Latex question
Dear all,
This may not be the right place for latex questions, but I
do not know where else to ask the question.
I have two subfigures. I want the first subfigure to have a caption on
the side of it and the second subfigure
to have a caption below it.
Thank you.

how to label two figures in the same chunk independently with knitr
Dear R helpers,
I am using knitr to run analysis with R and edit my document with Latex. I
am wondering whether there is a way to include 2 or more pictures per chunk
and being able to refer them in the text independently and eventually
whether it is possible to give them different captions. Let me give you an

Page width figures in Latex
bRotheRs & sisteRs,
I am once again attempting to learn enough Latex voodoo to get something
done, and failing comically. The document "RJAuthorguide.pdf"
mentions that one can get page width figures through the use of the
"figure*" or "table* environments, but despite considerable searching
through the mail archives and reading Frank Harrell's discussion of

Hmisc labels and captions in latex.list()
I am trying to feed a list to latex to use with SWeave, and the list
comes from contents(). Since it is a list, a caption and label are
generated by latex.list - these are not overridden by setting the
parameters (such as caption='myCaption', label='myLabel').
I must clearly be missing something - is there no way to set a caption
or label with the latex() function when

Hmisc-xtable label
Dear all:
Does anybody know about label conflicts between xtable and Hmisc? I found a couple of e-mails similar to this problem but is not clear to me how to get around the label problem.
The first table(longtable below) is generated with the latex function from Hmisc but for some reason when I try to hyperlink to it,it takes me to the top of the document. The second table created with the xtable

Active Record Basics - Making it commentable
hi everyone, I hope someone can help me out with some active record
basics? I''ve been banging my head for the past 4 hours and I can''t seem
to get it to work.
I am trying to add comments to a caption (just like how one adds a
comment to a post in a blog). I seem to be able to read posts just fine
from the DB, however, I can''t use the "recordComment"

Need Help: User Defined R Functions in Sweave/Latex
Dear all,
I want to start my post by expressing my sincere gratitude for all the
help this group has given me in Sweave/Latex/R. The tools are
excellent and so is the community!
On to the question.
My Sweave code is intended to make lots of plots and create a *.pdf
document. Sweave is perfect for this. The only problem is that I find
myself using the same R code, within my Sweave input file

Adding LaTeX cross-references into Sweave plots
Hi all
I'm using Sweave and LaTeX, and love how they interact.
But here's a different interaction I'm not sure how to achieve; I
hope someone can help. I use a simple example, of course, to
demonstrate.
Suppose in my LaTeX document I have this:
Here is a linear equation:
\begin{equation}
y = -1 + 3 x

\end{equation}
This appears in the final product

Barchart in lattice - wrong order of groups, data labels on top of each other, and a legend question
Hello!
I have a question about my lattice barchart that I am trying to build
in Section 3 below. I can't figure out a couple of things:
1. When I look at the dataframe "test" that I am trying to plot, it
looks right to me (the group "Total" is always the first out of 5).
However, in the chart it is the last. Why?
2. How can I make sure the value labels (on y) are not

2 problems with latex.table (quantreg package) - reproducible
Dear all,
When using latex.table from the quantreg package, I don't seem to be able to set
table.env=FALSE: when I don't specify caption (as I think I should, when
understanding the R help rightly(?)), I get an error message, and when I
do so, of course I get one, as well.
The funny thing is, that a table is indeed produced in the first case,
so I get a nice tabular, but as I'm using

A small modification of plot.acf (patch)
In one of my scripts I used plot.acf function, but I had to modify it
a little to suit my needs. Although my modifications are minor, I
believe some people might benefit from it.
The problem: currently, in cross-correlation plots main title captions
are constructed of 2 names separated by '&' symbol. Such captions
occupy too much horizontal space and usually don't fit in plot. A

Add grid lines to levelplot
I'm using the levelplot function in the lattice package. I am plotting a
grid of cells and I want grid lines drawn between cells. I've spent a lot of
time trying different options. I've also looked at panel.levelplot. The
border parameter seems to be ignored or it doesn't mean cell border color.
The panel.levelplot calls grid.rect but forces lwd=1e-5 instead the passed

odfWeave : problems with odfInsertPlot() and odfFigureCaption()
Dear Max, dear list,
I have trouble using odfInsertPlot to insert plots outside fig=TRUE
chunks.
My goal is to dump a bunch of (relatively uninteresting, but required)
graphs from within a loop, possibly interspeded with some tables. This
is not possible within a normal fig=TRUE chunk.
odfInsertPlot() is able to insert a previously saved plot. When used in
a fig=TRUE, results=hide chunk, it

Hmisc Latex Question: column headings and Major Column Headings not properly alligned

Sweave: side by side dynamic graphs
Hi all:
I'm trying to create some side by side dynamic graphics on the same page but I am running into some problems. I am able to create side by side figures only if I import them into my PDF. see the example bellow:

\usepackage{color,cite,graphicx}% to put in axodraw
\usepackage{latexsym,amssymb,epsf}

using get() in assign()
I'm trying to rename the columns in a list of data.frames using the
following...
for(i in 1:length(filenames)) {
assign(names(get(filenames[i])), c("name", "infood", "time") ) }
R returns no errors, but the names are unchanged in the data.frames.
The original names were things like
> names(get(filenames[2]))
