suggestion for filesystem or general performance optimization
Hi,
recently I noticed, that we have some performance issues regarding our
central samba fileserver. Red Hat EL 5.8, samba3x-3.5.10-0.109.
Doing a rsync, scp or accessing a share from a client and copy large
files (e.g. 3 GB ISO), I do get a read / write average about 60 to 90
MB/sec. So LAN and general hardware can work at max. lan speed.
But copying or syncing small files, e.g. user profiles

Suggestions? Multiple servers/storages one domain
Hi,
currently we do have one samba3x-3.5.10-0.109.el5_8 RH EL 5.8 PDC
authenticating by our central LDAP server.
This PDS also hosts the central fileserver storage for all our +- 600
users, some group shares and roaming profiles.
The clients are OS X, Win XP and Win 7. We hope to have all XP 'killed'
by end of the year.
Furthermore we do have a second stand alone samba server for some

Strange Performance Issue / concurrent clients -> very very slow
Hi,
recently I installed a new GBit connected iSCSI Storage to one of our
fileservers. Redhat EL Linux 5.7 samba3x-3.5.4-0.83.el5, kernel
2.6.18-238.19.1.el5PAE, Dell Poweredge 1750, dual Xeon.
The transfer speed is very very different, depending on the method I
use. Currently I'm the only user accessing that server and there is low
network traffic.
I know, that there are some overheads

Pittfals Windows 7 and samba 3.3.8 (centos 5.5), LDAP BE - joining domain
Hi,
recently I got my samba/ldap/pdc setup up and running with xp clients.
Server: centos 5.5, openldap-2.3.43-12 and samba3x-3.3.8.
The new challenge: adding Windows 7 Clients and upgrading to samba 3.3.x
I followed a posting from the centos forum (1) which worked so far for
the samba update breaking nothing for xp.
Than I installed a windows 7 client with the latest patches, changed the

Unable to use more than 1000 concurrent ntlm_auth processes
Hi List,
I'm running a heavily loaded squid server that uses ntlm_auth to provide NTLM authentication.
As load has increased over time, I've found the need to increase the number of ntlm_auth processes available to squid as well as the "winbind max clients" value in the smb.conf file. This has worked well up until now but seems I've hit some sort of limit.
If I keep the

You suggestion for 'big' filesystem management Best Practice?
Hi,
we plan to set up a big file storage for media files like uncompressed
movies from student film projects, dvd images etc.
It should be some sort of archive and will not bee accessed by more than
may be 5 people at the same time.
The iSCSI RAID we have is about 26TB netto and I'm again faced with the
question: How many partitions, which filesystem, which mount options etc.

Hi,
I have several samba file servers all running on fully upgraded
CentOS-5.8 boxes. They run samba3x-3.5.10-0.108.el5_8.x86_64. After
the most recent upgrade I'm seeing the following error in the logs but
only on one of the boxes.

Login batch file not working for Win7
HI
I'm running samba3x-3.5.10-0.110.el5_8.x86_64 on a fully updated
CentOS-5.8 system as PDC.
We upgraded our lab machines to Win7 over the summer
The logins work ok and the homes share is being mounted from a
separate fileserver. However the login batch command script is not
running. It's just a simple script which syncs the system time and
mounts another share.

Winbind Issues with Server 2003/2008
Good morning all,
I really hate emailing lists, but I've come to a wall that I just cant
work out how to get past at the moment, so am hoping for some community
assistance if possible.
Some background:
We are running Windows Server 2003 on all of our domain controllers, and
are in the middle of migrating to server 2008 R2. We have unix exentions
enabled (rfc2307 I believe), and manage

problem with domain and samba3x
Hi all
About 18 months ago I connected 14 new Windows 7 PCs to a Centos5.1 server
with samba3x as domain members. There are no other servers on site.
Today, I had to visit to connect up a PC in a new location. As I would
normally do I checked for Centos updates and found 35 outstanding including
samba3x 3.6.23-12.el5_11 and samba3x-client, samba3x-common, samba3x-doc,

suggestions for large filesystem server setup (n * 100 TB)
Hi,
over time the requirements and possibilities regarding filesystems
changed for our users.
currently I'm faced with the question:
What might be a good way to provide one big filesystem for a few users
which could also be enlarged; backuping the data is not the question.
Big in that context is up to couple of 100 TB may be.
O.K. I could install one hardware raid with e.g. N big drives

Filesystem labeling confusion or mess up
Hi,
I do have an iscsi storage with two raidsets. I'm logged in to the
target and get two devices: /dev/sdb and /dev/sdc.
After formatting the devices with ext4 I realised, that I had used a
wrong label, so I tried to relabel the devices.
But now I'm confused:
doing a e2label /dev/sdb or /dev/sdc returns always the same label name
for both devices.
so I did "e2label /dev/sdb

template homedir and idmap_ad
Some empirical testing shows that if I am using the idmap_ad module the
template homedir parameter in smb.conf is ignored. I would just like to
determine if this is the correct behaviour or if I am doing something wrong.
JAB.
