R-alpha: is.vector of one-dimensional array
maybe we've already diskussed this before, but Kurt and I can't remember ... is.vector() of an one-dimensional array returns FALSE. this is also the behavior of Splus, but totally counter-intuitive for me ... IMO an array of dimension 1 is exactly the definition of a vector ... it also breaks our current plot.factor, which is simply a barplot(table(x)) table() returns an

R-alpha: help files of base package
[this message bounced, because it had 'help' at beginning of Subject. Now sent as "approved". -- MM] I'm not happy at all with the html and latex version of the base help files, because presenting (currently) 320 files in alphabetic order is not a good way for unexperienced users. I'm thinking about introducing a new command like \category or whatever to split the

R-alpha: data in contributed packages
I know, we've discussed this several times in the good old days days of the R-testers list :-), but the problem is still unsolved. I want to include Tibshirani's data in my port of the bootstrap package, but we still have no way of including data in a clean way. IMHO we should have a subdirectory of $RHOME/data for each library, e.g. $RHOME/data/base $RHOME/data/bootstrap Actually

R-alpha: NA in data frame not detected
NA's in a data frame are not handled properly, if the data frame was read in using read.table (but I'm not sure if that is the reason of the problems): (I'm using Debian Linux 1.3) If I read the file *************** 1 2 2 3 3 4 4 5 ? 6 6 7 7 8 8 9 *************** into R using read.table I run into troubles: R : Copyright 1997, Robert Gentleman and Ross Ihaka Version 0.49 Beta

R-alpha: system() ok -- is.R() function
Martin Your revisions to my S--R compatability code suggest that tempfile() is in R after 0.49. I don't find that to be the case. It requires code from Friedrich Leisch which still has to be added as of 0.50 alpha3. New package pixmap
A new package called `pixmap' has been released on CRAN. R-alpha: Re: missing' BB functions
Kurt The function tempfile is available based on some C code from Friedrich Leisch. The function unlink is fairly simple in unix but I haven't experimented elsewhere. In this regard, I have put together a small kernel set of functions to try to handle cross platform and R vs S issues. This is appended below and I would certainly appreciate feedback. The purpose of this kernel is so that I can

R-beta: mlbench-0.1 --- machine learning benchmark problems

minus I and minus L flags
I have been RTFM/doc/www, but I'm still lost. How does one tell R CMD INSTALL and R CMD check (both) that libraries are installed in non-usual places and so -I/APPS/include (or whatever) is necessary in CPPFLAGS and -L/APPS/lib (similarly) is necessary in LDFLAGS? I know I can hardwire them in pkg/src/Makevars, but this requires hand editing of that file by each installer (yuck!) rgentlem

I'm unable to download R from any of the CRAN mirrors. A ny sugge (PR#7823)
Friedrich, Thank you for your prompt response. Unfortunately, none of the CRAN mirrors seem to be working for me. I'm not really sure what's going on since I was able to download R about a year ago, but I recently got a new computer and needed to download it again. I'll see if my support staff here at the National Institutes of Health have any suggestions. Thanks again, Eric

Nortel 81C MSDL Trunking to Asterisk TE110P, Nortel Resetting PRI Channels
We are currently working to trunk from a Nortel 81C to an Asterisk Server 1.4 running on Red Hat Linux. We have two PRI trunks which work with the exception of the clock slips, which is causing the Nortel to reset the PRIs once a hour. Thanks for any suggestions. 81C MSDL Asterisk Digium TE110P REQ prt TYPE adan dch 10
