charset problem with smbmount
Hi!
I have a test file with all special characters of hungarian language on a
windows share: ??????????????????.txt
(I hope Your mailer wiill show them correctly :-))
When I use smbclient to connect to share, I see correct characters, I can
get the file to local disk and ls shows the correct name too.
When I try to mount with smbmount the closest result I produced was:
?I???AuUoO?U?????O.txt

no charset ver. 3.0.0beta3 on solaris
Hi all
This question came up several times in this list in the last couple of
weeks, but nobody seems to have found a solution... so I post this
again, hoping that anybody out there has the answer.
I compiled Samba 3.0.0beta3 on Solaris 9 with the following options:
--with-winbind --with-acl-support --with-included-popt --with-pam
Starting the daemon or doing testparm gives me always:

Missing charset ISO8859-1.so in 3.0.6?
I recently installed and built 3.0.06 on my Solaris 9 Ultra 5 station. When
I start either smbd or nmbd, the log files indicate a missing shared library
during initialization, but the daemons appear to be running anyway.
Specifically, the log says:

Error loading module '/usr/local/samba/lib/charset/ISO8859-1.so': ld.so.1:

However, we need to define the charset...

Charset disaster moving from 2.2.8 to 3.0.4
Hi all!
I'm REALLY depressed!
After moving from samba 2.2.8 to 3.0.4 I can not read my files.
All names are corrupted.
I used NO charset options in the original (2.2.8) smb.conf
(which means that all names are in cp850, doesn't it ?)
No I have installed 3.0.4, libiconv also.
But can not figure out what to set in smb.conf.
I use Solaris 8, LC_CTYPE=ru_RU.KOI8-R.
And windows XP/2000

2.0.6: HUP/charset/profiles/smbmount/logging
This is the list of problems I had with samba-2.0.6 so far. Can anyone
tell me if he can reproduce them and if he considers them as problems?
2.0.6 on linux 2.2.13 or 2.0.33
1)
sighup/log reopening doesn't always work: connections that are already
active keep logging to the old logs; logrotate rotates/zip the logs and
samba stops logging completely till restart.
2)
Localized chars.

Hi everyone,
I'm trying to use idmap_rid on an AIX 5.3 ML4 machine. Samba compiled
successfully using the IBM compiler (vac.C) version 6. The only
programs I supplied where db and libiconv.
I followed the instructions, and put nsswitch/WINBIND in /usr/lib/security,
and edited /usr/lib/security/methods.cfg.
When I start "winbindd -i", it coredumps with a Signal 11:

Possible problems with the git repository.
Howdy,
I just did a git clone for the latest syslinux and when I entered the
make command the build ended with an error.
I also had to back level my git installation because "git clone url"
doesn't seem to want to work any more yet it's what was on the web page.
Regards,
George...

Search with specified charset
I've seen a problem with searching in the Prayer webmail client that
turns out to be caused by Prayer insisting on a charset called
"ISO-8859-1" and Dovecot, using Solaris iconv, not recognising it (all
the Solaris 8 iconv modules appear to be "ISO8859-1" etc. or just "8859-1").
This isn't a problem in Linux:
% iconv --list | grep 8859.1/
8859_1//
