[patch] trivial cleanup
remove 'NFS-Root' from an error message, and get rid of the old_root check, as it's unused and fails if the target filesystem is mounted 'ro' for no good reason. --- kinit.c 2006-03-21 23:48:15.000000000 -0600 +++ kinit.c 2006-03-22 01:09:39.000000000 -0600 @@ -191,7 +191,7 @@ } } else if (!S_ISDIR(st.st_mode)) { - fprintf(stderr, "NFS-Root:

[patch] kinit cmdline handling change
Following mail advice from maximilian attems (thanks). The following patch changes 2 parts of kinit's command line parameter handling. 1) Parse command line parameters passed to kinit *before* /proc/cmdline, in order to allow overrides 2) Pass this resultant command line to the init program, rather than forcing the kinit caller to pass all /proc/cmdline parameters to the kinit call.

[PATCH] run-init: add drop_capabilities support
Building on the work in ff0a614bd724f6c4c6a5014a9955dc1bc028f336, this moves the capability code down into the run-init library, so that run-init can use it as well, via the new "-d" flag. [PATCH klibc] run-init: Add dry-run mode
initramfs-tools wants to validate the real init program before running it, as there is no way out once it has exec'd run-init. This is complicated by the increasing use of symlinks for /sbin/init and for /sbin itself. We can't simply resolve them with 'readlink -f' because any absolute symlinks will be resolved using the wrong root. Add a dry-run mode (-n option) to run-init

[PATCH] Allow the initramfs to be persisted across root changes
systemd supports switching back to the initramfs during shutdown in order to make it easier to clean up the root file system. This is desirable in order to allow us to remove keys from RAM before rebooting, making it harder to obtain confidential information by rebooting into an environment that scrapes RAM contents. --- debian/changelog | 4 +

[PATCH v2] kinit: Add drop_capabilities support.
This patch adds the ability to kinit to allow the dropping of POSIX capabilities. kinit is modified by this change, such that it understands the new kernel command line "drop_capabilities=" that specifies a comma separated list of capability names that should be dropped before switching over to the next init in the boot strap (typically on the root disk). When processing capabilities

[PATCH v3 0/2] Support drop directories directly from kinit
This patchset applies to klibc mainline. This patchset introduces the ability to kinit to execute scripts or executable files present in in the initramfs before switching over to the root filesystem. This functionality is implemented in a newly introduced run_parts() call, which calls scandir() to iterate through files which in then executes in sequence. run_parts() is also available as a

[PATCH v2 0/4] Support drop directories directly from kinit
This patchset applies to klibc mainline. This patchset introduces the ability to kinit to execute scripts or executable files present in in the initramfs before switching over to the root filesystem. It is implemented by first implementing scandir() and alphasort() as present in POSIX.1-2008 in klibc itself, and then using that as the basis for iterating and executing files via a run_scripts()

[PATCH] RFC: Running initscripts from kinit
For our platforms, we'd like to embed several different userland scripts / programs that are executed before we have mounted the root filesystem as part of the initramfs payload. Specifically, I'd like to have multiple scripts executed before do_mounts(), so I coded up this simple do_initscripts function that executes all executables found in /etc/init.d in alphabetically sorted order. [PATCH 0/8] switch_root() enhancements
On a train ride to Bruxelles, brought out my axe and directly attacked run_init(8). run_init(8) is dead, long live switch_root(8). The next run on switch_root(8) involves fdopendir, so another push for the upcoming stdio 1.6 branch. The following is boot tested with initramfs-tools, kinit(8) tests would very much be appreciated!? Michal Suchanek (1): [klibc] switch_root: Fix single file

[PATCH v1 0/2] Support dropping of capabilities from early userspace.
This patchset applies to klibc mainline. As is it will probably collide with Maximilian's recent patch to rename run-init to switch_root posted last week. To boot an untrusted environment with certain capabilities locked out, we'd like to be able to drop the capabilities up front from early userspace, before we actually transition onto the root volume. This patchset implements this by

Child thread libR.so
So I'm working on a custom front end to R, in one mode of the front end I dynamically load libR.so into a child worker thread. I'm very careful to make sure it is loaded by a single thread and loaded only once, but since it is a child thread it violates assumptions made by the stack size checking inside of R and I get innumerable errors along the lines of Error: C stack usage

arch.cmd file and init args
I don't really understand the necessity of the /arch.cmd file to be parsed before /proc/cmdline. It seems simpler to just parse the program args first before /proc/cmdline. The whole point, as far as I see, is to composite kernel params based on scripts and/or the bootloader params. It makes sense to say "arg1=a" should override (come before) any other arg1, but I see no need to

[PATCH 0/4] libguestfs cannot open disk images which are symlinks to files that contain ':' (colon) character (RHBZ#812092).
Note: This is a regression in RHEL 6.3. Please review this patch urgently. The description of the bug is here: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=812092 This patch set attempts to fix the problem conservatively, because it's a very high risk codepath and very late in the development of RHEL 6.3. The first patch reverts the behaviour of calling realpath(3) and checking for
