CONFIG_ROOT_NFS?
I''m trying to build a linux/xen kernel that will run with an NFS root,
with out much luck.
I''ve edited src/xen-3.0.2-2/linux-2.6.16-xen/.config to include
CONFIG_NFS_FS=y (was =m)
CONFIG_ROOT_NFS=y (wasn''t there)
after running "make kclean" and make "kernels" CONFIG_ROOT_NFS is gone
(though the edit to CONFIG_NFS_FS remains):

Slow with some applications
Hi.
Excuse my English.
I have a huge problem here.
I have the following scenario:
- Gentoo
- Kernel 2.6.31
- Samba 3.0.37
- OpenLDAP
- Samba + OpelLDAP as a PDC
- 600 users
- 20 groups
- 30 simultaneous users in the highest scenario
- It's a very small scenario anyway
Everything works fine, the times to copy files are fine, no delay at all!
But one application, a Delphi + Paradox

NFS error 101, again
Hi,
I've got another one... NFS error 101 with NFSROOT has been discussed a
lot, and hpa gave an answer to it which appears right. It's ENETUNREACH,
and I suspect my diskless box does not set its IP parameters right.
PXElinux is set up as follows:
label linvdr
kernel kernel-linvdr
append initrd=initrd-linvdr acpi=off root=/dev/nfs \

[klibc 14/43] Remove in-kernel nfsroot code
The in-kernel nfsroot code is obsoleted by kinit. Remove it; it
causes conflicts.

[PATCH 2.5.69 1/3] remove ipconfig support from the kernel
This patch removes IP autoconfiguration (CONFIG_IP_PNP and friends)
support from the kernel, and ensures that using NFS as the root
filesystem (CONFIG_NFS_ROOT) will no longer work.

Fwd: oops with 2.4.18 and preempt patch, on SMP + ext3 machine
I sent this report sometime ago to l-k and to the preempt-patch maintainer,
but omitted to send a copy here, where some people could have clues about
the problem - so here it is:

Hi,
When I use a kernel v.2.4.20 the pxe boot loads the pxefiles, kernel and
then stops asking for files from the server and complains about a
"Root-NFS: No NFS server available, giving up." and messages about to
insert a disk...

Strange memory stats with 2.4.13 and ext3
Hi,
My gateway/firewall/mailserver machine has been running 2.4.13 for a day
or so now. Its basically a stock Linus kernel + ext3-0.9.13 patch (for
-pre6, with the rej fixed).
I'm getting this in /proc/meminfo:

[PATCH] open files in kjounald
Hello everybody!
As I wrote in my mail the previous week ("BUG: 2.4.19pre1 & journal_thread
& open filehandles") I followed the problem a little bit further.
Here's my patch; I beg the ext3-maintainers (Stephen, Andreas, Andrew) to
have a look at it and submit it to Marcelo and Linux for inclusion.
(2.4 is for now for me more important than 2.5).

Linux 2.2.0 and Samba client not happening for me
Dudes and/or Dudettes:
HEEELLLPPP! (such a newbie statement)
I can't get my remote SMB mounts to work on my Linux box.
duke was happily running Slackware Linux 2.0.36 and Samba 1.9.18p8 .
I upgraded to Linux 2.2.0pre9 (2.2.0final), which seemed to require
upgrading to Samba 2.0.0 . (I don't remember the exact errors)
Now i can't get my NT and '95 disks to stay mounted on

[PATCH 2.5.69 3/3] Bandaids for gen_init_cpio and initramfs
Last patch for now. This gets gen_init_cpio into a state where it can
pick up a "kinit" binary from usr and stuff it into the cpio archive as
/sbin/init. This is obviously a crock, but it suffices for testing
until something sane is done about integrating klibc into the kernel
tree.
The patch also adds a bit of instrumentation to initramfs.c, to try to
help flush out bug 740.

xen-3.0.4-rc1: undefined reference to `remove_siblinginfo''
Hello,
On my x86_64 box, when compiling the xen-3.0.4-rc1, if
CONFIG_HOTPLUG_CPU is not set it produces an undefined reference to
''remove_siblinginfo'' that is used in arch/x86_64/kernel/smpboot.c
drivers/built-in.o: In function `__cpu_up'':
(.text+0x54c10): undefined reference to `remove_siblinginfo''
If CONFIG_HOTPLUG_CPU is set the compilation works fine.
