Use of 'defineVar' and 'install' in .Call
Dear all,
[system and version information below]
I am trying to modify a C function for finding the root of an
expression. The function is to be called from R as .Call with input
parameters:
f: expression for which we will find the root
guesses: interval for the solution
stol: tolerance
rho: environment
The original functions I use are:

Pb with defineVar() example in the "Writing R Extensions" manual
Hi,
I'm wondering if this code from the "Writing R Extensions" manual
is really safe:
SEXP mkans(double x)
{
SEXP ans;
PROTECT(ans = allocVector(REALSXP, 1));
REAL(ans)[0] = x;
UNPROTECT(1);
return ans;
}
double feval(double x, SEXP f, SEXP rho)
{
defineVar(install("x"), mkans(x), rho);

Evaluating R expressions from C
I am currently puzzled by a passage in the R Extensions manual, section 5.10:
SEXP lapply(SEXP list, SEXP expr, SEXP rho)
{
R_len_t i, n = length(list);
SEXP ans;
if(!isNewList(list)) error("`list' must be a list");
if(!isEnvironment(rho)) error("`rho' should be an environment");
PROTECT(ans = allocVector(VECSXP, n));

R thread safe
Dear R-dev,
I would like to accelerate my R computation by using parallel OpenMP compilers
(e.g from Pathscale) on a 2-processor AMD server and I would like to know
whether R is a tread safe library. The main kernel of the OpenMP
parallelization is a C SEXP function that performs the computational routine in
parallel with:

Evaluating expressions from within C code
Dear R experts!
I want to evaluate expressions from within C code. For instance,
I want this code:
/* ============ -- C code -- ============== */
#include <R.h>
#include <Rinternals.h>
SEXP foo(SEXP expr, SEXP rho)
{
SEXP x;
PROTECT(x = allocVector(REALSXP, 1));
REAL(x)[0] = 1;
UNPROTECT(1);

setGeneric(); R CMD check
1. Is it always the case that when defining generic functions in
a package, the package needs to be installed as a binary package
to avoid having the generic functions in the .GlobalEnv?
2. Defining a generic function in a "non-binary" package triggers
a check warning

[PATCH] Code coverage support proof of concept
Hello,
I submit a patch for review that implements code coverage tracing in
the R interpreter.
It records the lines that are actually executed and their associated
frequency for which srcref information is available.
I perfectly understands that this patch will not make its way inside R
as it is, that they are many concerns of stability, compatibility,
maintenance and so on.
I would like to have

R_GlobalEnv
Hi,
I'm trying to access the current R global environment from
within C, using R_GlobalEnv.
In the example below, Rgui (R 1.7.0. Win2K) crashes when I try
to run assignValueToFooInR_GlobalEnv, but not when I run
assignValueToFooInRhoEnv with Rho=.GlobalEnv. Can anyone tell me why?
[ My motivation is that I want use defineVar to initialise a

Rcpp from C++
Hi Sri,
I haven't really elaborated on it having other stuff to prepare first, but as
far as I got you first assign data to a vector:
#include <R.h>
#include <Rinternals.h>
#undef R_INTERFACE_PTRS
#include <Rembedded.h>
#include "Rcpp.hpp"
#include <R_ext/Parse.h>
#include <Rinternals.h>
#include <Rdefines.h>

"Segmentation Fault - core dumped" in R 0.62.3
I am occasional getting "Segmentation Fault - core dumped" in R 0.62.3 (I think
more often then I did in 0.62.2). I have not been able to do this in any
reliably reproducible way yet, but thought I would mention the problem in case
some else can isolate it.

Calling primitive functions from C code
Does anyone have an example of calling primitive or internal functions from

I am having trouble trying to figure out how to construct the proper

call R function in c++ program
Hi all
I don't know if my message are correct in this forums.
I create a program in c++ who use statistical function. I want to execute
this function in R (in particular for use packages ade4, lattice,
bioconductor...)
Until now, my program work for simple function ("plot", "rnorm"...) but I
can't use library
My class are :

can't get names of R_env
Hi,
I'm quite knew in R, so I might not have the R specific jargon.
But here is my problem,
I'm trying to access and use variabels given by a function environment,
more specifically the rho in do_optim in src/main/optim.c
According to the documentation
http://cran.r-project.org/doc/manuals/R-ints.html#The-_0027data_0027
the envsxp is defined as a tagged pairlist.

newton method for single nonlinear equation
Hi r-users,
I would like to solve for z values using newton iteration method. I 'm not sure which part of the code is wrong since I'm not very good at programming but would like to learn. There seem to be some output but what I expected is a vector of z values. Thank you so much for any help given.

Time-measurement in milliseconds
Hi there
I'm loking for a time-measurement to measure time-differences in
milliseconds.
On my search, I only found the following:
- package "base": Sys.time()
-> only second-accuracy
- package "R.utils": System$currentTimeMillis()
-> returns integer of milliseconds, but accuracy is only whole
seconds too.
At the moment I run every bit of code to measure

is.environment, as.environment, and NULL
The r-devel (1.4) code has C implementations now of the class and
class<- functions in package methods, and also of as.environment.
The last brings up a question (it shows up in the isas-tests test
suite).
as.environment(NULL) is NULL. Seems like it has to be, since NULL is
the environment associated with package:base.
But is.environment(NULL) is FALSE, which is also fairly natural, if we
