Version 3.0.33-3.29.el5_5 + Winbind: UNIX group as valid users
I have setup a Centos5.5 VMWare guest with Samba and Winbind for Active Directory integration, using GUI tools.
Authentication works flawlessly, with automatic home directory creation.
What I want to achieve now is using local UNIX groups to controll access to shared folders.
smb.conf global section:
workgroup = COGITANS
password server = domainserver.hq.cogitans.it
realm = HQ.COGITANS.IT

Digitially Signed Communications
Dear All,
The below are snippets of the policies that are causing connection issues for me from Windows 7 workstations, connected to a Domain, to Samba Shares :
Microsoft network client: Digitally sign communications (always) Enabled
Microsoft network client: Digitally sign communications (if server agrees) Enabled
Microsoft network server: Digitally sign communications (always)

Modify permission not available unless group permissions are set to write.
I've been wrestling with a problem on newer versions of samba with a
configuration that "used" to work in samba 3.0.33 (RedHat Enterpise 5
packages) This maybe due to changes in the may samba maps NT permissions,
but i'm not sure so I thought I would ask.
I have a samba 3.3.8 (RedHat Enterprise 5.5 Samba3x packages) and samba
3.4.4 (Redhat Enterprise 6 beta packages)

Struggling with Samba + AD member config (winbind auth failing) :(
Hello Samba List,
I am struggling with connecting samba to our AD servers. Thought it will be
easy as before but I was wrong.
DCs:
Windows Server 2012 (2x) with AD Domain Forest/Level 2003 NATIVE.
+ SBS 2003 (will be removed, migrating from SBS AD to new 2012 servers)
-standard AD schema with exchange attributes
DID NOT INSTALL UNIX attributes. This is required for SSSD. Thought i would

winbindd: socket dir
Hi List,
Hunting around Google I've found a couple of references to using "winbindd: socket dir" in smb.conf to allow multiple winbindd instances to run but can't seem to find any doco on this feature.
I have tried adding this to my smb.conf file but when I try to use ntlm_auth with this configuration any authentication fails and it returns:
ntlm_auth --username=testusr

Digitially Signed Communications [SOLVED]
Hello Shaun,
You are wellcome.
Software been evolving over the Years , i.e Samba its self has an different Support lines then RHEL Has.
i.e RHEL evolved allready to PROD version 6.4 :-) .
Most of the Distrubions today add 2 or more samba releases - i.e with or without AD

DFS queries via rpcclient to Windows 2012 Server fails
Hello,
We previously had Win2008 R2 DCs which we have begun to replace with Win2012 servers (forest is still at 2008 level however). I was able to query DFS via rpcclient but now I find that I am unable to.
I know that SMB3 was introduced in Win2012 but I believe that it should auto-negotiate earlier versions. I did however test from v4.1.9 as well, unfortunately that still fails.

Update from 3.5.10 to 3.6.23 broke cupsaddsmb
As an update to fix the badlock vulnerability I applied some updates to
our (RHEL5-based) samba printer server last night, taking it from version
0:3.5.10-0.109.el5_8 to 0:3.6.23-12.el5_11 (rpm package versions).
After this change attempts to add printer drivers with cupsaddsmb produced
errors of the form:
Running command: rpcclient localhost -N -A /tmp/cupsc7GVnF -c 'adddriver

client hangs
All,
I've exhausted myself on this issue. Our samba server has been up and
running for ages without any issues. About 6 weeks ago quite suddenly
we began having intermittent clients hangs network wide and I'm at a
loss to find the issue. The users have so named them the windows
explorer status bar of death. It has been extremely disruptive when it
happens. Looking at the logs at

NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED error. Pls help
I'm running samba3.0.23 on a fedora core 4 box. I successfully joined the
samba server into an AD and shared home directories on the fc4 box.
(Actually, the home directories on that fc4 box are mounted from a NFS
server)
I can access the top level of my home directory without any problems because
the permission is set as 755.
But I can't access directores with permissions like 700.

Read only behaviour of a file when opened two or more times.
Hello,
My samba server (version samba-3.0.33-3.39.el5_8) on CentOS 5.8 (kernel 2.6.18-308.1.1.el5) opens files as read only once it has been opened from the second time onwards. The first time the file is opened, it is possible to edit the file and save these changes. Once the file has been closed and then opened again, it is opened as a read only file and when making changes, it is not possible

Samba 3.0.33 ACL rename/delete issue
Hello,
I have noticed some ALC issues with files and directories. I use samba
server 3.0.33 on CentOS 4.8 joined to Windows 2003 domain. Everything
works fine, all users are authenticated to domain controller. My aim is
to give FULL ACCESS (open/read/write/rename/delete..) to directory
"testdir" to two users, john and mark without using groups because I
have no permissions on domain
