zoo: variable gets modified at making zoo object
I'm doing:
> alyL32007z <- zoo(alyL32007,alyL32007$time)
> range(time(alyL32007z))
[1] "2007-01-01 00:00:00 UTC" "2007-12-31 23:30:00 UTC"
But then, while the original variable is:
> summary(alyL32007$NEE_st)
Min. 1st Qu. Median Mean 3rd Qu. Max. NA's
-15.340 -1.615 -0.054 -0.814 0.750 8.965 11124

Date_Time detected as Duplicated (but they are not!)
I have a problem with duplicated date_time stamps that I do not see as
duplicated.
I read a file with observations taken every 30 minutes:

Problems creating a PNG file for a dendrogram: "Error in plot.window(...) : need finite 'xlim' values"
Has anyone successfully created a PNG file for a dendrogram?
I am able to successfully launch and view a dendrogram in Quartz. However, the dendrogram is quite large (too large to read on a computer screen), so I am trying to save it to a file (1000x4000 pixels) for viewing in other apps. However, whenever I try to initiate a PNG device, I get a "need finitite 'xlim' values"

summary() and range(): inconsistency?
I've found the following and I'm kind
of confused:
> summary(delme)
Min. 1st Qu. Median Mean 3rd Qu. Max.
1 2950 5699 5756 8572 11680
> range(delme)
[1] 1 11675
summary() and range() give different Max. value for the same
vector!

GlusterFS, move files, Samba ACL...
[ Received no feedback, i resend it... ]
A little strange things, but i'm hitting my head on the wall...
I needed to 'enlarge' my main filesystem (XFS backed-up), that contain my
main samba share and a brick for a GFS share; i've setup a new volume (for
the VM), formatted XFS, move all the file taking care to umount and stop GFS
(so, syncing the brick, not the GFS filesystem)

virt-resize: support to MBR logical partitions and some question
Hi,
I'm adding support to resizing logical partitions(patch is in progess).
But encounter an error when adding a logical partition in dest image:
virt-resize: libguestfs error: part_add: parted: /dev/sdb: Warning: The resulting partition is not properly aligned for best performance.
Error: Error informing the kernel about modifications to partition /dev/sdb5 -- Device or resource busy.

Why does this logon-script not work under Win9x ?
Hi,
i'm having a serious problem with the following logon-script.
It works under W2k, but not under W98, although W98 tells
it is running startup-script ..
First my smb.conf (only interesting parts) :
---snipp---
[global]
server string = Samba-PDC %v on %h
workgroup = WORKGROUP
encrypt passwords = yes
netbios name = 486dx66
domain master = Yes

No -b (bind) with SCP?
In man ssh:
-b bind_address
Specify the interface to transmit from on machines with
multiple
interfaces or aliased addresses.
For ssh, but also looked in SCP manpage, didn't find anything, anyone
know if this option will be supported in future versions of OpenSSH?
$ scp -b
scp: illegal option -- b
usage: scp [-pqrvBC46] [-F config] [-S program] [-P port]

Matching failure in merge()
Hi!
I've done a merging between 2 dataframes using merge():
delme <-
merge(miDUNS50peqB,Bnomscodmunicipis,by.x="POBLACION",by.y="NOMMUNI",all.x=T,sort=F)
After realizing some problems in the resulting dataset,
I've found that the problem was that, in some cases, there
was no match between the by.x and the by.y elements, despite the
fact that, apparently, such

Solved: [Fwd: Matching failure in merge()]
I've found where the problem was and a way to solve this problem:
One dataset was encoded (and read) as UTF-8
and the other one was encoded (en read) as latin3
In this case, even if at the terminal you see
the same characters, R states that the two
elements are not equal.
Don't know if this is the way it has to be,
or this is a bug.
Anyway, editing the second file (encoded as latin3)

Long to wide format without time variable
Hi all,
I am trying to convert a data set of physician death codings (each individual's cause of death is coded by multiple physicians) from long to wide format, but the "reshape" function doesn't seem to work because it requires a "time" variable to identify the sequence among the repeated observations within individuals. My data set has no order, and different

Sorting data from one column with strings
Hello,
I have tried to find this out some other way, but unsuccessful I have to
try this list.
I assume this should be quite simple.
I have a dataset with 4 columns, "Sample_no", "Species", "Nitrogen",
"Carbon" in csv format. In the species column I have many different
species with varying number of obs per species
Eg
"Sample_no"

what he wanted was to have a new data.frame with all the information
city<-data.frame(city="Barcelona",cod=1)
city<-rbind(city,data.frame(city="Madrid",cod=2))
