Domain problem...
Hello all, This is the first time I write to the list. Sorry about my
english...
My Debian Sarge server was working perfectly with samba and winbind as a
normal client in a Domain enviroment. I was able to share folders on my
linux machine giving rights to the domain users. Everything was working
until one day in that it crashed for some reason I don't know. I didn't

weird winbind problem
I'm setting up a samba server that should authenticate against a samba
3.0 +Ldap PDC server.
This is the situation
1) getenet passwd and getent group are ok
2) wbinfo -t -> checking the trust secret via RPC calls succeeded
3) wbinfo -g -> lists all the groups on PDC (nice!)
4) wbinfo -u -> lists all the users on PDC (nice again!)
the problem is wbinfo -a

Knowing when a user is logged in
I am looking into creating a website similar to a chat program. I know
when the user logs in. However, the user can log out any of the
following ways:
Logout link - This one is easy to handle
User closer browser window
User hits the back button
User loses his/her internt connection.
Is there a way within rails to handle the latter three user actions?
Thanks!

Session variable data validation
I''ve been using rails for about a month and I''ve been noticing that most
of my controller functions use values from my session variable. I find
that I write something like:
person = Person.find(session[:person]
if( person )
# ...
else
flash[:notice] = "unable to retrieve person"
redirect_to( :action => index )
end
It seems redundant to write similar code for

Problem with samba and XP
I had Samba setup up on a debian box with three XP\2000 clients accessing the
four samba shares but only allowing three users access to a couple of the
folders. These 3 users had dummy accounts set up on the debian box (they
never logged onto the debian box). The samba shares live on an external USB
hard disk connected to the debian box (formatted as fat32).
For non (samba) related reason I

ActiveRecord::find or Enumerable::find
Does anyone know the difference in performance between an
ActiveRecord::find and Enumerable::find (or detect since ActiveRecord
redefines the find method) for a has_many association?
Here is an example:
I have a list that has 10 lines and I want to find the first blank line.
Which approach would be better?
list.lines.detect { |line| line.content == nil }

has_many :through a belongs_to relationship
I have users who belong to a group. I also have a room that belongs to
a group. I want to use a has_many through association to link the room
and the users as such:
class Room < ActiveRecord::Base
belongs_to :group
has_many :users, :through => :group
end
The SQL generated for the search is incorrect:
SELECT users.* FROM users INNER JOIN group ON users.group_id =
groups.id WHERE
