Running system: SuSE 7.2 (kernel 2.2.4) & samba-3.0.0beta1. There is coexisting Win(Millennium) system at the server (reason: many win partitions MUST be directly available at the central unit under windows after rebooting to windows). People connect their laptops (with small HD and Win2k SP2) to central unit and samba offers shares with Linux accounts. However, there are many win

Dear All, I have a following query: - My initrd image is created using ext2 filesystem. - The filesystem type of / is specified as ext3 in /etc/fstab file. - I dont mount the real root during execution of linuxrc because I referred some documents saying that if you dont mount real root from linuxrc the kernel will mount it after linuxrc is finished. - The system boots up successfully, mount

extlinux reports "./extlinux: path /media/disk doesn't match device /dev/sda4"
Hello list, in a previous post I mentioned I had managed to make USB-Stick with 2048 byte sectors bootable. In fact I wiped out my Linux partitions bootrecord. This was with an old version of extlinux as still distributed by openSuSE. Interestingly enough the current version syslinux-3.61-pre2, spares my hard disk, but still seems to live under the impression it is the USB stick. The setup is

Win95 share going in and out of df under smbfs?
Is this a known problem? I've seen this problem both under 2.0.6 and 2.0.7, on my Debian Linux system (kernel 2.2.14): A Win95 share that I mounted under smbfs will show up as mounted in df, and even contain the correct Used/Available info. If I do an 'ls' on the mountpoint, I see no files. If I 'umount' the share, I get the 'not mounted' error, but then no longer

journal aborting and remounting /boot as ro
Hi, Apologies in advance for any breaches of netiquette, I couldn't find any guidelines about submission to this forum but I'd be grateful for your help on something. My /boot filesystem is being remounted shortly after start-up as read-only. I get the following messages... journal_bmap_Ra7a5f568: journal block not found at offset 12 on ide0(3,1) Aborting journal on device ide0(3,1)

Hi guys, My samba server stop to respond many times today even though I've upgraded the memory from 1Gb to 5Gb (it keeps eating my memory out). I've tried samba 3.0.32, 3.2.4 before, but no success. [PATCH] xfstests: unmount scratch mnt in test 307
So if you have a mount command that doesn''t use /etc/mtab then it will spit out a different device for the mounted device. So say we have SCRATCH_DEV_POOL="/dev/sda /dev/sdb /dev/sdc" we will turn this into SCRATCH_DEV="/dev/sda" SCRATCH_DEV_POOL="/dev/sdb /dev/sdc" and then when you mkfs this you do _scratch_mkfs $SCRATCH_DEV_POOL which turns into this

Automount configuration problem
I have a simple automount configuration problem. I've done two similar, clean, Custom installations of CentOS 5.0, on two similar, but not identical boxes. On my box, automount is working perfectly. On my daughter's box, it's not working. If I put the FC6 DVD into the drive in my box, I can see the contents of the DVD, without any problem. If I cat /etc/mtab in my box, I see this line:

Help With Installation to USB Stick
Recently, I was able to create a workable Centos 4.4 "Live USB" on my 1G Lexar Firefly pendrive using the steps in http://linux.web.psi.ch/livecd/usbdisk.html. At the moment, it is doing its job, so I probably won't focus too much more on it. One thing that is annoying, although doesn't cause a problem is that on powerdown and reboot, the cd rom drive ejects - of course, there

root fs mounts as ext2, others ext3
I have ext2 compiled in the kernel (so i can mount the initrd image), all other filesystems are modules. The initrd image contains aic7xxx, jbd, and ext3 modules. /etc/mtab reports the filesystem mounted ext3 /proc/mounts reports it mounted ext2 /proc/filesystems lists ext3 If I umount other partitions that are ext3 the module becomes 'unused'. The filesystem was created
