getting the user name
Hi I am new to ruby and trying to obtain the user name in the login index.rhtml where I could display "You have logged in [user name]" How could I do this? find IP address of device on network based on MAC address
I have a device on my network that is not DHCP and I dont know the IP address of it and it has not method of finding it or changing it unless you know the IP address (setable by browser). Is there a way on linux, based on MAC address, to get the IP of the unit? Thanks, Jerry

Possible to use attr_reader/writer in model?
I have some properties that I want setable externally, but readable only internally. I''ve played around with attr_writer (and attr_reader separately) but can''t figure out how to get either to work. I can do what I want using attr_accessor, or just straight out defining the prop setter method. Anybody know how to use attr_writer or attr_reader with a model? You da man, Joe

Calender Script?
I have been trying to get one of the calender javascripts to work with the <%= form.text_field. So when the user pick the date it updates the time fields? (like in normal reservation system where you pick up the date and time from the calender and when user pick the selection it updates the field) but I could not get this to work. Does anyone have got something similar to work? or could

webrick server slow or does not connect
hi, In login_controller.rb when I do the fallowing code it works fine before_filter :authorize, :except => :login but I want to do the fallowing when creating the user so the authorization is not checked before_filter :authorize, :except => :login, :except => :create_user but when I do this webrick server appear to be slow or not connected and take lot of time to load? Could someone

File reading.
Hi all, Appologies for the rather basic IO question but I am rather new to R... Migrated from IDL/Matlab recently. [Bridge] two fields are missing in brctl output when using /sys

R-beta: auto save
I'm just about to put an autosave feature into R as per requests by Peter and Kurt. My current thinking is that it should be an option so that it is setable (in the profile if you want). One simply specifies the number of commands that are executed between calls to save. It won't be incremental; I'll just dump the output of ls(). I think that the file name should not be .RData but

New password echoes on Sol8
I tried replacing readpassphrase() for v2.9.9p2 on Sol8 with a different version that just calls getpassphrase(). It appears to solve the echo problem when the user tries to login in interactive mode and needs to change their password. Can anyone else try this with v2.9.9p2 on Solaris? [Bridge] libbridge<->sysfs interface - some bugs
Hi, I think I detected some bugs in libbridge 1.2. Probably none detected them so far because of the fallback to ioctl() whenever anything fails. On my system (user 32 bits, kernel 64 bits) the fallback doesn't work. It would be nice BTW to have a compile time option that leaves the ioctl fallback out...
