NRI or IDI for survival data - Hmisc package
Hi, I am trying to calculate net reclassification improvement (NRI) and Inegrated Discrimination Improvement (IDI) for a survival dataset to compare 2 risk models. It seems that the improveProb() in Hmisc package does this only for binary outcome, while rcorrp.cens() does take survival object, but doesn't output NRI or IDI. Can anyone suggest any other packages that can calculate NRI and IDI

Check whether externam URL is valid?
Hey, I have users entering URLs into my app, is there anyway in which I can check to see if the URLs actually point to something before saving the user input? Maybe a kind of ''ping''-action that returns true on success? (btw: does anyone of a tentative release date for Rails1.1? I''ve been slobbering all over my RailsRecipes book and I can''t wait! Also, Scott

Implementing step-wise linear regression
Dear R fans, I am trying to do step-wise linear regression using the F-test to decide which variables to admit. Ewout Steyerberg suggests using the F-test for this purpose. I first build a model using no variables using lm(y ~ 1) and then using one variable that is a strong predictor using lm(y ~ x). When I call var.test on these two models, I do not get a significant p-value—0.07. But a

Moving to Rails-1.1 from Rails-1.0
Hey I want to port my app (, which is still in early development) to Rails-1.1 from Rails-1.0. What''s the safest way to go about doing this? Can I do so without changing any of the stuff I''ve done so far? =] BTW...does anyone know where Scott Raymond''s Rails-1.1 write-up is? I''ve been reading a lot about it but I''ve been getting "page not

action.controller.domain instead of dmn/cntrlr/action ?
Hey, I want my users to be able to use the following notation: -- http://id.action.controller.domain.com/ instead of having to type in the standard Rails: -- http://domain.com/controller/action/id How can I do this? Is it even possible? If not, don''t you think this is something that the core team should have a look at? (PS. I''m using MySQL for backend and developed

New software based on libvirt
Hello, I'm introducing to you the decentralized cloud Cherrypop. Combining libvirt and LizardFS (as of now) it becomes a cloud completely without masters. Thus, any node is sufficient for the cloud to be up and therefore no wasted resources and no single point of failure. It's still pretty crude software but will work with some tinkering. Hope you try it and like it! For more

odd error messages coming from val.prob() {Design}
Hi, after upgrading my R install from 2.5 -> 2.6.1 and performing multiple iterations of update.packages(), I am getting an odd error when trying to plot a calibration curve from the val.prob() function in package Design. when running this function (which used to work) I get the following error message: Error in .C("lowess", x = as.double(xy$x[o]), as.double(xy$y[o]), n,

val.prob in the Design package - Calibrated Brier Score
Hello, I am using the val.prob function in the Design package. I understand how the Brier quadratic error score is calculated, but I do not know how the Brier score computed on the calibrated rather than raw predicted probabilities (B cal) is calculated. My question is: how are the calibrated probabilities calculated? Any explanation of this, or references to explanations of this, would be

Back returns "Warning: Page has Expired" ?!?!
Hey, I''ve found that certain browsers (IE and Ffx in particular) display a warning page whenever the user clicks on the ''back'' button after having just come from a page generated by a post. This makes perfect sense, it warns users about duplicate rows being entered etc. However! Is there anyway to gracefully redirect the user to a ''safe'' page say

Active Directory?
Can someone tell me if you can set Samba up as the PDC (Primary Domain Controller) for an Active Directory? I would like to replace Windows 2000 AD with Samba on Linux but I cannot find info on how to do this, so I am not sure if it is possible? Any further info or help on this is much appreciated.
