.php?t=501 to put a bunch of utilities (Clonezilla, SystemRescue, CentOS netinstall/rescue, etc.) on a single USB key. It works great for everything (including Ubuntu Live) except the CentOS 6.4 LiveCD. (You can see my postings at the bottom of the forum.) When booting the LiveCD, I got: Kernel panic - not syncing:

CentOS 6.x, kernel-2.6.32-220.7.1, EC2 and drive enumeration
Hi all, Is anyone successfully running/has succesfully upgraded to 2.6.32-220 from, say, 2.6.32-71.29.1? (i.e. done a normal run-of-the-mill yum update on, say a 6.0 instance all the way up cleanly to 6.2? Reason I ask is that booting into -220 (and I think also into -131 as well) results in a kernel panic for me. Some digging around and the new kernel seems to be enumerating the drives with the

intel_iommu=on => No root device found
Hi all, for some reaseon, my message wasn't published. Second try, this time without the giant attachment. I have an Intel server (SR2600URBRPR) in front of me. The disks in my server are connected via PCI card (Adaptec RAID 3405). Now I would like to passthrough a PCI-E graphics card to a KVM guest. As this requires Intel VT-d, I configured the following options in the BIOS: Intel VT for

Strange Fedora Booting problem: can not mount "LABEL=*"partitions
Hi, Stephen and Jeff, Thanks. But the problem got debugged&fixed, the answer was post on fedora-list about 2 weeks ago. The problem is: the /etc/blkid.tab file works as an old unappropriate disk partitions cache for fsck|blkid commands when stystem image is installed to a different arch (scsi->ide) machine, the old cache will mislead fsck|blkid at the first run and only the first run,

[Bridge] Re: Bridge Digest, Vol 31, Issue 6
Hello You must add first: vlan (tagged) to eth2 eth2 interface is not tagged by default and not know vlan-s . It is like a cisco if you have 24 ports in cisco by default all ports are in vlan1. if you want to do trunk (with vlans) you myst add (vlans) to this ports (tagged or untagged) So you can compare that all interfaces in linux by default are in one vlan(but not tagged). Acer Aspire One 522
Hello: I've prepared information on the Acer Aspire One 522 netbook which I think is now ready to be added to the laptops section, http://wiki.centos.org/HowTos/Laptops . I think that this model is different enough from the "old" Acer Aspire One that is should appear separately under the "Acer" heading. There are now over 20 different models called Acer Aspire One,
