Hi R-listers, I am trying to do an ANOVA for the following scatterplot and received the following error: library(car) scatterplot(HSuccess ~ Veg, data = data.to.analyze, xlab = "Vegetation border (m)", ylab = "Hatching success (%)") anova(HSuccess ~ Veg, data=data.to.analyze) Error in UseMethod("anova") : no applicable

Q - scatterplot, plot function & trellis linear regressions???
Hi R-listers, Q1) What is the difference between the scatterplot and plot function? Q2) I am able to make a graph with the scatterplot function: scatterplot(DevelopIndex ~ Veg, + data = Turtle, + xlab = "Vegetation border (m)", + ylab = "Embryonic development index") And have been successful. But I do not know if the lines are for:

NaN - trouble fixing NaN
Hi R-listers, I am using the package plyr. I am just trying to get the hatching success mean of each nesting event and have typed in the following and received the below results: > tapply(HSuccess, Aeventexhumed, mean) A B C 0.2156265 0.1288559 NaN What can I do about NaN? I should be able to get a result for event C because I was able to

Error in eval(expr, envir, enclos) : object 'Rayos' not found???
Hi R-listers, I am trying to make a trellis boxplot with the HSuccess (y-axis) in each Rayos (beach sections) (x-axis), for each Aeventexhumed (A, B, C) - nesting event. I am not able to do so and keep receiving: Error in eval(expr, envir, enclos) : object 'Rayos' not found Please advise, Jean require(plyr) resp <- read.csv("ABC Arribada R File Dec 12 Jean

aov() usage
Hi R-listers, I am wondering if the function aov() in plyr is appropriate for two different types of tests: 1) > summary(aov(EDI ~ VegIndex, data=data.to.analyze)) AND 2) > summary(aov(HSuccess ~ VegIndex + Aeventexhumed + VegIndex:Aeventexhumed, data=data.to.analyze)) the later inclusive of an interaction of the two explanatory variables. This is for obtaining P value and F

How do I compare 47 GLM models with 1 to 5 interactions and unique combinations?
Hi R-listers, I have developed 47 GLM models with different combinations of interactions from 1 variable to 5 variables. I have manually made each model separately and put them into individual tables (organized by the number of variables) showing the AIC score. I want to compare all of these models. 1) What is the best way to compare various models with unique combinations and different number

Best method for comparing rectangles sections of beach
Hi R-listers, I am trying to compare sections of the beach separated from the HTL to the Veg (east to west), separated into indices (-5 to 30m), HTLIndex. Cross parallel (north to south) are major beach sections (Rayos 1, 2, 3, 4 and MNB). I am thinking to do an ANOVA for each independent rectangle of beach (not exactly but will be treated as). The HTL from (0-5m) in Rayo 1 is one rectangle of

Q - scatterplots
I was able to make a scatterplot but ... 1) what does the "86" mean? The "86" shows up on the graph as well. > scatterplot (Shells/TotalEggs ~ Sector, data = data.to.analyze) [1] "86" 2) Also how do you change the Y axis title? I don't want it to read Shells/TotalEggs, instead I would like it to read Average Hatching Rate (%). 3) What does this error mean?

Quantile loess smother?
Hello all, I wish to fit a loess smother to a plot of Y`X, but in predicting the 95% quantile. Something that will be a combination of what rq (package quantreg} does, with loess. Is there a function/method for doing this? GAM function in mgcv package
Hi R-users I am trying to use the GAM function of the mgcv package. But I am having problem trying to specify the k parameter. Although I managed to run some models by giving to the parameter some (random) value, and it is explained by Wood (2006) that it does not seem to "really" affect the final result, I would like to grasp better its meaning. I understand that is the

coolest startup?
OK, general question for the community -- what''s the coolest startup using Rails? I don''t think "37 Signals" is a fair answer. I''m curious as to what kind of other developments are happening. Are there a lot of startups using Rails in the first place? Or do most of you who are lucky enough to do Rails for a living (I''m coding Java, bleah) work in large

Polar graph of time and tide
I have been trying to visualize times of lowest tides, month by month. I have tide predictions with times either in unix time or a text format, and heights in feet or meters. I had been able to derive the clock times of each prediction. I would now like to graph this data with points showing heights as "r" and times as "theta", from 0000 to 2355. There is a seasonal

Using MuMIn - error message
Hello, I hope that you can bare with me. I am new to models, but I think I have a pretty godd understanding of how to run them now, including how to use AICc and Anova. The issue is that I have many factors that I wish to compare so doing each one at a time would take forever. I came across the MuMIn package and I was so excited, however I am getting an error message and i don't know why.

Newbie here. Tips on setting up 100 phones w anted.
>It will be about 100 phones at about 20 locations all within >about 4 miles of each other. Perhaps a more pressing question might be how you are going to backhaul Ethernet in a 4-mile radius. You can't run a Cat 5 cable more than 100 metres reliably, and using Ethernet repeaters every hundred metres or so isn't practical. You will need a fiber backbone or something like that. What

Coordinate systems for geostatistics in R
Hi, I read somewhere that when carrying out geostatistical analysis in R you should not use latitude and longitude...can anyone expand on this a little for me, and what would be the best coordinate system to use? I have my data in a geographic coordinate system, WGS84, decimal degrees....is this the wrong format for such analyses? I have also converted my data in the UTM projection and so have

Spatstat - coordinates in observation window
Dear R users, I wish to run spatial point pattern analysis (e.g. pair correlation function, mark correlation function) for which I need to create an observation window (window=owin) from which the spatial analysis is generated. The command I used to create this observation window as follows: X1<- ppp(x, y, window=owin(c(80.58,144.96),c(101.06,165.13)),
