freeBSD User provider
Hello,
from the doc it seems that the User type has a provider of ''pw'' for
FreeBSD. It seems the provider does not allow dupelicate, does not
allow to manage the homedir and to manage password.
in the code the duplicate uid is set so it seems the doc is out of
date on this :)
- manage home directory, i don''t really understand what is that
parameter. The

changing samba user password
Looking for a good, and secure, way to have users in a Samba AD environment
be able to change their passwords without using a Windows domain member
client or having local user or shell access to the AD system.
Web based would probably be ideal, but I don't want some huge set of
modules that do everything under the sun, just this one task.
Possible? With what?
Thanks!

remote password change, if password is expired
Hi,
we have a couple of users which "forget" to change the passwords even if
they get an reminder.
Normally we tell them to use a windows machine, where you can change
your password if it's expired.
But how can a remote user change his password if it's expired ?
Is there any secure solution for thisĀ ?

Strange LDAP add machine problem
I'm setting up a Samba/LDAP PDC (samba-3.0.13 / openldap-2.1.30) and I'm
trying to join a machine (called "melisa") to the domain. When I try to
join the domain, I type in the Administrator (which maps to root)
credentials. and after a few seconds I get a windows error that says:
The following error occurred while attempting to joing the domain

changing unix password with samba
I am running RedHat 9 and samba. I need to be able to set one password
for each user and sync them with ssh, web, unix password.
i.e. When I change samba pass, it changes unix, ftp, etc. Is this
possible with samba? I saw that it is if you are running windows and
then you can change the unix pass via samba. Is this possible when
running linux. I just want to easily administer my users.

Replicated LR goodness-of-fit tests, heterogeneity G, with loglm?
I have numerous replicated goodness-of-fit experiments (observed compared to expected counts in categories) and these
replicates are nested within a factor.
The expected counts in each cell are external (from a
scientific model being tested). The
calculations I need within each level of the nesting factor are a heterogeneity
G test, with the total G and the pooled G across replicates. Then I

rsync daemon did not chdir back after chdir in module path
Hi All
Tried to search the list but could not find anything about this.
I have a rsync daemon running with starting cwd as /usr/local/bin. then
after some io, and after all io finished, its cwd is /fs1 which is one
of the module path. now i need to umount fs1 and i can not do it. is
this a known issue or something worthy fix? not sure what else
information i need to provide.
thanks.

significance levels for partial correlations?
I've seen that this question has been asked before, in the archives,
but I haven't been able to find a workable answer. This may be a
failure to understand the statistics!
The problem is that, while I can easily get partial correlation
values out of corpcor, how do I get significance values? Surely the
significance of a partial correlation between two variables isn't the

trouble with Dir.chdir
Hi, folks
I wroted the codes below.
I have the trouble with the line start from "Dir.chdir".
When I run this code, the FTP of photos is successfuly done.
But, the display of browser is white out.
When I comment out the line start from "Dir.chdir",
the trouble doesn''t happen.
Is there anything wrong with my usage of "Dir.chdir"?

smbd/service.c:set_current_service(56) chdir (/var/ghost) failed
Hey Gang,
I have a suse 8.1 server that I have compiled samba 3.0.2 from source on.
I have it configured to authenticate against our AD. That seems to be
working fine.
getent passwd produces the results from both passwd and AD. getent group
gives me the groups + the AD groups. I was able to assign the permissions
to the folder without problems. It picked up the group from AD and
assigned it

chdir failed, but requires group permissions
Using Debian Etch package dovecot-common and dovecot-pop3d, based on
1.0.rc15-2
My home directories are set up with 770 permissions as follows:
/home/<group name>/<user name>
Using this method, users MUST be a member of the appropriate group to
access their own home directory. If they are not, they can't chdir past
/home.
This appears to kill dovecot with a
