Vista performance (uggh)
Issue: Vista reads slowly from a samba server. This appears to pop up
periodically here and elsewhere.
My samba.conf file has:
[homes]
...
vfs objects = readahead
As suggested elsewhere.
Writes are approximately 17-18MB/s which is acceptable. Reads are in
the 8MB/s range which is appalingly slow. Using linux smbclient and
windows XP clients I can read at 25+MB/s. I've enabled vfs

SMART errors Hardware_ECC_Recovered and Raw_Read_Error_Rate
Hi All,
Im seeing these errors (below) between 2 and 40 times a day,
for the last year (or more if i had the older logs) in
/var/log/messages.
The values consistently toggle between 4 or so values,
drifting up and down but never outside the mean +-2
/dev/hda sits around 21 to 38 degrees (according to smartctl)
Does anyone know *how* serious they are? I cant find much on
the web other than

Problem with internal traffic
Have 4 harddrives hde,hdg etc all of these drives are mounted in samba. When i copy file from one drive to another i notice that server sends the file to my computer and then back to itself (into the right place). The file will be copied but doing so it will eat half of my network bandwith.
Is it possible to aviod this?

Re: Problems with ext3 fs
Hi,
I have read this thread and want to say that I have expirienced the same
problem.
Once, when I was loged in, one of my filesystems ( root filesystem :( )
became read-only with the same symptoms.
But results was more tragic. Almost in each directory avg. 10% of files
had incorrect attributes, owner, links, etc.
But filenames was correct. So, I was obliged to re-create root
filesystem :(

acard 865 corruption issues
Hi Andre, ext3 folk,
It would be really great if you could help me out here, I'm not sure if
this is a hardware issue, a driver issue, an ext3 issue or some
combination of them...
I have a KT133A motherboard with an on-board promise controller, and an
ACARD ATP865 in a PCI slot. I'm running 2.4.19-ac4 with the lvm 1.0.5
patches.
The acard has two drives, hde and hdg attached to it, both

32E (64bit) VMX keyboard is out of control, if given an addition ''hde''
Hi,
This issue only happens on my IA32E VMX domain. IA32 VMX domain is okay.
I am trying VBD disk in IA32E VMX domain. I used following disk configuration to create an IA32E VMX domain.
disk = [ ''file:/mnt/disk1.img,hda,w'', ''file:/mnt/disk2.img,hde,w'' ]
After creating VMX, its keyboard can not be used properly. For example, if pressing

My server won't boot (grub looping - stage2)
Hi,
This morning one of my servers (centos 4.5) refused to boot. The console
shows a lopp message grub loading stage2...
I've been able to boot from the install CD choosing the rescue option. I
can chroot /mnt/sysimage with no problems and even started the services
(network, mysql , httpd etc).
How can I solve this?
I've followed the manual (

Unable to figure out extlinux
OK, been perusing the archives and Google, but can't find what I want.
I'm building up a 512 MB compact flash using the CLFS directions to
build the filesystem. That works great, but I would like to use extlinux
to make the cflash bootable on my little SBC. However, to date, no dice.
Attached is my extlinux.conf file and the steps I have used to make this
work.
Initially I tried to

cdrom_pc_intr: The drive appears confused
Hello,
this morning my centos 5 server (2.6.18-53.1.4.el5) failed on the dvd

There is also an harddisc as primary master connected on this
controller. This harddisc is the only device in

Installing CentOS 2.1 on ICH7R controller
I'm trying to install CentOS 2.1 on SATA drive that lives on ICH7R
controller. I have the controller setup in BIOS to "compatibility"
mode, which means it should look just like regular IDE controller to
the OS. In this mode, ide0 and ide1 are PATA controllers, and 4 SATA
ports are mapped to ide2 and ide3.
If I boot from the 2.1 installation CD, all the drives are detected

Drive recovery?
I have a CentOS 5.6 system (recently installed) that, for some
reason, has decided to mangle one of its drives, specifically /dev/hde1
... No errors anywhere, just rebooted the machine over the weekend and
it's gone. Up till the reboot, the drive was fine, I was writing to it
without a problem.
fdisk tells me:
----------
# fdisk -l /dev/hde
Disk /dev/hde: 160.0 GB, 160041885696

RH kernels and syslinux
Sir or Madam,
I am in a new project writing software for
embedded apps. We use a single board computer
consisting of (a) linux (b) syslinux boot loader
(c) compact flash file system (d) x86 processor.
(see www.embeddedx86.com) (e) other HW and SW.
Using vendor provided files, I can easily prepare
a compact flash (CF) system which boots 2.4.23
linux just fine. I can telnet in and so on and
so

Software RAID on Centos 4 - new issue
OK, I have managed to get software RAID 1 running on my wonderful Proliant
server but now have two challenges:
1) Fresh after an OS install and reboot, the RAID array starts to do its
stuff but straight away (as part of the boot messages) I am told that the
second disk is 'not ready for command' and the system hangs as soon as
resyncing starts. I think this is fixed by adding an hdparm

How HVM domain distingush ioemu disk and VBD disk
Hi,
From cset 10921, ioemu: prefix is removed from disk config in /etc/xen/xmexample.hvm. Now HVM VBD driver is available, this thus raises a question: how would HVM domain know if one disk is a qemu-dm disk or a VBD disk?
From current implementation, qemu-dm will recognize disk had, hdb, hdc, hdd, and VBD drive can recognize all disk (had~hdd, hde, hdf ...) . So the result is: qemu-dm will
