Sysvol Replication in Samba4
Hi,
We installed a samba4 AD controller using Gpo for a small group of users
(5 users), everything is OK.
(Samba4 beta 7 on Ubuntu 12.04)
We installed another Samba4 AD controller as a BDC of the first one with
the command "samba-tool domain join" with succes.
After checking this new installation, we saw that the sysvol share was
not replicated from the PDC and all the Policies are

Organization of Users in Samba4
Hello,
I am working on migrating from OpenLDAP using the inetOrgPerson schema to Samba4. I would like to continue to provide backwards compatibility with our existing authentication service. In OpenLDAP, users are all contained inside the People organizational unit and referenced by uid, for example:
dn: uid=myuser,ou=People,dc=example,dc=com
When using samba-tool to add a user, it places the

Name Resolve Order : parameter of smb.conf with testparm
I am writing this letter and I hope that I'll have answers about the
generation of smb.conf by the way of smb.conf.master with testparm command.
Like is described on page 5 of Samba3-HOWTO.pdf.
The situation is:
- The manual of smb.conf says that the default value of the parameter ?name
resolve order? is ?lmhosts host wins bcast?, but when I type the command

Samba4 ADC cannot edit GPO with W2K3
Hello,
I have been trying to setup a working environment with samba4-rc1 on
fedora 17 following the samba4 howto at the wiki.
DNS and ldap are internal.
Everything looks like working, I can create and edit GPOs with WinXP Pro
but with Win2K3 server I can create GPOs but I can't edit them. I cannot
see any error at the log.samba file. Win2k3 gives an error that I will

Joining samba4 as a DC to Windows Server 2012 active directory
Hello all,
I am attempting to join samba4 to my current domain which is controlled by
a Windows 2012 Active Directory Server. When following the instructions on
the official WIKI:
http://wiki.samba.org/index.php/Samba4/HOWTO/Join_a_domain_as_a_DC
I am able to do a kinit administrator, which then gives me a ticket which I
can see via klist.
The problem is that once I run the command:

(Samba4) Normal users unable to login
This is a freshly provisioned Samba 4.0.0-rc5 installation.
I provisioned the domain and created shares in the configuration file to
match an existing Samba 3.5.x installation that we're moving away from
(or at least, that's the plan...) for various reasons.
I then moved all the contents of the shares over from the old server to
the new server via rsync, including home directories and

Samba4 Winbind - is it really not possible to be sensible?
Samba3 allowed for the setting of idmaps and passdb backends to
configure how users were pulled in. This made integrating with existing
LDAP databases, other other forms of authentication easy, since Samba
could be configured to present the same UID and GID as directly from the
[insert other auth method here] system. All was good.
Unfortunately Samba4 seems to have removed much of that

Samba4 with freeradius
-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE-----
Hash: SHA1
Hi,
I have been attempting to get freeradius to play nice with samba4. It seems however, that freeradius to utilise mschap expects the ntlm_auth command to support "--request-nt-key" as an option, yet the ntlm_auth in samba4 does not contain this flag. What do i use instead, or is this support that will be added in the future.
Sincerely.

is sssd *faster* than samba4's builtin winbind?
Using samba 4.0.9 as an AD DC (no other domain servers).
Since my UIDs and GIDs have changed, I was doing cleanup:
find /srv/svn/ -xdev '(' -nouser -o -nogroup ')' -ls
I noticed this was very slow -- iostat reported only about 2tps and
50kB/s to my disks. So I timed it with nsswitch.conf users & groups set
to "files" vs. "files winbind":

Samba4 using existing DNS and LDAP
Hi,
I have been using Samba3 (and 2) for years, with an openLDAP backend for
authentication. This is working fine, my directory includes a number of
local settings for my specific needs.
Now I would like to move to Samba4.
I understand that Samba4 comes with its own DNS and LDAP servers.
By provisioning Samba4 with --dns-backend=NONE and including the
necessary to my existing DNS zone, is
