lld extra program headers
Hello all, The lld linker appears to generate extra ELF program headers and thus causes file sizes to be significantly larger than what would get with ld.gold or ld.bfd. # readelf -l test.bfd Elf file type is EXEC (Executable file) Entry point 0x4000b0 There are 2 program headers, starting at offset 64 Program Headers: Type Offset VirtAddr PhysAddr

How LLD should create segments when linkerscript is used ?
I wonder what is correct way to create PT_LOADs when linkerscript is used ? Currently we create new one for each section that changes access flags. But ld seems to do different thing. Imagine we have next sections: .section .AX.1,"ax" .quad 1 .section .A.1,"a" .quad 2 .section .AW.1,"aw" .quad 3 And script: SECTIONS { . = ALIGN(CONSTANT (MAXPAGESIZE)); .AX : {

Understanding of ldd header allocation
Hello, I am currently switching to ldd from ld.bfd on a cross-platform embedded project and am facing a behaviour difference when using the same linker scripts with ld.bfd and ldd. Could anybody please give me a more reliable direction I should go with to get the same behaviour from both of the linkers? Target binary format is a 32-bit ELF executable, which is expected to consist of a single RWX

[PATCH klibc 0/4] Fix the KLIBCKERNEL{SRC,OBJ} mess
We currently use KLIBCKERNELSRC and KLIBCKERNELOBJ variables which used to be required to point to a kernel source and object directories. However the kernel headers were reorganised starting in Linux 3.7 such that that doesn't work properly. This series removes KLIBCKERNELOBJ and changes the use and documentation of KLIBCKERNELSRC to be consistent. Ben. Ben Hutchings (4): [klibc]

[PATCH klibc 1/3] Revert " Kbuild: Tell gas we don't want executable stacks"
This reverts commit 9d8d648e604026b32cad00a84ed6c29cbd157641, which broke signal handing on some architectures. On m68k and parisc, signal return depends on a trampoline that the kernel writes on the stack. On alpha, s390, and sparc (32-bit), we can avoid this by providing our own function as sa_restorer, but we currently don't. Signed-off-by: Ben Hutchings <ben at decadent.org.uk>

[kvm-unit-tests PATCH v3 0/4] Update patch set
- Renamed IMAGE_BASE to LD_IMAGE_BASE_OPT. - Moved "-fcommon" to KLIBCREQFLAGS in scripts/Kbuild.klibc. - Remove "dash" warning fixes which have been upstreamed. - Conditionalize the inclusion of compiler flags by using the proper compiler name or "cc-option". - Added "-Werror" to "cc-option" to catch flags that cause warnings. - Retain

[PATCH 00/16] External building, update for 2.6.33 and multiple root devices.
The following patchset implements 3 seperate series of changes. External Building ================= Patches 1 through 8 enable to use of klibc's build system while leaving the src tree pristine (and potentially read only). Specifically: - srctree=<Sources for klibc> - objtree=<Ouput directory for klibc> - KLIBCKERNELSRC=<Kernel sources> - KLIBCKERNELOBJ=<Kernel

[PATCH 0/5] Various MIPS fixes
Hi, I noticed that klibc started crashing on 64-bit MIPS and in my quest to fix the bug I got a bit carried away and fixed a few other things as well. Here are various miscellaneous MIPS patches, although the first patch is the important one. Thanks, James *** BLURB HERE *** James Cowgill (5): mips64: compile with -mno-abicalls mips: use -Ttext-segment when linking shared library

[PATCH 1/2] chain.c32: fix bounce buffer handling
Fix breakage in the "hide" option support patch: - The code which initialized the global variable "dapa" was lost in commit 81c203f2, therefore EBIOS access did not work properly. Fixed by removing the global variable completely and moving all bounce buffer handling into read_sector() and write_sector(). - write_sector() copied data to the bounce buffer, but then

[PATCH 1/3] Fix loading of *.lkrn images from gPXE
Attempts to load *.lkrn images were failing with "Not enough memory to load specified image". These images have the su_ramdisk_max header field set to zero, and the code in core/runkernel.inc was limiting MyHighMemSize too early (before the load_high call used to load the main part of the kernel). Increased memory usage between 4.8 and 5.5
I'm running into a memory problem when trying to switch some web servers that are running centos4.8/x86_64 to centos5.5/x86_64. The new servers running centos5.5 are using a decent amount more memory than the centos4.8 servers. Here's an example from top: --- centos 5.5 --- $ uname -a Linux ws51 2.6.18-194.17.1.el5 #1 SMP Wed Sep 29 12:50:31 EDT 2010 x86_64 x86_64 x86_64 GNU/Linux

version compatibility between linux and klibc
Are there any version compatibilities between linux and klibc? I tried to compile the latest klibc (1.5.18) with the latest linux (2.6.32.15) and there is miserable compile failures. It looks like klibc wants some headers to be in include/asm (linked in my case to include/asm-x86) but they are instead in include/asm-generic (it seems all headers but one are in there). I put together this script

[klibc 00/31] klibc as a historyless patchset (updated and reorganized)
I have updated the klibc patchset based on feedback received. In particular, the patchset has been reorganized so as not to break git-bisect. Additionally, this updates the patch base to 2.6.17-git12 (d38b69689c349f35502b92e20dafb30c62d49d63) and klibc 1.4.8; the main difference on the klibc side is removal of obsolete code. [PATCH 0/6] Makefile cleanups
From: Matt Fleming <matt.fleming at linux.intel.com> This series includes a patch (PATCH 1/6) that I sent previously but I thought it was worth sending it again since the rest of the series depends on it, and it also gives a bit of context. These cleanups make it simpler to do the big switchover to ELF modules on the elflink branch because the libraries in $LIBS are now contained in one
